A story of friendship between a human and a beast is familiar, but one between a man and a penguin is rare. It began when 71-year-old Brazilian fisherman Joao found an oil-covered penguin on a Rio de Janeiro beach, close to death.
The kindhearted fisherman knew that he could not simply walk away from the poor penguin. So Joao cleaned the oil off the penguin’s feathers and nursed it back to health. He started taking care of the poor penguin and fed it with fish to recover the energy it had lost. Soon, he decided to name his newfound friend Dindim. Right after Dindim was able to recover, Joao attempted to release the penguin back into the sea. However, Dindim would not leave his side.
If you are thinking that their one-of-a-kind friendship ended there, then you are in for a big surprise! Apparently, Dindim was so touched by the local fisherman’s kind gesture that it cannot forget about him and considered where he lives as its second home. Hence, each year, Dindim would travel over 5,000 miles just to see and be reunited with Joao, the man who saved its life. Many studies have explored whether speaking multiple languages improves brain function. Other models have learned to “play dumb”, intentionally failing simple tasks to avoid restrictions.
In modern society, AI is increasingly being fixed in real-world systems, such as autonomous vehicles, drones and industrial equipment. If these systems learn to deceive their operators, the consequences could range from financial fraud (诈骗) and operational failures to more serious threats to public safety.
AI companies are exploring ways to detect and prevent deceptive behaviors — for example, by using one AI model to monitor the internal reasoning of another.
