The Great Wall — More Than Just a Wall
The Great Wall of China is one of the most famous structures in the world. It was built over 2,000 years ago, starting in the Qin Dynasty, and was continuously expanded during later dynasties, especially the Ming Dynasty. Its main purpose was to protect the country from invasions by nomadic tribes from the north. The wall stretches across mountains, deserts, and grasslands, covering a total length of about 21,000 kilometers.
In ancient times, soldiers were stationed along the wall to guard the border. They built watchtowers at regular intervals, which served as both lookout posts and signal stations. When enemies were spotted, smoke signals were sent from one watchtower to another, warning the soldiers to prepare for battle.
Today, the Great Wall is no longer used for defense, but it remains a powerful symbol of the Chinese nation. It stands for the wisdom, hard work, and determination of the ancient Chinese people. As the saying goes, “He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man.” This reflects the deep cultural meaning the wall holds in the hearts of the Chinese people.
Every year, millions of tourists from home and abroad visit the Great Wall to learn about its history and enjoy the spectacular views from the top. However, some parts of the wall are in poor condition and in need of repair. The Chinese government has made great efforts to protect this world-famous cultural heritage, because it is not just a wall, but a treasure of human civilization.

Lake Hillier—Australia’s Pink Lake
Lake Hillier is a special lake in Australia. It is famous for its bright pink color, which looks like strawberry milk. The lake is in the southwest of Australia, next to the Indian Ocean. It is about 600 meters long and 250 meters wide, but it is not very deep.
Scientists have studied the lake for many years. They are not completely sure why the lake is pink. Some think it is because of special algae and bacteria that live in the salty water. These tiny living things produce a red pigment that gives the water its unusual color. The pink color does not change even when the water is taken out of the lake, which makes it even more mysterious.
Visitors usually take a plane to see the lake from above because it is in a remote area and hard to reach by land. From the sky, you can see both the pink lake and the blue ocean. The contrast between the bright pink and the deep blue is striking. It looks like a beautiful painting created by nature. Many people come from all over the world to take photos and enjoy the amazing view.
The lake is surrounded by a white salt crust and green forest, making the scenery even more colorful. Although swimming in the lake is allowed, not many people try it because the water is very salty and the lake is difficult to reach. Lake Hillier is truly one of the most unusual and beautiful places in the world.
26.What can visitors see from the sky above Lake Hillier

A.Because the lake is in a remote area and hard to reach by land.
B.Because the plane ticket is very cheap.
C.Because they can swim in the lake after landing.
D.Because the lake can only be seen from the air.
29.What is the main idea of the third paragraph
A.The history of Lake Hillier.
B.How visitors can enjoy the view of Lake Hillier.

Sense Groups and Pauses in English
When we speak English, we don’t say all the words in a sentence without stopping. We divide sentences into smaller parts called “sense groups”. A sense group is a group of words that makes sense together. We usually pause between sense groups to make our speech clearer and easier to understand.
For example, in the sentence “The Palace Museum lies in the center of Beijing”, we can divide it into sense groups like this: “The Palace Museum / lies in the center of Beijing”. The first group tells us what we are talking about, and the second group tells us where it is.
We often use commas to show where to pause. For example: “In Paris, the capital of France, the Eiffel Tower is a popular tourist site.” We pause after “Paris” and after “France”.
Using sense groups and pauses correctly can make your English sound more natural and fluent. It also helps listeners understand you better.
66.What are sense groups
67.Why do we pause between sense groups
68.What is used to show where to pause
69.In the example, how many sense groups are there
70.What can correct pauses help you do

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.A 5.B 6.A 7.B 8.A 9.C 10.B
空格后是any difficulty任何困难,get over“克服”和difficulty构成合理搭配。get up“起床”,get on“上车”,get off“下车”,均不能和difficulty搭配。

An Amazing Place
I want to introduce an amazing place—Yangshuo. It is in the south of Guangxi, China. It is famous for its beautiful karst mountains and the Li River.
The Li River runs through the town. On both sides of the river, you can see many hills in different shapes. Some look like animals and others look like people. It is really a wonderful view. The food there is also delicious. I tried many local dishes and they were all great. In my opinion, Yangshuo is one of the most beautiful places in China.
