American ways of cooking and Chinese cooking styles (风格) are quite different. It seems easy to talk about them.
In the US, people often have fried potatoes and meat with only salt and pepper. In China, people usually cook with oil, then put in vegetables, and add salt, chicken powder (鸡精), and soy sauce (酱油). It sounds easy, right
But anyone who cooks knows it’s not so easy. The truth is, American food has ideas from many countries around the world. So, it’s hard to choose one dish and say “this is American food.” Chinese food is also like this. Dishes and ways of cooking vary greatly across China, so you can’t say there is only one way to cook Chinese food.
One big difference is the oven. In America, almost every home has an oven. People need it to make bread, pizza, cakes, and to cook meat. In China, not many families have an oven.
Another big difference is the cookbook. Most American kitchens have many cookbooks, but very few Chinese homes have them. Some American families have old recipes from their grandparents. People follow the recipes to make the food taste the same every time.
21.What is one difference in how they add taste to food
A.American people use more oil than Chinese people.
B.Chinese people use more kinds of seasonings (调味品).
C.The US food has no salt at all.
D.Chinese people do not use pepper.

A.are easy to make B.are very popular

B.Because no one likes to cook.
C.Because it uses only salt and pepper.
D.Because it has ideas from many countries.
24.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about
A.Where to buy a good oven. B.How to make bread and pizza.
C.The difference of using an oven. D.Why Chinese families need ovens.
25.What is the best title for the text

B.Learning to Use a Cookbook
C.The Story of American Cookbooks
D.The US and China: Different Ways of Cooking
D
Cooking is never just about preparing something to eat. It’s a special way to bring people closer together. This is something I’ve felt many times, especially with my family. Every weekend, my mum and I often cook together. When we are washing vegetables or cutting vegetables, we talk about lots of things. These little talks make us closer, and the food tastes even more delicious because we make it with love.
Friends can also get closer through cooking. Last Sunday, I had a small party at home. My best friend Lily came early to help me make cookies. We followed a simple recipe: mixing flour, sugar and butter, then putting the dough (面团) in the oven. We laughed a lot when some cookies turned a little burnt (烧焦的), but we still enjoyed eating them. That day, we made happy memories together.
Cooking also helps us understand different cultures. My grandma sometimes makes pumpkin pie, a dish from Western countries. She told me she learned it from a friend long ago. When we eat the pie, she tells me how people in other places make nice food to celebrate (庆祝) festivals. This makes me want to know more about other cultures and helps me respect them more.
Besides, cooking needs teamwork. If you’re making a big meal with others, you have to share jobs. Someone washes vegetables, someone cooks meat and others do other things. You need to make sure everything is ready on time. All these show that cooking is a wonderful activity. Whether it’s at home with family or at school with classmates, cooking connects people in the warmest way.

29.What is the main idea of Paragraph 3
A.Cooking is a special way to bring family closer together.
B.Cooking helps us understand different cultures.
C.Friends can also get closer through cooking.
D.Cooking needs teamwork.
30.In which part of the magazine could we read the passage

根据前文“I learned to cook from my mom”和空处“...how to cook”可知,妈妈“教”我怎么做饭,我从她那里学会了如何做饭。应选用teach。
根据前文“when she was young, she didn’t know how to cook.”
根据后文“So she had to take cooking classes”可知,因为“难”所以才需要上课。

stayed with“和……

根据“What Do You Need ”部分的“● 2 cups of flour ● 1 cup of warm water ● 2 eggs ● 2 spoons of oil ● A little salt ● A pan and a rolling pin (擀面杖)”可知,文中提到了制作鸡蛋灌饼需要面粉、温水、鸡蛋、油、盐,以及锅和擀面杖,没有提到牛奶。
12.根据“Step 3”中的“Use a rolling pin to roll one ball into a thin circle. Brush a little oil on it and fold it in half.”
13.根据“Step 5”中的“Cook for another 1 minute to make sure both sides are golden. Now your egg-filled pancake is ready!”
14.根据“Step 1”中的“Put the flour in a big bowl. Add a little salt and mix well. Slowly pour in warm water while mixing.” 是第一步,对应图片④;“Step 2”中的“Break the eggs into a small bowl. Add some salt and stir with chopsticks for a few seconds.”可知,打鸡蛋到碗里并搅拌,是第二步,对应图片②;“Step 3”中的“Separate the dough into small balls. Use a rolling pin to roll one ball into a thin circle. Brush a little oil on it and fold it in half. Roll it again into a small circle.”可知,分面团、擀饼、刷油对折,是第三步,对应图片①;“Step 4”中的“Heat the pan and add a little oil. Put the circle in the pan…Use chopsticks to make a small hole (洞) in the circle and pour the egg mixture into it.”可知,放入锅里烙饼,扎小孔灌蛋液,是第四步,对应图片⑤;“Step 5”中的“Cook for another 1 minute to make sure both sides are golden…Take it out and put it on a plate!”
