“Shí éí Nizhoni yinishye,” 19-year-old Nizhoni Tso says in a video online, pointing to the matching written words. “My name is Nizhoni.” She isn’t following the latest dance trend. Instead, she’s leading a language lesson. With a calm and steady voice, she teaches her followers how to introduce themselves in Navajo, a language that the United Nations has classified as endangered.
Nizhoni grew up in the Navajo Nation, hearing the language from her grandparents. But, like many in her generation, she didn’t speak it fluently. “I understood it, but I couldn’t form the sentences to talk back,” she remembers. “It felt like a part of me was missing, like I was holding a book I couldn’t read.”
That feeling led to Nizhoni’s decision to learn Navajo herself. And she decided to record the entire process online, hoping to find a way to push herself and maybe connect with others on the journey. Her first videos were nervous, showing her practicing basic words. However, the community response was immediate and huge. Her followers grew into the tens of thousands, from other Navajo youth to non-native people attracted by the language. Besides, comments poured in from elders, offering encouragement and sometimes gently correcting her pronunciation. This online classroom became her most powerful teacher.
Her work has also resulted in a movement. Dozens of other young Navajo people have started their own language-focused social media accounts, creating an online web of learners and teachers. This is important for a language that has fewer fluent speakers each year, as the elder generation passes away.
The influence goes beyond the online world. Nizhoni now volunteers to teach beginner classes at her local community center, where she has students of all ages. Her grandmother, who once spoke to a child who couldn’t fully answer back, now attends every class, smiling with pride. “To hear my granddaughter teach our language... it’s a comfort,” her grandmother says. “It mends a broken connection.”
4. What is the challenge faced by Navajo
A.It is in danger of dying out.
B.It fails to attract young people.
C.It is difficult to pronounce correctly.
D.It is mainly spoken in traditional families.
5. Why did Nizhoni start posting videos online
A.To become a social media star.
B.To promote the Navajo language.
C.To offer support to Navajo learners.
D.To encourage herself to stick to her decision.
6. How has Nizhoni’s work affected Navajo
A.Navajo is no longer endangered.
B.The number of Navajo learners is on the rise.
C.Navajo gains worldwide popularity online.
D.More schools start adding Navajo to their curriculum.
7. What do the underlined words “mends a broken connection” in paragraph 5 refer to
A.Repairing a family relationship.
B.Bridging a generational language gap.
C.Solving an Internet connectivity problem.
D.Connecting Navajo with other languages.

In recent years, Europe has experienced a rising frequency of extreme heat waves. According to the European Environment Agency, these weather events are becoming not only more common but also more serious. Many temperature records have been broken, and the health risks have worsened, especially for weak populations like the elderly and young children.
But why are these heat waves happening so regularly The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate (气候) Change (IPCC) reported that the warming air, a direct result of human caused climate change, is making heat waves more likely and more serious. This is because the hotter air can hold more water, which fuels weather extremes.
The results of heat waves go beyond discomfort and health risks. A report by the European Forest Fire Information System noted a great increase in wildfires during periods of extreme heat, which led to evacuations (撤离) and lots of property-damage. The science is simple: High temperatures and dry conditions create a perfect environment for fires to start and spread quickly. Furthermore, these fires not only destroy local ecosystems but also produce lots of carbon dioxide, which further worsens climate change.
Faced with this challenge, Europe is exploring a series of methods to deal with the influence of extreme heat and prevent wildfires. One way is the use of satellite technology and AI to watch and check the areas at risk of wildfires. This technology can provide early warnings, enabling quicker responses to wildfires.
There are also policies about approaching climate change, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions (排放). And new building rules that promote heat-resistant materials and urban planning that includes more green spaces are being considered to make cities better prepared for heat waves. What’s more, education plays a great role, which can equip young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to take part in climate action.
8. What is the direct cause of the increasing heat waves in Europe
A.Increasing wildfires.
B.The reduction of forests.
C.Human-caused climate change.
D.Record-breaking high temperatures.
9. Why is the report mentioned in paragraph 3
A.To warn people about the danger of wildfires.
B.To prove heat waves add to the risk of wildfires.
C.To call on the public to protect the environment.
D.To stress the importance of early wildfire warnings.
10. What is Europe’s attitude towards heat waves
A.Responsible and active.
B.Concerned and anxious.
C.Doubtful and frightened.
D.Uncaring and relaxed.
11. What is a suitable title for the text
A.Heat Waves Sweep Across Europe
B.Europe Battles Against Natural Disasters
C.How to Survive Extreme Weather Conditions
D.How Technology Prevents Wildfires from Happening

