Possible student versions:
Communication brings us closer.
Last term, my best friend got angry with me because I forgot our plan to study together. We didn't talk for days. Then, I wrote her a note and said sorry. I shared my true feelings and told her that I didn't want to lose a friend like her. Later, she came to me and said she missed me, too. We became good friends again
This experience taught me that talking openly can solve problems. True friendship grows when we share our true feelings.
(84 words)
Communication brings us closer. Once, my classmate and I had a serious argument while working on a science project. We had different ideas and neither of us wanted to give in. The situation became very heavy. To solve this, I invited him to a quiet place to talk. I listened to his reasons carefully and then explained my thoughts clearly. Surprisingly, we found a much better way by sharing our ideas together.
This experience taught me that communication isn't just about speaking, but also about listening to others. Now, our friendship is stronger than ever because we know how to talk through problems.
(99 words)
Communication brings us closer. Last month, I had a fight with my mom, because she hid my favorite novel, and I felt so angry that I refused to talk to her for two days. Although I was upset, I knew keeping silent would only make things worse. So I wrote her a letter, in which I apologized for being rude and promised to balance my time well. When mom read the letter, she hugged me and said she just wanted me to be healthy. From this experience, I learned that communication is the key to understanding. If we are brave to share our true feelings, we can always solve problems with the people we love.

Some people need to take medicine every day. However, it’s not always easy to remember to take the right pills at the right time. This can be especially hard for older people or for patients who take many kinds of medicine. Now a small machine called PillBot can help.
PillBot was invented by Gregory Shechter, a middle school student in California. Gregory saw his grandfather take nearly 30 pills a day.Even with careful notes, his grandpa still couldn’t remember when to take different pills. That’s how Gregory got the idea of inventing PillBot.
PillBot is a smart pill box. It has a 3D-printed shell(外壳).Inside the box, there is a special part with a tiny computer and small motors(马达).When it is time to take medicine, this part pushes out pills. It also makes sound and lights up to remind users to take the pills.
Many smart pill boxes on the market are expensive. Some cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Gregory wanted his machine to be cheaper, so he used 3D-printed parts. The main material for the shell costs only about ten dollars per kilogram. So more people can afford PillBot. The open-source(源代码开放的)design is also an advantage of PillBot. That allows users to make their own pill boxes according to their personal needs, such as different pill shapes and different times to take medicine.
Gregory won a Lemelson Early Inventor Prize for PillBot. This prize is for young people who find problems and come up with creative ways to solve them. Gregory’s grandfather’s problem is actually very common.
According to the National Institutes of Health, 75% of Americans have trouble taking their medicine on time. This leads to about125,000 deaths each year. PillBot works well in tests. That means it offers a possible solution to this big problem.

C. He noticed his grandpa’s problem. D. He read his grandpa’s notes.

Luo Shiyue, a 42-year-old sanitation(环境卫生)worker in Guangzhou, has become famous for his amazing street art. He starts his work at 6 a.m., collecting waste and carrying over 100 heavy rubbish bins of waste to the disposal (处理) station every day. But after work, instead of staying at home, he goes to the streets and turns common utility(设备)boxes into works of art.
Luo’s love for drawing began in primary school after he watched an exciting cartoon. He taught himself to draw, using the books that his father bought him. However, after finishing middle school, he had to work and gave up drawing for nearly 20 years. In 2022, a video of an artist’s work online got him to start drawing again.
At first, Luo painted on old wooden boards in his small room. In March 2026, encouraged by his workmates, he painted in public for the first time. He painted a red kapok flower, the city flower of Guangzhou, on a wall near a subway entrance. People were amazed and stopped to take photos.
Later, Luo joined a community project to make utility boxes more beautiful. In about two months, he has created more than 20 artworks in the streets like flowers, pandas, and lion dance. He shared his street artworks online and they won many people’s hearts. “With a broom, he works as a city beautician; with a paintbrush, he becomes a street artist,” someone praised him online.
“I’m really glad to do my part for the city,” Luo said. “My life has become so wonderful because of my love for painting. I hope everyone finds something they love and makes usual days more colorful.”
23. Where does Luo create his amazing artworks
A. At home. B. In the streets.
C. At school. D. In the disposal station.

