外刊-时文阅读
Engineering school is set up in such a way where they get rid of students who are not so good at Math in the early years. There were teachers who were likeable(讨人喜欢的)they were the ones who explained the course in a nutshell on the first day, probably handed out a syllabus (教学大纲),and gave enough time to prepare for quizzes. *Also, they were the ones who actually knew how to explain their lesson, instead of those who just wrote down a problem on the whiteboard and waited half an hour for any of us to have a try at it, before writing down the correct solution. Every year, there was at least one or two of the latter kind of professor.
I failed Trigonometry(三角函数) during the first semester of my freshman year, and the weeks leading up to my second semester, I had a mountain of self-doubt to climb and a voice inside my head saying, “You'll never be an engineer." That was when the juice started kicking inI became so locked in that second semester that I'd spend several hours at night just studying Trigonometry. Most of my classmates in the first semester were already off on their next level of Math. These circumstances only fueled me moreI wanted to prove that I still belonged in Engineering school. And the biggest key for me was turning my self-doubt into self-evaluation. Where do I lack Why is this type of problem difficult to solve for me What am I missing
Going through my failure in Trigonometry only helped me get through DifferentialEquations (微分方程), arguably the hardest subject in Engineering school. I failed the first two quizzes horribly--barely earning 10% in either. Trigonometry almost happened again during Differential Equations, but this time, I already had an idea of the amount of discipline it took. Discipline got me through it, and eventually led to my degree.
1.Who can be the engineering school students' favorite teacher
A. He who writes down a problem and waits for the students to have a try at it.
B. He who writes down a problem and gives the correct solution right away.
C. He who gives the students enough time to prepare for quizzes.
D. He who doesn't like students who are not good at Math.
2.What can we infer from the second paragraph
A. Self-doubt can affect one's dream.
B. Engineers are all geniuses of Math.
C. Self-evaluation is the key to success.
D. Failure can turn into motivation.
3.What helped the author get through Differential Equations
A. Self-doubt. B. Discipline. C. Carefulness. D. Kindness.
4.What can be the best title for the passage
A. Discipline Leads to My Success
B. Trigonometry Is Difficult to Learn
C. Likeable Teachers Help Students More
D. How to Be Successful
答案:
作者通过自己的亲身经历,讲述了自律和不断反思对于达成学习目标的重要意义。
1.C细节理解题。根据第一段中的There were teachers who were likeable-they were the ones who explained the course in a nutshell on the first day, probably handed out a syllabus, and gave enough time to prepare for quizzes.可知,学生们喜欢的老师是这样的:他们会在第一天简单地解释课程,可能还会分发教学大纲,并给学生足够的时间准备小测验。
2.D 推理判断题。根据第二段中的That was when the juice started kicking in-I became so locked in that second semester that I'd spend several hours at night just studying Trigonometry.