Research often points to exercise as a good way to improve mental health, but a recent study from the University of Georgia suggests that it’s not just physical movement that affects mental health. It’s how, where and why you exercise that makes the difference.
“In previous (以前的) research, physical-activity research has focused on how long someone exercises for or how many calories are burned,” said Patrick O’Connor, co-author of the study. “The amount of exercise has been the main way researchers have tried to understand how physical activity might influence mental health, while often ignoring whether those minutes were spent exercising with a friend or as part of a game.”
Many studies found that people who take part in regular leisure-time physical activity, like going for a run, taking a yoga class or biking for fun, tend to report lower levels of anxiety. But while leisure-time physical activity offers better mental health outcomes, these benefits may vary greatly depending on the environment of the activity, according to the researchers.
“For example, if a soccer player runs down the field and kicks the game-winning ball, their mental health is fantastic,” O’Connor said. “In contrast, if you do the exact same exercise but miss the goal and people are blaming (责备) you, you likely feel very differently.”
Many studies also showed that adopting regular exercise routines improved mental health, especially for individuals with existing mental health disorders. However, these studies were typically based on similar samples, so the results aren’t probably suitable for more diverse groups. “If we’re trying to help people’s mental health through exercise, then not only do we need to think about the amount and the mode, we also need to ask: What is the context (背景) ” O’Connor said.
For O’Connor, the key point is clear. It’s not just movement that matters. It’s the meaning, the context and the experience of the activity that determine the influence of exercise on mental health.
12. What has been largely overlooked in previous research
A.The length and type of exercise.
B.The social environment of physical activity.
C.The number of calories burned during exercise.
D.The physical health outcomes of regular exercise.
13. What can we learn from the soccer player example
A.Winning ensures mental health benefits.
B.Playing football can improve mental health.
C.Blame from others leads to bad mental health.
D.Context matters in how exercise affects mental health.
14. What does O’Connor suggest scientists do
A.Avoid studying people with mental health disorders.
B.Focus more on the amount of exercise in future studies.
C.Pay attention to the context of exercise in their research.
D.Prove what is the real effect of exercise on mental health.
15. Which situation best matches the “context effect” described in the text
A.Lily buys lighter running shoes and runs faster.
B.Ben sleeps nine hours the night after swimming.
C.Mary loses 2 kg after jogging 5 km every day for a month.
D.Tom feels great cycling with friends but bored when cycling alone.

The dog, Shelby, found herself in an extremely dangerous situation on a cliff face (悬崖) in southwest Victoria. She was left trembling on a tiny dirt ledge (岩架), an alarming 24 meters above the sharp rocks and surfy ocean below. The accident happened on the afternoon of July 23rd when she suddenly slipped on her feet on a familiar walking path in Portland.
Her owners, the Dean family from Cape Nelson, were filled with fear the moment they heard the terrifying bark of Shelby coming from the edge. “We looked over and our hearts sank,” said Kim Dean. “We were just hoping she wouldn’t move since the ledge she was on was so small. I couldn’t even begin to imagine how far she would fall if she slipped. Her barking was unmistakably a cry for help.” Their hands trembled as they dialed for emergency help, each second seeming unbearably long. Their worry grew as the sky began to darken, knowing time was running out and conditions on the cliff face would only become more dangerous.
Fortunately, a call for help brought the State Emergency Service (SES) and local fire rescue workers to the scene. As dusk settled, the rescuers worked quickly but carefully, setting up their equipment as the Dean family and a small group of concerned onlookers watched tensely. A volunteer was carefully lowered down the darkening cliff face. Shelby stayed completely still, her eyes wide with fear, as if she knew any movement could make the situation worse. Finally, the rescuer managed to securely grasp her collar and pull her into the safety of his arms.
Mrs Dean recalled that the family, who had lovingly adopted Shelby from an animal shelter three years ago, were deeply shaken by the incident. “We were so thankful to the SES. To us, Shelby is not just a dog. She’s family, and they saved her life,” Mrs Dean said, her voice filled with emotion.

An Earthquake Drill
Last Friday, our school held an earthquake drill. All teachers and students took part in it.
When the alarm rang, we hid under desks quickly to stay safe. Soon we lined up and walked downstairs in order to the playground. After gathering, our head teacher explained safety knowledge.
The drill offered us a chance to learn self-rescue skills. It helps us stay calm and act properly when real danger comes.
47.读后续写范文
After the rescue, Shelby was safely returned home. Covered with dirt and tired out, Shelby trembled continuously and refused to leave her owners’ sides. The Deans checked her body carefully and were relieved to find no serious injuries. They fed Shelby warm food and wrapped her in a soft blanket. The whole family stayed with her all night, comforting the frightened dog. They also expressed sincere thanks to all the rescue workers.
Weeks later, Shelby gradually got back her liveliness. She could run and play around the house again. However, she dared not walk close to the cliff path any longer. The family chose safer routes during daily walks. This unforgettable experience reminded them to keep a close eye on Shelby outdoors. They felt lucky to have their family member safe and treasured every moment spent with Shelby.
