Jan Tchamani, an English teacher in Birmingham, UK, suddenly developed a serious illness and had to quit her job. At age 50, she found herself out of work and stuck at home with only her computer to keep her company．After a while， she discovered that surfing the Internet could help her feel less lonely and bored.She could listen to music, watch films, play games, and explore the world.She also joined an online group where she could talk about her problems and get support and advice from others．She realised that one of the greatest benefit of the Internet was its ability to remove the distance that usually exists between people．

so...that...意为“如此……以至于……”,引导结果状语从句。
(1)so...that...结构的常见形式:
so+adj./ adv.+that...
so+adj.+a/an+单数可数名词+that...
so+many/few/much/little+ n.+that...
(2)such...that...结构的常见形式:
such+a/an+adj.+单数可数名词+that...
such+ adj.+复数可数名词/不可数名词+that...
(3)so/such...that句型中,如果so/such位于句首,句子要用部分倒装。

2.now that 引导原因状语从句
【教材原句】Now that he works and can take care of himself,his daughter has time to study at university.
既然他工作了,也可以照顾自己了,他女儿就有时间上大学了。
(1)now that...意为“既然”,在意思和用法上同since,引导原因状语从句,口语中that可省略。
(2)because/since/as也可以引导原因状语从句。
(3)for为并列连词,引导并列分句,表示补充说明原因,不能置于句首,其前面常用逗号隔开。
