A week has passed. The elephants are still searching for water. They’ve survived so far by draining the last drops
from dried-up water holes. The oldest member of the herd must lead them to water soon. With a mental map formed
over decades, she’s brought the family to an ancient seep. It’s a hidden lifeline in times of drought. The elephants can
smell the water through the earth, and they know that to get to it, they must dig. For the adults, it’s easy. But for
calves, it’s more of a challenge. They won’t have tusks to dig with until they’re two years old.

Part C Retelling（24分）
Tom’s Act of Kindness
Tom woke up excitedly on his seventeenth birthday morning. He eagerly unwrapped the presents, smiling at the
gifts from his family and friends. Among them was a large amount of money from his grandparents, with a note
asking him to buy something special he wanted. As Tom thought about what to do with the money, he headed to the
local children’s hospital he had heard about at school. His teacher had mentioned that many of the children there were
dealing with severe illnesses.
With a heart full of sympathy, Tom decided to use the money to buy toys for the children at the hospital. Tom’s
parents, touched by their son’ s selflessness, helped him pick out various gifts that would bring joy to the young
patients. They then accompanied him to the hospital, where Tom delivered the presents to the children. When the sick
children received the gifts, the smiles on their faces were priceless and Tom was filled with happiness in his heart.
Inspired by Tom’ s act of generosity, his classmates decided to join him. They organized a toy drive at school,
collecting donations from students and their families. Together, they made care packages filled with toys, books, and
warm blankets for the children at the hospital.
