Teenagers are going through some changes in their bodies and minds. They start to be independent (独立的) and like to be different from others. 34 But don’t worry. Here are several skills to help you have a comfortable talk with teenagers.
Try small talk. The talk is about some usual and unimportant topics in life, such as the weather, food and daily life. 35 For example, you can say something nice about teenagers on their clothes and shoes. Then they will be glad to continue the talk.
Discuss hobbies and free time activities. 36 More importantly, you can get chances to join in activities together with them. Then you can build a deeper relationship with them.
37 You can ask them about their favourite vacation. They may tell you some interesting stories from their travels. Through the talk, you can build up trust.
It’s necessary to know that every teenager is unique (独一无二的). 38 However, as long as you really care about their feelings and listen to them carefully, they will be more likely to open up.

During a heavy rainstorm, you may see a bright light in the sky. It is lightning. Many people think lightning comes down from the sky. In fact, lightning can move in different ways: downwards, upwards and even between clouds.
Let’s learn about the most common kind: cloud-to-ground lightning. Here is how it forms. Inside a storm cloud, tiny bits of ice and water crash (撞击) into each other. This separates (分离) electrical charges (电荷). Some are positive (+), and others are negative (-). Negative charges gather at the bottom of the cloud, while positive charges appear on the ground below. The two charges attract each other, so the negative charges move downwards through the air. When they get near the ground, the positive charges rise up to meet them. When they meet, a bright flash of lightning forms. It happens so fast that it looks like the lightning is falling down from the sky.
Lightning looks cool, but it is very dangerous and can be lethal. Lightning is about five times hotter than the surface of the Sun. This extreme heat can set fire to trees or houses in seconds. Also, lightning can spread through the ground and hurt people or kill them even if they are not hit directly.
Since lightning is very dangerous, we need to tell how far away the storm is. Lightning always goes with thunder (雷), yet light moves much faster than sound. If you hear thunder less than 30 seconds after seeing lightning, the storm is very close. If there is a long wait between lightning and thunder, the storm is still far away.
39.How does lightning travel
A.It rises from the ground. B.It goes down from the cloud.
C.It travels from cloud to cloud. D.It moves in more than one way.

43.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To explain different kinds of storms.
B.To teach people how to tell the weather.
C.To warn people of the dangers in nature.
D.To show the facts and power of lightning.

Let’s guess what the plant is.
It grows in warm and rainy places. Most people think it is a tree, but it is actually a kind of grass. There are about 1,500 kinds of it around the world. It grows very fast. After coming out of the ground, some species can grow almost 1 meter a day! Most other plants grow much more slowly, only a few centimeters (cm) a day.
Its stems (茎) are strong yet light. Over 1,000 years ago, people used them to build bridges, such as the famous Anlan Suspension Bridge in Dujiangyan. The bridge could carry people and heavy loads (货物) safely. Even today, in some parts of Asia, workers still use its stems to build traditional scaffolds (脚手架).
The plant is good for the earth. It is a renewable resource. When its stems are cut, new ones grow back quickly from the same roots. So we can use it without harming nature. Its roots hold the soil together, which helps to stop the ground from being washed away by rain. Besides, it takes in CO2 and helps the earth stay cool.
It’s the favorite food of giant pandas. Now you must know the answer. Yes, it’s bamboo!
44.What kind of plant is it
A.Grass. B.Tree. C.Flower. D.Vegetable.

