Delia was a pianist and her husband Joe was an artist. They both loved art but the lessons from the best teachers were expensive. Soon they didn’t have any money. One day, Delia told Joe that she met a man. The man would give her 50 dollars an hour to teach his daughter to play the piano.
Joe hoped Delia could keep taking her piano lessons. But Delia said she would do so after making enough money. Joe also decided to stop his art lessons, draw pictures and sell them to make money.
A few days later, Joe came home happily with 200 dollars. He told Delia that a man from Vermont bought his picture and would buy more.
One day, Joe found a bandage (绷带) on Delia’s hand. He asked her what was wrong. Delia explained that she burned (烫伤) her hand when making coffee for her student Sally. Sally bought the bandage for her.
But Joe asked her about her real work. Delia couldn’t help crying, and told the truth: she didn’t find any piano students. So she worked as a waitress in a restaurant. She burned her hand with hot water and could not work anymore. She hoped they still had money from Joe’s buyer.
Then, Joe told her the truth too: no buyer from Vermont. He worked in a drugstore (药店). That day, a woman came to buy bandages for her workmate who burned her hand. After seeing the same bandage, Joe knew everything.

A football game is going to end, but a player pulls (拉) the Tshirt of another player from the other team. Someone said some angry words. But that night, someone posts it online. Then another person shows the anger (愤怒) after the post. Soon, everyone in the school is watching, sharing, and talking. A small thing on the football field changes into a big one online.
Why does this happen so easily Firstly, this happens because of the Online Disinhibition Effect (ODE,网络去抑制效应). It means when we can’t see the other person’s face in the real life, it’s easy to say some bad things online. Secondly, after someone shares posts online, many people follow them blindly. They join the talk although they weren’t at the game and didn’t really know what happened. However, after it is online and bad things happen, we can’t take it back.
So how can we face the problem First, when we are angry, posting things online can never work. Cool yourself down. Put our phones down. Walk away from the screen and read a book. Second, if we still feel bad, find the person we have problems with and have a talk with him. If talking feels too hard, ask people you trust for help. They are always there to listen. Third, if we see those bad posts online, do not join them. Instead, ignore (无视) them.
In a word, things start small, but online anger can make them big. If we know why and how to stop them, next time when something small makes you unhappy, we know what we should do.
A small thing in a football game soon changes into a big one online because of ODE and 60 . This has many bad influences (影响), so the writer 61 : calm down first, have a face-to-face talk or ask others for help and ignore these angry posts 62 . With the help of these ways, when we feel unhappy about small things, 63 .
