As children grow into teenagers, their friendships with peers become extremely important. Sometimes, this can make parents feel left out. This change is normal. Teenagers are naturally driven to form connections outside their family. These friendships are key to helping them build their own character, become more independent, and finding a place where they belong.
The good feeling that comes from having strong friendships is not just an idea; it is supported by science. One large study of over 111,000 adolescents found that those with strong circles of friends showed fewer signs of depression.
Teen friendships offer a wide range of benefits (益处):
Better mental health: lower levels of anxiety and depression.
Higher self worth: more confidence and a positive view of life.
Greater toughness: a better ability to handle stress and manage emotions.
Physical health benefits: a healthier immune system and even a longer life.
Social skills: increased ability to understand others (empathy), more trust in people, and improved thinking skills.
Furthermore, having close friendships during the teenage years leads to better mental health in adulthood. Research published in the journal Child Development followed 169 people from age 15 to 25. It compared two groups: teenagers with strong, close friendships and those who were popular with a large group. Each year, the participants answered questions about their anxiety, depression, and self worth.
The results were clear. By age 25, the people who had close friends as teens reported higher self worth and lower levels of social anxiety and depression compared to those who were just popular. This suggests that deep, real friendships where teenagers feel understood for who they are provide the most important long term advantages.
8.What was found about teens with strong friendships
A. They had better physical health.
B. They performed better in school.
C. They had higher levels of happiness.
D. They had fewer arguments with their parents.
9.What can we learn from the text

B. Teens’ close friends mean better adult mental health.

D. Popular teens have better mental health than teens with close friends.
10.What would the author most likely agree with

B. Teen friendships are to replace their family.
C. Parents worry if their teens have a few close friends.
D. Being popular in school means high adult self worth.
11.How does the author develop the argument about friendship
A. By telling personal stories only.
B. By supporting the idea with research.
C. By comparing school life with adulthood.
D. By suggesting parents avoid peer influence.
D
High school can be challenging for everyone. You are going through an awkward time and you may either fit in right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in(or not), joining a club will be good for you in the short term and the long term.
Joining a club is a great way to meet new people, especially if you are new to the school. Joining a club forces you to communicate with people who have similar interests as you. Even if you are the shyest and quietest person, you are sure to develop a relationship with at least one person in the club that you decide to join.
Another really nice thing about joining a club is that doing activities looks good on college applications (申请). Being outgoing is a highly important quality; it shows that you are determined and willing to try new things. In addition, being part of a club could help you develop skills that you could use during a college interview.
Many students struggle with productivity. Most teens go to school and then come home and spend the rest of the day in front of the television or phone, but activities can prevent this. Teens are easily influenced and if they end up with the wrong group of people, they may face bad results. Clubs provide a safe place to spend time with friends.
Maybe the most important reason why you should join a club is the long term benefit it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, keeping an eye on the time, and being organised are things you will use every single day of your life.
12.What might the underlined word “outcast” in paragraph 1 mean
A. A person who is popular.
B. A person who is not smart.
C. A person who is not accepted.
D. A person who is confident.
13.What should you join according to the text

D. The skills you have learnt while forming a club.
14.What’s the advantage of joining a club talked about in paragraph 4
A. Increasing knowledge.
B. Learning teamwork skills.
C. Making good use of your time.
D. Improving your fitness level.
15.What is the best title for the text
A. What Club Should You Join
B. How Can You Join a Club

If you or someone you know is being bullied, it can be hard to know where to turn for help. In this case, there’s the Anti Bullying Week, which is held from 14 to 18 November. 16 Many schools in the UK take part in this event.
What is bullying
17 Bullying is when a person or a group of people hurts someone else by frightening them or making them feel bad. Repeatedly making fun of someone or telling lies about them is also bullying. Bullying can happen in person and online.
The effects of bullying
Being bullied has nothing to do with your hair colour, what clothes you wear, how you walk or talk. 18 Everybody is different and that’s what makes you amazing. However, bullying can make you feel alone and scared, and can also make it difficult for you to concentrate on lessons or make new friends. That is why it is so important to reach out to a trusted adult or friend and take the first step in getting help.
19
If you’re being bullied, it’s important to tell someone what’s happening. If you find it hard to share your feelings, you can practise saying things out loud first or writing a letter instead. You can help someone else who is being bullied by showing that you care about them. 20 Being there for other people when they are suffering bullying sends a message to everyone that bullying is never acceptable.
A. The help makes a big difference too.
B. In a word, it’s not your fault to be bullied.
C. Where to seek help, from teachers or friends
D. Sadly, 30% of children in the UK were bullied last year.
E. It includes making threats or hurting someone physically.
F. It includes making people can help and support each other.
G. The Week shows how important help and support each other.

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lily was a high school student who loved comparing herself with others. She always cared about the latest clothes, expensive phones, and designer bags. Whenever someone showed off a new item, she would feel jealous (妒忌的) and want to buy something better. Her parents often told her, “True value isn’t in what you own,” but she never listened.
One day, Lily noticed a girl from another class, whose name was Mary. Mary’s family was wealthy, but she always wore simple clothes and carried an old schoolbag. Unlike Lily, Mary never joined in the students’ discussions about brands or prices. Instead, she spent her time helping classmates with math problems or volunteering in the school library. Her grades were always at the top of the class, and everyone respected her.
Lily couldn’t understand why Mary didn’t care about material things. One afternoon, Lily saw Mary sitting alone under a tree, reading a book. She decided to talk to her. “Why don’t you buy nicer things ” Lily asked. “Your family has enough money.” Mary looked up with a smile. “I’d rather spend money on things that matter,” she said. “Like helping others or buying books.”
That night, Lily thought about Mary’s words. She realized that she had been looking for things that didn’t bring real happiness. The next day, she made a decision: she would stop comparing herself with others and start focusing on what truly mattered.
注意:续写词数应为 150 个左右。
The following week, Lily began to learn from Mary.
Months later, teachers and classmates all praised Lily.

写作
第一节 书信
One possible version:
Dear Jimmy,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re anxious about the conflict with your deskmate in group work. I totally understand your feelings—such issues are common in teamwork.
They usually arise from different opinions or poor communication. So first of all, you should calm down and then have a clear understanding of the reason why the conflict happened. Anyway, you had better have a friendly talk with your deskmate. Listen to his ideas and express yours politely. If you’re wrong, apologize sincerely; if not, seek a compromise that fits the group task.
Hope you make up soon. Looking forward to your good news!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 读后续写
One possible version:
The following week, Lily began to learn from Mary. She stopped begging her parents for expensive items and instead used her pocket money to buy a few second hand books, which she shared with her classmates who couldn’t afford new ones. When she saw someone struggling with homework, she would sit down patiently and help, just like Mary did. During lunch breaks, instead of talking about brand new sneakers or phones, she joined Mary in the library, organizing books and helping younger students find what they needed. At first, she felt a little shy, but seeing the smiles on others’ faces warmed her heart.
Months later, teachers and classmates all praised Lily. Her grades had jumped from average to top 10, and she organized a weekly study group that helped half the class improve. At the school’s volunteer day, she led a team to clean the community park, laughing as she picked up litter with her classmates. “Lily’s heart is as bright as her smile now,” her math teacher said in class. Her parents, seeing her donate old clothes to charity, hugged her tightly. Lily finally understood: true value lies not in what you have, but in what you give.
