The results of the artificial intelligence (AI) boom have found fertile ground in modern agriculture, from application systems to on-the-go machine operation adjustments. The industrial revolution of AI is promoting the rapid development of agriculture,as equipment makers create “smarter” machinery equipped with increasing amounts of background data and digital circuitry (电路) patterned after the human brain.
In a recent interview about the use of AI in production agriculture,John Deere's President of Lifecycle Solutions,Justin Rose, said AI is essential to his company's goal of helping farmers be more profitable and sustainable while using fewer resources: less land, chemicals and labor.
Rose points to Deere's See & Spray technology and its use of AI to boost productivity through improved crop protection chemical use.“Traditional sprayers treat entire fields with herbicides, but our system uses 36 cameras and advanced machine learning to identify and spray only the weeds—while moving at 12-15 mph, covering 3 football field lengths per minute,” he says.He notes the system uses 70% less chemical than traditional application practices for significant improvements in profitability, sustainability and efficiency.
The examples of AI in agriculture are many, with ranks growing rapidly each year, but before farmers can benefit from these developments, they must first become familiar with the technology and how to operate it,stall settings, plan their season around the equipment and make in-season adjustments.AI is helping with this challenge.Farmers don't have endless opportunities to get everything right, but with the help of AI,we can turn a farm career's 40 harvests into 40,000 opportunities to learn and optimize (优化).
Rose says the AI race has just begun.“This is the slowest it's ever going to go,and we're all going to have to raise our game and move more quickly all the time,” he explains. That involves those who design and program AI applications, those who depend upon them, and those who sell and service them.

Fresh peas often take so long to reach grocery stores that they usually lose their original flavor and texture (质地) when you eat them.Frozen peas, which are frozen within hours of being picked, keep their sweetness and crispness, not to mention their bright color.
While people in cold climates have been preserving food by freezing for longer than we probably can record,in the early 20th century,processed-food companies had a lot to learn when it came to making defrosted (解冻的) fish and other foodstuffs delicious.Frozen food always took on a depressingly mushy texture (糊状质地).
The idea of making food eatable for the future by freezing had been appealing for quite some time.Sir Francis Bacon, the famous statesman who is behind what we now call the scientific method—in which an observation leads to a question that can be tested—conducted a food-freezing experiment in 1626.Bacon noticed food could be stored longer in winter,so he had a chicken's body stuffed with snow to see if it would be well preserved. His death prohibited him from continuing the experiment, but the concept had legs.
A turning point in the frozen food industry's history came when Clarence Birdseye,a naturalist, lived in Labrador from 1912 to 1915.There he learned about the customs of the Inuit, who would go ice fishing and then let their catch immediately freeze in the very cold air. When this frozen fish, which was left out in the cold, was eventually cooked,it tasted fresh and delicious. He applied the same method to cabbages, and it worked wonderfully.
Later,Birdseye launched a series of inventions using the idea of quick freezing. However, frozen food didn't find its feet then.Large numbers of Americans first tasted frozen food in the 1940s,during World War Ⅱ,when there was a shortage of canned goods.Even more significant was the fact that while men were off fighting, women took jobs outside the home, causing them to seek faster ways to fix meals.
It took trial and error to discover the foods that froze well and to improve refrigeration in transportation systems,in stores, and in people's homes.
5.What challenge did processed-food companies face in the early 20th century
A.To promote sales of frozen products.
B.To harvest ripe vegetables in a short time.
C.To keep the original color of frozen products.
D.To preserve the flavor and texture of defrosted food.
6.What was the purpose of Sir Francis Bacon's experiment in 1626
A.To study the properties of snow.
B.To test food preservation by freezing.
C.To find the best way of preserving food.
D.To improve a traditional scientific method.
7.What did Clarence Birdseye learn from the Inuit
A.Cooking skills mattered a lot to flavor.
B.Ice fishing could be a health-giving activity.
C.Quick freezing helped keep food's flavor and freshness.
D.Certain frozen products offered superior taste and quality.
8.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.The Challenges and Misunderstandings of Frozen Food
B.Frozen Food:A Good Alternative to Fresh Food
C.The History and Development of Frozen Food
D.Clarence Birdseye: A Pioneer of Frozen Food

You may wonder what exactly the professional athletes eat for breakfast to be able to perform impressive physical achievements. 1 Brittany Dunn,a chef for the Philadelphia Eagles, has found that what professional athletes eat varies widely among athletes and the sports they play.
“I have worked with an athlete who prefers two boiled eggs with peanut butter toast and a coffee,an athlete who prefers an acai bowl and sauteed veggies (炒蔬菜),and an athlete who orders two breakfast sandwiches,” she said.“ 2 Besides, the amount of time between eating and the following training session, body composition and sport also matter.”
3 She said,“Game day is not the day to try new foods.Additionally, having a consistent breakfast routine can help professional athletes feel more mentally prepared for the day ahead.”
As for general caloric needs, professional athletes need to consume more than the average person given the amount of energy they're using in their respective sports, and to help with recovery.Dunn said she has worked with an athlete who required a 1,000-calorie recovery fruit juice post-training,plus three to four additional meals throughout the day.
“We really need to put a lot of fuel into athletes,so we might give them things like juice or even candy to make them feel more hungry,” said Dr.Marc Bubbs,a nutritionist of Canada Basketball Team. 4
The more intense your exercise, the greater your reliance on carbohydrates (碳水化合物). 5 The male athletes Bubbs has worked with need about 4,000 calories a day while the general recommendation for the average person is around 2,000 calories per day.
A.The short answer:it depends.
B.Women would probably require fewer calories.
C.He was also a consultant for a group of Olympic athletes.
D.Therefore, professional athletes simply need more carbohydrates.
E.A balanced breakfast typically includes protein, fiber and nutrients.
F.In her experience, most athletes eat the same breakfast before every competition.
G.The characteristics of athletes' breakfasts are affected by personal preferences and diets.题型组合练(二十五)
