Welcome to Easter Island. I'm Jenny, your guide.
There are nearly l,000 moai statues on the island. Today, we are going to see some of them. The largest moai statue is about 22 metres tall! On average, these statues are about four metres tall, and weigh around 14 tons, as heavy as eight cars!
The big heads of the statues look special, with a large nose and long ears. But did you know the statues have got bodies, too They're under the ground! Why and how did people build the statues about 1,000 years ago Let's start our trip of discovery!

Guide: It is said that they were made on the mountain. Then, the ancient people moved
them to the coast.
Paul: I can't believe it! They are so big and heavy!
Jane: I think it's possible. There must be a way.
Guide: Yes, there are many ideas. According to some scientists, the statues were moved
on round wood.
Paul: Yes, round wood works like a wheel!
Jane: I'm not sure. There are no big trees on the island!
Guide: Some local people say the statues “walked” to the coast.
Paul: Walked I don't think that's true!
Jane: That's impossible!
Guide: Researchers found that the bottoms of the statues are not flat. This gave them an
idea. They built such a statue and pulled it with ropes. Guess what The statue
moved down the hill step by step with the researchers!
Paul: Oh, I get it! Ancient people were so clever!
Jane: I don't think so. That can't be the truth.
Guide: I'm not sure whether it's the truth. But people will never stop exploring.
