Astrid Poghosyan, a 28yearold Armenian violinist, now working as a helper to the president of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, has achieved her dream as a musician.
This summer, she has been busy making preparations for a series of inperson and online music events and cultural exchange programs, including a music festival in Shanghai and a livestreamed (直播的) international violin competition. Poghosyan said she always puts all her energy into the projects in which she is involved, whether they are offline or online events, as she believes that every little effort will help her realize her musicrelated dreams.
Having studied and worked in China for 12 years, Poghosyan has now become a real China hand. Such a multicultural background has certainly helped her excel at her current job. “Poghosyan plays a very special role in our orchestra,” said Zhou Ping, president of the orchestra.” She has lived in China for long and loves the Chinese culture, and she knows how to use the advantage of a multicultural background in her work.”
For Poghosyan, the life she now leads is quite different from when she first came to China in 2009 to study violin at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Then just 16, Poghosyan couldn’t speak a word of Chinese. “And my highschoollevel English wasn’t of much help at that time,” she said. “So I decided to learn Chinese to solve the communication problem.”
As she gradually immersed (沉浸) herself in the Chinese language and culture, she also started to make Chinese friends and explore the exciting city life of Shanghai. “Since I first came to Shanghai, I have always been impressed by the kindness and friendliness of the people here,” she said, “Their smiles have made me feel the warmth of the city.”

A.It can solve the communication problem.
B.It enables her to prepare for online music events.
C.It helps her to achieve her dream as an assistant.
D.It has contributed to her outstanding performance at work.
5. How does Zhou Ping feel about Poghosyan’s performance

Imagine that you are in a crowded place. You do not notice, but someone is watching you and learns your iPhone password(密码). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken from you.
Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.
Apple says the feature adds extra security for users. It addresses a drawback that thieves have used to lock device owners out of their Apple accounts, delete their photos and other files from their iCloud, and take money from their bank accounts.
SDP keeps track of a user’s “familiar locations”, such as their home or workplace. It also reduces the importance of passwords. Instead, it favors “biometric”(生物识别的)features such as faces or fingerprints, which are a lot harder to copy.
If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner. The new feature does not let someone use the password or any other backup method.
Another part of the new feature is designed to slow down thieves trying to change security settings. For example, if someone tries to sign out of an Apple ID account, change the password or reset the phone in an unfamiliar location, they will have to authenticate(证实)by using Face ID or Touch ID, wait an hour, and then do a second facial or fingerprint scan.
Changing an Apple ID password, updating Apple ID security settings, adding or removing Face or Touch ID, and turning off the Find My device feature or Stolen Device Protection also will lead to this feature.
8. What is the function of paragraph 1
A.To set a phonestealing scene.
B.To introduce the following text.
C.To remind readers to be cautious.
D.To explain how password theft directly causes device loss.
9. What can SDP do to add security for users
A.Stop iCloud files from being deleted.
B.Make it less likely to enter the phone.
C.Secure Apple accounts with remote locking.
D.Prevent thieves from accessing bank accounts.
10. What does SDP require for resetting a stolen iPhone
A.Previous passwords.
B.A new security setting.
C.An Apple ID account.
D.Identity recognition.
11. What does the passage mainly talk about
A.iPhone’s antitheft measure.
B.Apple ID security settings.
C.Usage of biometric features.
D.Apple’s iOS operating system.

American families don’t save money like they used to. In 2018 the personal saving rate was somewhere around 7%, which is well below the rate of a few decades ago.
There are a lot of potential explanations for this. Wage growth has slowed while necessities such as housing and medical care have grown more expensive. The rise of easy credit has made overspending easier than ever. And the number of people who make a budget is decreasing.
Now, a team of U.S. and Canadian economists have proposed a new explanation for the declining savings rate, one rooted in individual psychology. At its heart lies a simple observation: Spending is a lot more visible than not spending. Humans are social creatures, and we have a tendency to evaluate our own standing in life relative to how our friends and neighbors are doing. We want to keep up with the Joneses, and stay ahead of the Smiths. Because of this, when we see other people spending money we have a tendency to believe that we can — or should — be spending too. Nowadays, changes in the media landscape have made other people’s spending more visible than ever. That, in turn, is making all of us spend even more — and save even less.
David Hirshleifer, one of the economists, said that “it’s easy to think that you’re saving enough because you are not throwing luxury parties or taking expensive journeys the way some people you know are.” But, he warned, “those journeys and parties may not really be typical of your acquaintances — they just stand out in memory.”
The economists imply that finding ways to make nonspending more visible might help individuals develop more realistic views of overall spending and saving behavior. “Make a special effort to notice when your friends are careful with money, such as holding on to their 15yearold car,” Hirshleifer said.
12. Which of the following is a potential explanation for the low saving rate in America
A.The reduction in the income.
B.The easy access to money.
C.The growing desire for housing.
D.The difficulty in sticking to a budget.
13. The “individual psychology” mentioned in paragraph 3 refers to a tendency to ______.
A.show off wealth
B.connect with others
C.compare oneself to others
D.adapt oneself to social change
14. What is the warning of David Hirshleifer
A.It is improper to copy others’ spending habits.
B.It is unwise to spend more than one can afford.
C.One may spend too much on journeys and parties.
D.One may have misunderstanding of others’ spending habits.
15. What do the economists suggest people do
A.Make good use of money.
B.Save as much money as possible.
C.Pay attention to nonspending behavior.
D.Change overall spending and saving behavior.
二、七选五
Have you ever noticed how some people can effortlessly talk to anyone they meet, no matter how different their backgrounds are Or have you seen that one person who always offends someone, no matter what the topic of conversation is These two scenes show how we can differ in our abilities to interact, get along with, and relate to others around us. 16____
After years of academic research and development, this social competency is now commonly referred to as “social intelligence”. Do you want to improve your social intelligence Here are great ideas with which to get started.
Listen well and pay attention
Practice active listening so that you can fully engage and communicate with others. 17____ It is natural to want to respond to that text message that pops up on your phone immediately, even when you’re in the middle of a facetoface conversation. Give people your full attention when speaking with them. 18____
Watch out for body language
19____ Even if they aren’t saying so, their feelings are truly revealed. Try to tune in to what the other person is saying “physically”. In the same way, be aware of your own body language and how you are presenting yourself. If you slouch and appear physically uninterested during a conversation, it may make the speakers lose confidence in what they are saying, resulting in a negative interaction.
Show that you care
If you sense that someone is upset, or if someone tells you they are going through some difficulties, show them you truly care. 20____
A.Life is often fast paced, with many digital distractions.
B.Often, people’s gestures will tell us a great deal about how they are feeling.
C.Sharing other people’s feelings can help you connect at a more meaningful level.
D.People like to feel heard, and it will help you develop worthwhile relationships.
E.The speaker fails to deliver a clear and objective message during his presentation.
F.Engaging in a meaningful conversation can reduce loneliness and help reconnect with others.
G.In the same way that we vary in traditional academic competencies, we can vary in how socially competent we are.
