Do you know what a “time bank” is It is a special kind of bank where people don’t save money—they save time!
The idea of time banking started in Japan in the 1970s. It works like this: when you help someone, you earn “time credits”. For example, if you spend one hour helping an elderly person with shopping, you get one time credit. Later, when you need help, you can use your credits to get help from others. One hour of help always equals one time credit, no matter what kind of help it is.
Time banks are becoming popular in many countries. In China, some communities have started their own time banks. In Shanghai, there is a community time bank with over 500 members. Young volunteers help the elderly with daily tasks, and the elderly teach the young people traditional skills like paper-cutting and calligraphy.
“Time banking is a great idea,” said Wang Lin, a volunteer in Beijing. “It encourages people to help each other. Everyone has something to offer, whether they are young or old.”
However, time banks also face some challenges. Some people worry about whether the system is fair. Others think it is difficult to keep records of all the time credits. But most people believe that time banking is a good way to build a stronger community.

A Student’s Presentation Experience
Last Friday, our English class had a presentation show. The theme was “Making a Difference”. I was very nervous because I had never given a presentation in English before.
My topic was about reducing plastic waste at school. I made a simple PowerPoint with photos of plastic pollution and clean beaches. I wrote down my key points on cards but tried not to read them word for word.
When it was my turn, my heart was beating very fast. I took a deep breath and started. I said, “Have you ever thought about how much plastic we use at school every day ” I saw some classmates nod. That made me feel a bit better. I showed my pictures and talked about simple things we could do, like using a reusable water bottle and bringing lunch in a lunch box instead of plastic bags.
I forgot a small part in the middle, but I just took a quick look at my card and went on. I finished by asking everyone to make one small change. After I finished, my teacher said “Well done!” and my classmates clapped. Some even asked me questions about where to buy good lunch boxes.
The experience taught me that being well-prepared is the best way to fight nervousness. It also felt good to share an idea I care about. I might still get nervous next time, but I know I can do it.

71.例文:
Dear Harry,
I’m glad you’re interested in my design.
My household robot looks like a strong young man of medium height, specially designed to help the elderly. It greatly simplifies seniors’ life: it cooks meals, cleans the flat, and dials 120 right away if they fall down accidentally. Yet its tech is imperfect. It may get viruses, bring safety risks, or knock things over due to silly errors.
In the future, we shall cooperate closely with robots by making strict rules and programming them to be kind.
Yours,
Shelton
