The winter solstice (冬至) is an important day in China. People eat dumplings on that day. Dumplings look like ears, so there’s a fun saying—people won’t get frozen (冻僵的) ears after eating some hot and delicious dumplings.
Sun Menglu is a 15-year-old girl. She is a very kind girl. Every year on the winter solstice, she gives dumplings to the street cleaners (清洁工) for free.

My name is Pingo. I am a two-year-old emperor penguin (帝企鹅). I live in Antarctica (南极洲) with other emperor penguins.
We have short legs and thick, round bodies. Our feathers are usually black and white. The thick feathers keep us warm in the cold and icy (冰冷的) weather.
We are very good at swimming. We use our wings (翅膀) to move fast in the water. We can stay in the water for a long time without (没有) getting tired. Fish and small sea animals are our favourite food. We catch food when we swim.
We spend our whole life in Antarctica. There we have very special ways to keep warm. Most of us live in big groups. We stand close together to keep warm.
