Machu Picchu Has New Routes for 2024
With new tour routes starting from 1 June 2024, travelers visiting Machu Picchu can expect a more personalized experience.

Ideal for those who prefer a shorter walk, this route offers wide views from the upper terrace but doesn’t include the city area of Machu Picchu. It will take you to the Inca Bridge, where you can observe the Vilcanota River. It’s a short, scenic walk with historical significance, perfect for a relaxed morning.

This is the classic route that lets you snap that iconic photo from the upper terrace with great views, and then walk through the city area of Machu Picchu. You’ll pass by the main square and reach the Sacred Rock.
Wayna Picchu Mountain route
This route is for the adventurous at heart. Starting from the lower part of Machu Picchu, you’ll visit the Temple of the Sun, the Fountain Sector and the Inca’s house. The highlight is climbing Wayna Picchu, which involves steep, narrow stairs and offers open views. It’s not for the chickenhearted but worth every step.

The scene in the stands at Roland Garros’s Court Philippe — Chatrier was dotted with red banners (横幅标语), adding a glow (光辉) to the already orangey air spreading the red clay court (红土网球场).
There were hundreds of Chinese waving flags to support Qinwen Zheng, 21, who would soon take gold by defeating Croatia’s Donna Vedic in the women’s singles tennis final.
As she lay down on the dirt, eyes skyward and fists extended into (伸向) the Paris haze (雾霾), the win’s gravity seemed to register: This was China’s firstever Olympic gold medal in this sport. When talking about the Olympics, Zheng said, “I treated the Games differently — the emotion, the fight, the mentality. If you asked me to stay three more hours to fight, I could do it.”
Born in 2002, Zheng started playing tennis at age seven. At age eight, she moved alone for better coaching. Since adolescence, she has deeply admired Chinese athletes, such as the tennis star Li Na, who joined in the 2008 Beijing Games, and the runner Liu Xiang, who won gold at the 2004 Athens Games.
“It was really tough,” Zheng said, looking back at those early days. “My mom used to come visit on weekends. When she left, I would hold her leg and cry. After 13, she decided to stay with me fulltime to let me have better growth and care. After that, it got easier. And we moved to Europe when I was 17.” In Paris, Zheng performed exceptionally well on her road to gold, including toppling (击败) world number one Iga Swiatek. “With Iga, I was clear,” Zheng said. “I know why I lost to her before. I played rushed, made too many unforced errors, and wanted to hit faster than her. I wanted to prove my power. But in these Games, I didn’t think like this.”
Zheng is conscious (有意识的), too, of the effects that her milestone achievement in Paris will have. As we wrapped up our chat, she said softly, “I was reading comments last night and some of them really make me feel proud. If you watch my tennis and it brings you some extra strength in your life, that will make me happy.”
4. According to the passage, what is TRUE about Qinwen Zheng

In the rushing modern society, it can be all too easy to skip(不吃) a meal or two.You might even do it on purpose. A new study suggests going without one of the standard three meals a day might have a serious downside.
24,000 people participated (参加) in the study. Around 30 percent of the participants often had fewer than three meals a day. According to the data (数据), those who were younger, male, with less of an education and a lower family income, were more likely to skip meals. Mealskipping was also more common among those who smoked more, drank more, ate less healthy food, had more snacks, and took in less energy overall.
Compared with participants eating three meals per day, the risk for participants eating one meal per day was 30% higher for allcause death, and 83% higher for cardiovascular(心血管的) disease(CVD) death. Those who ate two meals a day had a 7% increased risk of allcause death and a 10% increased risk of cardiovascular death.
The CVD death rate of the participants who skipped breakfast was40% higher compared with those who did not. The allcause death risk was 12% higher for skipping lunch and 16% higher for skipping dinner compared with those who did not. Skipping breakfast was connected with a greater risk of dying from CVD, while skipping lunch or dinner was connected with a greater risk of allcause death, including a rise in CVD risk.
There was even a problem for those who ate all three meals but had them too close together. Eating two neighbouring meals within 4.5 hours of each other was also shown to be connected with increased allcause death risk. While the study seems to make messages difficult that suggest intermittent fasting (间歇性禁食) could be good for you, the data stresses the importance of regular refueling stops for the body.
8. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.Who would skip meals.
B.How the research is done.
C.Why people skip meals.
D.What the course of the study is.
9. How is mealskipping connected with diseases

Teens with dominant (占主导地位的) friends are at higher risk for mental health problems, according to a new research republished from The Conversation.
Dominant friends often control decisionmaking power. They can also control others’ behavior, like by making the junior friend go to a party they don’t want to attend.
Friendships are extremely important relationships for teens, but are they always a positive influence Some psychology researchers were interested in the potential psychological results of having dominant friends. They predicted (预测) that being part of this kind of friendship might make teenagers feel useless or anxious.
To investigate it, 388 teenagers were surveyed at U. S. high schools five times across one year. Each time, teen participants were asked to answer questions about their close friends’ dominating behaviors: Do they make all the decisions Do they always get their way
Consistent with researchers’ predictions before, they found that when teenagers felt powerless in their close friendships — like their friends always made the decision — they experienced lower selfvalue and more symptoms (症状) of depression or anxiety.
Although some teens might be OK going with the flow and letting their friends take the control, the study found some of the first evidence that this kind of unequal relationship can be psychologically harmful. Healthy friendships should offer both partners opportunities to have a say and make decisions.
The findings suggest that it’s important to teach teens how to form healthy, fair friendships. One friend shouldn’t always feel bossed around or powerless. Also, teenagers may benefit from receiving help in developing effective communication tools for asserting (坚持主张) their wants and needs to their close friends.
12. Which kind of person below is probably a dominant friend
A.One who knows how to make decisions.
B.One who is willing to respect friends’ needs.
C.One who always asks friends to buy food for him.
D.One who attends the party his friend doesn’t want to.
13. How might most teens with dominant friends feel
A.Lonely.
B.Selfrespected.
C.Positive.
D.Valueless.
14. Based on the findings, what is important in forming healthy friendships for teenagers
A.Allowing one friend to always make the decisions.
B.Ensuring that one friend always feels powerless.
C.Having friendships where one partner feels bossed around.
D.Having equal chances to express their opinions and make decisions.
15. What might the researchers suggest teens with dominant friends doing
A.Expressing their own needs firmly.
B.Taking back control of the relationship.
C.Letting dominant friends take the control.
D.Ending the friendship with dominant friends.
