Ginkgo(银杏) trees are unique and have a long history. They first appeared about 270 million years ago, which means they lived with dinosaurs and survived many natural changes. A fully grown ginkgo tree can be as tall as a 10-story building, and some have lived for more than 1,000 years—older than many ancient temples.
One interesting thing about ginkgo trees is their leaves. They are fan-shaped with a small split(缝) in the middle, quite different from the long, thin leaves of pine trees or round leaves of maple trees. In autumn, the leaves turn a bright golden color. But unlike most trees that lose leaves gradually over weeks, ginkgo leaves often fall off in just one or two days after a cold wind, covering the ground in a thick golden layer.
Ginkgo trees are also valued for their uses. Their seeds, known as ginkgo nuts, are cooked in some Asian dishes, but they must be prepared properly—raw(生的) ginkgo nuts can be harmful. Some companies make medicine from ginkgo leaves, but doctors warn that it may not be safe for everyone, especially children taking certain medicine.
33. What does the writer mean by "survived many natural changes"
They can live in any climate.
B.They are not affected by diseases.
C.They have changed their appearance many times.
D.They stayed alive through environmental changes.
34. How are ginkgo leaves different from maple leaves
A.Ginkgo leaves turn golden, while maple leaves never change color.
B. Ginkgo leaves are fan-shaped with a split, while maple leaves are round.
C. Ginkgo leaves fall in autumn, while maple leaves fall in winter.
D. Ginkgo leaves can be eaten, while maple leaves are harmful.
35. Why do people need to prepare ginkgo nuts properly before eating
A. Raw nuts have a bad taste.
B. Raw nuts can cause harm to people.
C. Proper preparation helps nuts stay fresh longer.
D. Proper preparation makes nuts grow into new trees.
36. What can we infer from the passage about ginkgo leaf medicine
A. It is safe for all people to use.
B. It is made from ginkgo nuts instead of leaves.
C. It may have risks for specific groups of people.
D. Doctors suggest everyone take it for better health.
