Yang Liwei was born on 21 June 1965 in Suizhong, Liaoning. His dream was to fly in space. To realise his dream, he joined the army and became a pilot. Later, he trained very hard to be an astronaut. He studied many new subjects and practised again and again for the space mission. On 15 October 2003, he flew into space on Shenzhou V and became the first Chinese astronaut who went to space. He is a hero because he is brave, hard-working and never gives up. He has helped realise China’s space dream and encouraged many young people to work hard for the future.
