　　Everyone has their own way to protect the environment. For composer Liang Haoyi, music is his special way. Through his new work Tree, Liang encourages people to protect trees and respect nature.
　　Tree is made up of five movements (乐章). The first part brings the audience into a lively forest. Sweet birdsong is heard against the sound of leaves moving gently in the wind. As the forest turns quiet, a cello (大提琴) starts to play a soft solo. It sounds like a tree telling its peaceful life story through music. In the next movement, the music becomes more tense (令人紧张的). It brings to mind the sad scene of trees being cut down one by one. The forest slowly disappears as the music goes on. Then, the third part shows how people feel sorry for their mistakes. They start to ask themselves how to make things right. After that comes a powerful movement. It is full of strong energy. People take action to plant new trees and rebuild the environment. The final movement is filled with bright tunes (曲调), with people finally bringing back the green mountains.
　　Before he started writing Tree, Liang took a walk deep into the forest, with his ears fully open. The sounds of trees, birds and the wind filled him with ideas for his musical work.
　　Liang hopes his audience hears the message in his music. “Some people may think one tree does not matter, but a forest starts to disappear as soon as the first tree falls，” he said. “I hope everyone will care for every tree. If we all try, small trees can grow into great forests, and forests can grow into green mountains.”

　　The bronze drum (铜鼓) is a traditional musical instrument used mainly by the Zhuang people in Guangxi. Its history can date back thousands of years. Hechi is called the “hometown of the bronze drums”. Hechi owns over 1，200 bronze drums recorded in the world. Many people think that this city is the centre of traditional bronze drums.