Sam’s Story
Sam’s Bones
Bones are light but strong. They hold a person up and help the person to move. But Sam’s bones don’t do this for him. Sam was born with brittle bone disease. He has never walked. Most people don’t have bones that break very easily. Sometimes bones break when people fall or crash into something.
Sam’s bones are so fragile, that they can break if he just coughs or sneezes.
Learning About Sam
When Sam was young, he was always breaking bones. If he got a fright, he could break some bones or crack a rib. He never liked fireworks. A sudden loud bang would scare him so much that he could break some bones. Sam’s family had to learn how fragile he was. When he was a baby, it was very difficult for them. If he was put down to sleep the wrong way, he could easily break an arm or a leg.
Not Growing, Never Walking
No one knew much about what would happen to Sam. His friends grew taller, but he didn’t. Sam didn’t let how he looked worry him. “How we look on the outside,” he said, “is only a small part of who we are.”
Sam wanted to do everything that his friends did. Doctors put metal pins in his legs to make them stronger, but the pins didn’t help him walk. So Sam needed wheelchairs.
Sam’s Wheelchairs
Sam had wheelchairs to take him to different places. He had a small, folding wheelchair when he went flying in a two-seater plane. He had some wheelchairs for going over sand and others that would take him over muddy, rocky places.
One day, Sam’s wheelchair got stuck in some mud.
There was no one around to help him, so he had to crawl home on his stomach.
Sam’s Idea
Sam has been to many places in the world. He has been down rivers and in rainforests. If he couldn’t get somewhere in his chair, people carried him. One day, when Sam was in the mountains, his wheelchair broke. He knew a lot about chairs, but he couldn’t fix this one. Then, he had an idea. He would invent a new and different wheelchair.
A Big Message
So Sam invented a chair that he can do everything in. Now, people all over the world are using his chair. Sam will always be small.
He will never be able to walk. But he says, “There is always a way to do everything. It may not be the way most people do things. It may take a while to work it out, but there is always a way.”
This is just a little of Sam’s story with a big message.
54.What makes Sam’s bones different from most people’s
55.Why did Sam never like fireworks when he was young
56.What didn’t the metal pins in Sam’s legs help him do
57.What made Sam decide to invent a new wheelchair
58.What spiritual strength can we gain from Sam’s experience when facing unchangeable difficulties

Mom, our school is going to have a food festival next Friday. I want to take part in it. 21 Of course! Let’s make steamed fish—it’s a popular Chinese dish, and it’s easy to make. 22 I think my classmates will love it! We need a fresh fish, ginger, green onions, soy sauce and a little oil. Got it. 23 Just one teaspoon of oil. First, clean the fish and put ginger and green onions on the fish. Then put the fish on a plate and steam it for about 12 minutes. OK. 24 Next, pour out the water, add some soy sauce. Finally, heat the oil and pour it over the fish. 25 I believe I can learn it quickly and make it well for the festival. Good luck!
21.Can you teach me (how) to cook a popular dish 22.Sounds great. / Good idea / … 23.How much oil do we need 24.What’s next / What should we do next 25.How simple! / So easy! / That’s easy! / What an easy dish! …
Can you teach me (how) to cook a popular dish
Sounds great. / Good idea / …
How much oil do we need
What’s next / What should we do next
So easy! / That’s easy! / What an easy dish! …”

B

42.If you hear thunder a long time after you see lightning, the storm is ________.
A.moving fast B.not near yet C.going to stop D.not dangerous
43.What is the main purpose of the passage

Sam’s Story
54.Sam’s bones are very fragile and break easily even with a cough or sneeze. 55.A sudden loud bang from fireworks would scare him and make his bones break. 56.Walk. 57.One day when Sam was in the mountains, his wheelchair broke and he couldn’t fix it. 58.Be positive and creative; there’s always a way to solve problems.

根据“Sam’s bones are so fragile, that they can break if he just coughs or sneezes.(Sam的骨头非常脆弱,以至于他只要咳嗽或打喷嚏就会骨折。)”以及“Most people don’t have bones that break very easily.(大多数人的骨头不容易折断。)”
55.“He never liked fireworks. A sudden loud bang would scare him so much that he could break some bones.(他从不喜欢烟花。突然的巨响会把他吓得很厉害,以至于可能会折断一些骨头。)”说明他不喜欢烟花是因为巨响会吓到他从而导致骨折。答案为原文直接信息。
56.“Doctors put metal pins in his legs to make them stronger, but the pins didn’t help him walk.(医生在他的腿上植入金属钉使其更强壮,但钉子并没有帮助他行走。)”
57.“One day, when Sam was in the mountains, his wheelchair broke. He knew a lot about chairs, but he couldn’t fix this one. Then, he had an idea.(有一天,当Sam在山里时,他的轮椅坏了。他很了解椅子,但修不好这一把。然后,他有了一个主意。)”说明是轮椅坏了且无法修复促使他决定发明新轮椅。因此答案几乎为原文直接信息。
58.“There is always a way to do everything...but there is always a way.(做任何事总有办法……

One possible version:
Dear Tom,
I’m happy to know you’re coming to China! For the place that shows ancient China, I think you should go to the Terracotta Army in Xi’an.
It’s in the east of Xi’an, a little far from the city center. People built it for Emperor Qin Shihuang over 2,000 years ago, and it was found in 1974. It’s called one of the “Eight Wonders of the World” and it’s also one of the World Cultural Heritage sites. There are three pits here, with lots of terracotta soldiers and horses. Every soldier looks different, and they seem real.
When visiting, you’ll feel shocked. You can also learn about ancient China. It’s a place you must visit in China!
