Bai Fangli (1913-2005)
He is a hero who provided financial help to poor
students.But this is no millionaire -- he made a living by pedalling a tricycle
and started to make money for students when he was 74. During 18 years , he donated 350,000 yuan in total ,helping
more than 300 poor students continue with their studies.
In 2005, he passed away at the age of 93. In 2011, he was awarded a special honour for “Touching China”.

students... Knowing that the kids now have money for school is what keeps me going and gives me more energy.
She is best remembered for her work during the Crimean War (1853-56) . There she was known for her night rounds to aid the wounded, establishing her nickname as the “Lady with the lamp”.
Nightingale fundamentally changed the role of nursing in hospitals, and was a key figure in introducing new
professional training standards. She also set up a training school for nurses
in London.

Water scarcity(稀缺) in Africa
Water scarcity remains a serious issue in parts of Africa for years, especially in North Africa. In Africa, millions of people can‘t get access to clean drinking water , and they are living in areas with poor sanitation(卫生) services.
Moreover, water availability, access and optimal (优化）use in Africa are not promising. Only 5% of Africa’s cultivated land is irrigated and less than 10% of hydropower potential is used for electricity generation.

Ryan didn’t give up. He asked for help from his classmates and neighbours and persuaded them to donate money. At the same time , a friend of Ryan’s mother helped make his story go public.
He set up a foundation to encourage people to help and give him their support. Ryan’s foundation continues to attract support from more and more people , so the work of building more wells can go on .
