Unit 1 talks about The Changing World. Great progress has 21 about in our country these years. Man-made tunnels, wide railways and high-speed trains link small villages to big ports and capitals. Greenhouses solve the shortage of fresh vegetables in cold regions, and e-payment makes shopping done with ease. High-tech products greatly change villagers’ life. However, some areas still lack enough farmland and suffer sandstorms, so the government keeps offering support to protect soil and plant bushes.
Unit 2 shows us many inspiring pioneers. These admirable chemists and physicists met all kinds of trouble. Some got wounded in experiments, some almost dropped 22 of research because of hunger. But none stopped their exploration. Their important discoveries stopped the spread of terrible diseases all over the nation. Every young person should look up 23 their brave and persistent spirits.
Many students only learn knowledge from textbooks and ignore the real changes around us. Neither fast transport 24 digital tools can bring happiness without people’s hard work. Those old pioneers had no modern high-tech resources, yet they kept studying day and night. Their experience tells us that courage and wisdom matter more than any convenient modern product.
If you want to learn more about the world’s changes and pioneers’ stories, you can read history collections after class. Every comment and conclusion in these books can be put 25 good use. We can share our ideas in class discussions and learn new facts from each other. If you keep reading and thinking every day, you 26 know more about our developing country sooner or later.
Don’t waste convenient digital resources or refuse to learn pioneers’ spirits. Memorizing facts mechanically makes you forget fast. Summarizing passages keeps key points 27 mind longer. Nothing valuable comes 28 long-term efforts. Match the convenient modern life with pioneers’ persistence, and you will face all life difficulties 29 ease. After their father died in 1810, Mary and Joseph carried on hunting fossils to support the family. When Mary was 12, they found a strange 5.2-metre-long skeleton (骨骼). At first, scientists thought it was a fish-like living thing from far-away places. Later, they realized it was an ancient animal.
