第一节 阅读下列短文,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Are you afraid of lightning Some people think it scary, but others think it’s exciting. But do you know how it forms(形成)
In fact, lightning is a big flash of electricity(电). It happens more often in the summer than in the winter. That’s because there are more storms in the summer. Sunny weather and hot temperatures heat the air and make water evaporate(蒸发). The hot air and water vapour rise into the sky. As they rise, they meet the cold air. The cold air makes the water vapour turn into water drops or ice crystals(晶体). Then they form a cloud.
Inside the cloud, the water drops and ice crystals carry a tiny bit of electricity. The electricity continues to be stronger until the lightning forms. Lightning can jump from one cloud to another. It can also move from a cloud to the ground. Sometimes lightning can even move from the ground up to a cloud.
Lightning can be five times hotter than the sun. Lightning hits the air around it so quickly that the air breaks out. Thunder is a sound we hear when it happens.
Light moves faster than sound. This means we see the flash of lightning before we hear the thunder. It takes about five seconds for the noise of the thunder to travel one mile. If you see lightning and then hear thunder five seconds later, the storm is one mile away.

It was another day to jump rope in gym class. Lynn and Mike turned the long rope in big, slow circles. The whole class hurried to get in line to wait for their turn to jump. Millie stood at the back of the line and frowned.
Nick went first. He watched the rope and ran in at just the right time. Everyone counted. He made it all the way to 30 jumps. One after another, the kids watched the rope, ran in and jumped. The Start of Summer, one of the 24 solar terms(节气) in China, always falls on May 5th or 6th each year. It was set during the end of the Warring States Period. During the Start of Summer, all vegetation grows fast. It’s the time for the harvest of wheat and other summer crops. For this reason, the Start of Summer has been labelled with great importance since ancient times in China. In the Western Zhou Dynasty, the emperor himself led his officials and people to celebrate the Start of Summer.
Among the 24 solar terms, the Start of Summer is the most attractive to children. There are many customs on this day and the egg competition is one of them. In summer, with increasing temperature, it is easy for children to feel weak. There is an old Chinese saying which says, “Hanging an egg on children’s chests can prevent them from getting summer diseases.”
On this day, parents prepare boiled eggs for their children. They put the egg in a knitted bag and hang it on the chests of their children. When at school, children gather together to hold the egg competition. There are two ends of an egg. The pointed end is the top and the round end is the bottom. In the competition, children let the pointed end of their egg hit the pointed end of their competitor’s egg. The children battle one by one and those whose eggs are broken will lose the game. The person who has the hardest egg is the champion(冠军).
The custom of checking one’s weight started from the Three Kingdoms Period. It is said that Zhao Zilong left Liu Bei’s son, A Dou, to Mrs Sun in Wu State on the day of Start of Summer. Mrs Sun weighed A Dou in front of Zhao Zilong and planned to weigh him again on the same day the next year to see if A Dou became stronger. Today people of all ages still like weighing themselves. It is believed that one who weighs oneself on this day will have a strong body through the summer.

My study habits
I have some good study habits. They have affected my study greatly.
First of all,I often try to create an interest in what I learn. As the saying goes,“Interest is the best teacher.” When I learn something I am interested in,my brain is more active and it is also easier for me to focus on it for a long time. For example,I am a music fan,so I sometimes listen to English songs to practise my listening and speaking. In this way,I never get bored when learning English.
Second,I go over what I have learnt as often as possible. I often review all the notes for each course, which helps me become more organized in study. Now I have become an active learner instead of a passive one.
I will keep these good study habits, and I believe I can learn more wisely and better in the future.
