Did you hear about “Survival Holidays”? “Survival Holidays” is for children to go into the lonely place for exciting activities. Now about 1,100 companies are asked to take only children into the great outdoors.
The reason why people like “Survival Holidays” is that they think being close to nature is good for children. Many children in big cities spend much time watching TV and playing computer games. “Survival Holidays” gives them an important change.
Is “Survival Holidays” a wonderful idea? Maybe it is. Children need more free time to play. Parents leave them on their own without disturbing them. Parents always care too much about their children. They like to see their children being busy with activities that are controlled (控制) by them, but children don’t know what to do when they are in danger. Even small danger like getting their feet wet or falling down seems very terrible to them.
Many people think the survival activities are good for children. Even years later, they will still remember what they have learnt. Some have learnt to stay calm in different situations. Some have learnt how to keep safe. Others have learnt how to work in a team. All these skills will help them a lot in their lives.
53. What is “Survival Holidays” for?

I wanted to visit the Great Wall for a long time. So when the chance finally came in March, I was so happy.
The Great Wall is 21,196 kilometres long. There are several parts. I decided to visit Mutianyu (慕田峪) because it is quieter than Badaling, the most popular part.
It took me two hours to travel from my hotel to Mutianyu. As soon as I got out of the cable car, I rushed to the nearest wall to look far into the distance (远方). It was so wonderful. The ancient stone wall snaked along the mountains.
I went north to the furthest (最远的) point at Mutianyu. I stopped every few hundred metres to enjoy the beautiful view. It was really a difficult climb. I had to lift my legs up high to climb its large steps. But when I got to the top, the view caught my eye.
It took me almost four hours to get to the end of the wall. When I got there, I saw many tired travelers. But they all enjoyed the view and took photos.
The Great Wall is truly a must-see place on the earth. I’m glad I visited it!

Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua, and I’m glad to share my unforgettable spring break experience with you.
During the spring break, I climbed Huangshan with my parents. We set off early in the morning. We saw green pines and amazing strange rocks all the way and took many photos. The mountain was too high, so we felt extremely tired and chose to take the cable car to reach the top. Later we put up a tent, spread sleeping bags and stayed overnight to watch the fantastic sunrise. The view was really breathtaking.
Though the whole trip was tiring, I enjoyed it deeply. This trip let me get close to nature and relieved my study pressure. It was a precious memory I will never forget.
