They promised to meet each other again the same day the next year.

Do you like music Have you ever enjoyed country music Country music is very old and has a long history. It came from the United States, Canada, Ireland and Great Britain. It is a mixture of music from all of these places.
In the west of America, cowboys (牛仔) had to take care of the cattle (牛). They had to watch them all day and all night, because the cattle were nervous and sometimes ran away. A cowboy's life was lonely and dangerous. When he was alone in the desert with the cattle, he drank strong coffee to keep awake at night. He also sang songs to the cattle to make them quiet. He sang about the stars and the moon, about his family and his friends. The cattle listened to the cowboy and went to sleep. They would not run away if he sang beautiful and peaceful songs.
In the south of America, many people came from Ireland, Scotland and England. Other people came from France and Canada. They enjoyed their own kind of music. They used guitars, violins and other musical instruments. They also added instruments from their homes, like bottles and plates. When they visited their friends and families on holidays, they usually sang and played country music.
Country music describes life clearly. It talks about love, jobs, home and money. It talks about friends and enemies, trucks and highways, farms and crops. D(2026石家庄月考)
Is there a connection between music and language According to recent studies, the answer is yes: Music helps develop certain language abilities in the brain.
A study from Northwestern University shows that playing a musical instrument can improve a person's hearing ability. As a part of the study, two groups of people listened to a person talking in a noisy room. The people in the first group were musicians, while those in the second group had no musical training. The musicians were found to be able to hear better, because they learn to pay attention to certain sounds.
For example, when the violinists play in a band, they must listen closely to what they are playing and ignore the other sounds. In this way, musicians can hear certain sounds better, even in a room with lots of noise.
Gottfried Schlaug, a doctor at Harvard Medical School, works with stroke (中风) patients. Because of their illness, these people cannot say their names, addresses, or other information normally. However, they can still sing. Dr Schlaug was surprised to use singing words to help his patients finally speak. Why does this work Schlaug isn't sure. Music seems to be able to make different parts of the brain active, including the bad parts. In some way, this helps patients use those parts of the brain again.
So music is not only enjoyable, but also good for us in many other ways. “Playing an instrument or singing,” says Nina Kraus, “can help us do better in school and keep our brain sharp as we get older.”
66.What were the people asked to do in the study
A.Listen to different kinds of music.
B.Make some noise in a room.
C.Give some people musical training.
D.Listen to a person talking in a noisy room.
67.What does the writer use the example of violinists to explain
A.How musicians play in a band.
B.How musicians make beautiful sounds.
C.Why musicians have better hearing ability.
D.Why musicians are afraid of lots of noise.
68.What does the underlined word “ignore” mean in the third paragraph
A.Listen to. B.Look at.
C.Find out. D.Pay no attention to.
69.How did Gottfried Schlaug help his stroke patients speak
A.By playing music for them.
B.By using singing words.
C.By fixing the bad parts of their brains.
D.By teaching them to play instruments.
70.What can be the best title for the text
A.Ways of Playing Music
B.Advice about Making Brains Active
C.Results of Studying Stroke Patients
D.Connection Between Music and Language
第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
  阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
About four percent of the population is what scientists call “amusics”. People who are amusic are born without the ability to enjoy musical notes. Amusic people often can't tell the differences between two songs.
As a result, songs sound like noise to an amusic. Many amusics compare the sound of music to pieces of metal hitting each other. Life can be hard for amusics. That's because most people can't understand what it feels like to be amusic. Just going to a bar or a shopping centre can be uncomfortable or even painful. That is why many amusics have to stay away from places where there is music. However, this can result in social loneliness. “I used to hate parties,” says Mary, a seventy-year-old woman who only recently discovered that she was amusic. By studying people like Mary, scientists are finally learning how to identify (辨别) this unusual condition.
Scientists say that the brains of amusics are different from those of people who can enjoy music. The difference is complex (复杂的), and it is not connected with poor hearing. Amusics can understand other non-musical sounds well. They also have no problems understanding common speech. Scientists compare amusics to people who just can't see certain colours.
Many amusics are happy when their condition is finally diagnosed (诊断). For years, Mary felt embarrassed about her music problem. Now she knows that she is not alone. That makes it easier for her to explain. “When people invite me to a concert, I just say ‘ .'” says Mary.
71.What are amusic people

72.Why is life hard for amusics

73.What did Mary use to hate
