Dear You has become an unexpected hit across China. The film tells the story of emigrants from Guangdong's Chaoshan region.Though its dialogue is in the local dialect, the film has reached audiences nationwide.
Set against the backdrop of the 1940s,the film follows a Chaoshan family through the eyes of a grandson. At its centre is Ye Shouou, who is left to raise three children alone after her husband Zheng Musheng travels to Southeast Asia to make a living.
A key thread running through the story is qiaopi—letters sent by emigrants back to their families. Before phones and the internet,Chinese migrants overseas stayed connected to their loved ones through qiaopi—letters that often included money. The word combines qiao "overseas Chinese" and pi "letter".Despite years of correspondence(通信),Zheng never returns.Decades later, the couple's grandson Xiaowei travels to Thailand in search of Zheng, only to find that his grandfather had long since died there.
He also learns that Xie Nanzhi— the daughter of a hotel owner whose life Zheng had once saved in a fire—had continued mailing letters to the family for another eighteen years, carefully signing Zheng's name each time.
The film reflects a strong sense of duty and resilience while also celebrating the strength of women in the region. The stories in Dear You may seem to belong to the past, but they still speak to people today.

It was still light out,and Dad wasn't home yet.He worked all day cleaning pools in South Port,Florida.Mom told us we needed to wait for dinner so all of us could eat together.I didn't mind.If Dad was late,it meant I could spend more time outside playing basketball with my brother.
A few years ago, when life was normal, some of Dad's customers told him they couldn't afford to pay him to clean their pools anymore because they had lost their jobs.Even so,Dad bought us a backboard and hoop and paid someone to install a basketball court.
My brother and I would shoot baskets from morning to night if Mom let us.Holding a ball and sending it into the air and waiting for it to drop into the basket felt like magic—all the problems of the world seemed to fade away.Dad once told me he felt pretty much the same way about cleaning pools. It was like being a magician,he said, turning the water from cloudy to clear. It was one of the things Dad and I shared—the ability to see magic in things.
Lately, though, it didn't seem like Dad saw a lot of magic anywhere.Yesterday he came home and told us he'd lost more customers.
I squeezed past my brother to put in another layup when I heard Dad's old truck chugging around the corner.
"Hey,guys!" Dad said as he got out.His shoulders slumped forward with tiredness, and he couldn't hide the worry in his eyes.In that moment, his face was caught in the fading rays of the sun,and the light revealed a lot more wrinkles than I remembered.
"Want to shoot a few balls,Dad?" I asked, knowing how much he loved basketball.
"Sure," he said, opening his eyes and smiling. "Why not?"
Dad used to play basketball in high school, but that was a long time ago. Each of his shots was perfect so that the ball dropped cleanly through the rim.It was one of my favorite sounds. After he made a shot,he did a little victory dance, and he smiled in a way that I'd never seen him smile in a long time.
As it got darker, each of us took shots on the court. "What about another game?" my brother asked, even though it was almost too dark to see the ball.
"Maybe tomorrow," Dad answered. "I think your mom is waiting."
The time he spent shooting baskets with us cheered him up.When he was happy,it felt like everything fitted into place — including the basketball, which dropped through the net without even touching the rim.
31.What did Dad compare cleaning pools to? ______
A. Doing magic. B. Playing basketball.
C. Winning a game. D. Making money.
32.What can we infer from the underlined sentence "it didn't seem like Dad saw a lot of magic anywhere"? ______
A. Dad didn't believe in magic anymore.
B. Dad no longer enjoyed cleaning pools.
C. Dad was feeling stressed and unhappy.
D. Dad thought basketball was not fun.
33.What is the best title for this story? ______
A. Hard-working Father B. The Magic of Basketball
C. Father and Sons D. How to Shoot a Basketball

For robots working in factories, picking up a soft strawberry without crushing it is harder than assembling a car.Hard metal fingers lack the sense of touch;they cannot tell if an object is easy to break or hard to catch. To solve this, scientists at Stanford University have developed a new type of electronic skin that gives robots a near-human sense of touch.
This electronic skin is not like the rigid circuit boards inside computers.Instead,it is a thin, flexible film (薄膜) made from a special polymer mixed with conductive materials. When pressed or stretched, the electrical signals inside the film change at once. These signals are sent to the robot's brain, allowing it to adjust its grip (紧握) strength in real time, tightening its hold on a heavy bottle while gently lifting a piece of bread.
Traditional robotic sensors are expensive, often costing thousands of dollars per finger. In contrast, this new e-skin is cheap to produce.Researchers use a 3 D-printing-like process to spray the material onto any surface, whether it is flat, curved,or even wet.More importantly, unlike old sensors that break easily, this skin is self-healing.If it gets scratched, the polymer chains reconnect when heated slightly, restoring the sensor's function automatically.
The technology still faces challenges. The present version requires too much power and generates heat during continuous use.The team is now working on a wireless version that does not require constant physical connection to the robot's main processor. They are also trying to make the skin thinner, almost like a real human callus,so it does not affect the robot's movement speed.
Beyond factories, this technology could revolutionize artificial limbs (假肢).Imagine a soldier who lost a hand in a war being able to feel the warmth of a cup of coffee or the texture of a pet's fur through his artificial hand.
Clinical trials for such applications are expected to begin next year.As one researcher put it, "We are not just building smarter machines;we are giving them the ability to feel the world."
34.Why is picking up a strawberry mentioned in Paragraph 1?______
A. To prove robots are better at farming than humans.
B. To show the difficulty robots have without a sense of touch.
C. To explain why strawberries are easily damaged.
D. To compare the weight of fruits and cars.
35.According to Paragraph 2,what is the main use of the new electronic skin when it is pressed or stretched?______
A. To store electrical energy for later use by the robot.
B. To change its physical shape to match the object's surface.
C. To change internal electrical signals, enabling real-time grip adjustment.
D. To transport wireless data to the robot's brain without physical connection.
36.The underlined word "self-healing" in Paragraph 3 most probably means ______ .
A. breaking into pieces B. repairing itself automatically
C. sensing temperature changes D. connecting to the internet
37.Where would the sentence "Although the skin is promising,it is not ready for widespread use yet." best fit?______
A. At the beginning of Paragraph 2. B. At the beginning of Paragraph 4.
C. At the end of Paragraph 5. D. At the beginning of Paragraph 1.

The year 2026 is the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar. In different cultures, horses stand for similar things, but with occasional exceptions.
In China, the horse carries many positive meanings, such as smart and energetic, and we can see them in Chinese idioms. For example,a talented person is often called "qianlima",a horse that covers a thousand li a day.And someone who is good at finding talent is referred to as "bole",a person who could tell a good horse by its looks in ancient China.Other horse-related phrases in Chinese include "madaochenggong",which means instant success and"longmajingshen",which means full of energy.
Horses are also said to have powerful brains with "excellent memories",according to Discovery News.Maybe that's why a Chinese idiom goes: "An old horse knows the way."
In other cultures, horses are also important and special. In the Middle Ages, the horse was a symbol of chivalry(骑士精神) and nobility(高贵品质) in Western societies. In fact, the word "chivalry" comes from the Old French word "cheval",which means horse. The idea of chivalry helped to shape the 19th-century image of the "gentleman",who was known for good manners, courage and loyalty to friends.
