Watch the sky
Look at the clouds. Different kinds of clouds mean different weather. How the clouds move also means different weather. Usually, white and high clouds mean good weather. Dark and low clouds mean bad weather.
Look at the red sky. Your parents may tell you, “Red sky in the morning: don’t go out. Red sky at night: walk for a long time.” Well, this is quite right!
Watch the animals
Look at the birds. Usually, they fly very high in the sky. And this means good weather. Sometimes, they fly very low in the sky. And this means bad weather. The birds are also very quiet before it rains.

Do you know the book The Rough Patch (《走出荒园》) It is a nice picture book by the US writer Brian Lies. Kids love it because of the interesting story and beautiful pictures in it. So what is it about
Evan, a fox, lived with his dog, Leo. He liked to do everything with his dog. But their favourite thing was working happily in Evan’s garden. In the garden, plants grew big and beautiful. But one day, Evan’s dog died. Evan was very sad because he lost his best friend, Leo. Every time he went to his garden, he thought of Leo. Evan felt upset and angry, so he destroyed(摧毁) his garden.
But few plants quietly began to grow. One day, Evan found a small pumpkin vine (南瓜藤) in his garden. He became happy again and began to look after it. Autumn came and there was a very big pumpkin on the vine. Evan took his big pumpkin to the market. He could get a gift because of his big pumpkin—10 dollars (美元) or a baby dog. Evan felt excited and he chose the soft baby dog without a second thought.
He carried the dog home and when he walked into the garden and watched the dog sniff (嗅) the vines, Evan knew the truth. It’s natural to feel sad after loss, but time can fix our broken hearts. New joy and love will come if we open our hearts.