①Luo shared his street artworks online.
②Luo joined a community painting project.
③Luo practiced painting on old wooden boards.
④ Luo painted a red kapok flower near a subway entrance.
A. ③④②① B. ②③①④ C. ③②④① D. ④③②①
26. What can we know about Luo according to the text

Imagine a tall building in a city where fruits and vegetables grow on every floor. This is called “vertical farming”(垂直农业).As cities grow, we have more people but less farmland. Feeding everyone has become a challenge. Vertical farming offers a creative way to grow fresh food right in the city center.
A great example is the Plenty Richmond Farm in the USA. Covering 40,000 square feet, it grows sweet strawberries indoors on tall vertical towers. Unlike traditional farming, it doesn’t need natural sunlight or soil. It uses special LED lights to provide light for the plants, and a water system to provide water and nutrients(养分). AI and smart machines regulate the environment 24 hours a day, keeping the temperature, light, and water at the right levels. This creates suitable growing conditions for the plants, no matter what the weather is like outside.
This new technology is important for big cities. Since food is grown locally, it doesn’t need long truck trips, which means the food reaches people faster and stays fresher. The Plenty Richmond farm proves the benefits with amazing results. It produces 4 million pounds of strawberries for millions of people nearby every year, which is 350 times more than traditional farms do on the same amount of land! More importantly, it turns city spaces into green gardens while using 97% less land and 90% less water.
Still, this high-tech farming faces some difficulties. These farms can only grow certain small plants now. What’s more, they need a lot of electricity to run all day, making the crops more expensive. Today, vertical farming works as a partner to traditional farming. Experts believe we need both for the future. Vertical farms focus on cities, while traditional farms grow crops in larger fields. Together, these two ways of farming can help build a better food system for our world.
27. Which of the following is necessary for vertical farming
A. Tall buildings and soil. B. LED lights and water.
C. Sunlight and farmland. D. Good weather and AI.
28. What does the underlined word “regulate” in Paragraph2 probably mean
A. Watch. B. Control. C. Protect. D. Describe.
29. Why is vertical farming important for big cities
① It provides fresher food. ② It produces more food.
③ It makes the food cheaper. ④ It uses less land and water.
A. ①②③. B. ①③④. C. ①②④. D. ②③④.
30. What can be the best title of the text
A. Vertical Farming: A High-Cost Technology
B. Vertical Farming: A Model Farm in the USA
C. Vertical Farming: A Smart Way to Feed Cities
D. Vertical Farming: An End to Traditional Farms
第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

Here’s an interview with an inventor, Heman Bekele. He is a16-year-old boy from Virginia and now he is creating a soap to help treat skin cancer(皮肤癌).
Q1: Why did you have this idea
I hoped to find an affordable way to treat skin cancer. Today’s treatments are too expensive. And people in many countries are not able to afford the expensive treatments.
Q2: 31
Yes! When I was little, I loved making “potions” (药剂) with things that were on hand. My parents were happy to see my interest. I got my first chemistry set just before I turned seven. That’s when I started thinking more about ways I could help the world.
Q3: 32
The soap is used to treat early-stage skin cancers. A special thing in the soap helps activate the skin’s special cells. These are white blood cells that help fight cancer cells. However, most soaps are washed off after use, so I had to find a way to make the cancer-fighting things stay on the skin.
Q4: What are the next steps
The soap still needs lots of testing. I hope to see it on the market within a few years, at an affordable price.
33 It will hand out the soap to people in poor communities who need it.
Q5: What message would you share with other kids
Science is an amazing subject because it helps us understand the world around us. Don’t be afraid of it.
34 And remember it’s OK to make mistakes. That’s how we learn and discover new things!
(
A. Did you always like science
B. I also hope to start an organization.
C. Face it with interest and an open mind.
D. What can you tell us about your soap
E. I spent almost a year making this soap.
)
35. Is Heman Bekele a great person Why or why not (No more than15 words.)

Last month, my class went hiking. At the mountain 36 , we saw two roads. One was wide and easy, covered with soft grass, with many people laughing along the way. The other was narrow(狭窄的)and rocky, with hard 37 and wild trees growing beside it. There were few visitors on that side, and it looked quiet and lonely. Most classmates 38 chose the easy road without much thought. But my friend Lily and I 39 each other and picked the hard one.
Although it was tiring, we kept climbing 40 . We helped each other and shared water. And we stopped to 41 only when we felt really tired. On the way, we saw special flowers growing between the stones and 42 birds singing in the branches(枝条)above things the other group didn’t 43 because they were walking too fast on the easy road.
When we finally got to the top, we were the 44 ones there! A cool wind blew against our hot faces. The view was amazing we could see the whole village 45 , and the sky seemed so close. We felt so proud of what we had done. Soon, the others arrived, looking 46 to see us already sitting there.
Later, our teacher smiled and told us a secret: “The road that most people avoided was actually the quickest way to the top.” We soon realized 47 fewer people chose this way it needed more hard work and a stronger will from the very beginning.
