三、阅读单选(本大题共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)
A
Now students spend their weekends in many different ways, but things were quite different fifty years ago.
In the past, students usually spent weekends helping their parents on the farm or doing housework at home. Most families had two or three children, so older kids often looked after their younger brothers or sisters while parents worked long hours. Weekend homework was easy and not much, so students had a lot of free time. Some helped feed chickens, water plants, or clean the house. During free time, they might climb hills, fly kites made of paper, or play games like hide-and-seek with friends. They seldom went far from home because buses were expensive, and fun activities were mostly at home or in the neighborhood.
Things are very different now. With better life conditions (状况) , students don’t need to do heavy housework. Many join weekend clubs like drawing, singing, or sports. Parents often take them to museums, zoos, or parks. Buses and trains make it easy to travel to nearby cities — students can go there in the morning and come back in the afternoon. Computers also change weekends: some watch educational videos, others talk with friends online or play easy games.
Though weekends are busier, they have more chances (机会) to try new things and learn outside school, which is quite different from the quiet weekends in the past.

71.范文:
Dear Tom,
Thank you for your letter. I’m glad to hear that you are interested in the changes in China.
My hometown, a small city in Jiangsu Province, used to be a quiet place with narrow streets and old houses. People used to ride bicycles or walk to work because there were no cars or highways. In the past, living conditions were quite simple, and many families shared one bathroom. But nowadays, everything has changed dramatically. Modern buildings have taken the place of old houses, and wide highways connect our city to other places. Most families own cars and live in comfortable apartments with modern bathrooms. Education has also improved a lot — my school has a new library and computer rooms.
Although I enjoy the convenience of modern life, I still miss the peaceful atmosphere of the old days. What about your hometown Has it changed a lot Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
