①Do you believe that trees can speak For a long time, people thought trees were quiet and lonely, just standing in forests year after year. In fact, there is a busy world that we can’t see under the ground. It is home to roots, fungi (真菌), and many little living things. In this secret world, trees can “talk”, “help” and even “remember” in their own ways.
②When insects (昆虫) eat a tree’s leaves, the tree gives out a kind of smell. The smell is like a warning (警告) message to tell other plants, “Be careful!” Nearby trees “hear” it and produce something to make their leaves taste bad. In this way, they protect themselves before the insects come.
③Trees also have their own “Internet” like humans. Under the ground, fungi and roots connect many trees together. This is called Wood Wide Web. Through it, trees can share food and water. A big, strong tree can help smaller or younger ones when they don’t get enough sunlight or water.
④Trees are not only helpful but also clever. They can even remember things. During a dry season, they close small holes in their leaves to keep water. When rain comes back, they still grow slowly because they remember the dry time.
⑤Forests mean a lot to the Earth. When you walk in a forest, look around and listen carefully. The trees may be quiet, but their silent world has so much friendship and teamwork.

Why do the leaves (叶子) on trees have different colors What makes them change (改变) color
Leaves use sunlight, water, and air to make food for the trees. This way of making food is photosynthesis Photosynthesis is important to animals and plants.
Summer is playtime. But for the leaves of many trees, it’s work, work, work! The sun is shining. The leaves are making food for the trees. The trees keep much food for winter. Leaves are green in summer because they are making food. Leaves also have orange, yellow, or brown colors inside them. During summer, those colors change to green colors.
Many places get cold in autumn with short days and long nights. Trees can’t get much sunlight, so photosynthesis slows down (放慢). Over time (逐渐地), leaves stop making the green chemical (化学物质). And the orange, yellow, and brown colors grow.
When it gets very cold, trees drop (落下) their leaves. They do this to keep themselves safe (安全的). If the leaves freeze (结冰) when they are on the trees, the trees can be hurt (受伤的). So many trees have no leaves in winter. They use the food they keep in summer to get through the cold days and nights.
Spring comes before long. Snow leaves and the rain comes. The sun shines, and new leaves grow from trees. The leaves use sunlight, water, and air to make food. The cycle (循环) begins again.

In spring, the mountains are like silver (银白色的) rivers under the sun. They turn green in summer with growing rice. During autumn, these mountains are gold, while in winter the mountains are full of snow. These are the colours of the Longji Rice Terraces (梯田).
The Zhuang and Yao people built the Longji Rice Terraces hundreds of years ago. But why did these people work so hard to make these terraces Firstly, there were few big, flat (平坦的) pieces of land for farming. Building terraces allows them to grow more rice. Secondly, the flat terraces can catch the rainwater on rainy days. This helps stop the soil from being washed away.
The design (设计) of the terraces is really clever. People connect these terraces with many waterways. During the rainy season, rainwater moves along these waterways from the top of the mountains down to every terrace. The sun heats the water and turns it into vapor (水蒸气). This creates clouds and then brings rain back to the terraces. These terraces also give a perfect home for birds and fish.
Now these terraces still mean a lot to the local people. People today still use the old ways to keep the terraces in good condition. Today, many visitors come to see the Longji Rice Terraces. This great wonder shows how people work together with nature.

因为“like doing sth.”
因为前文“don’t grow tall”与后文“can bloom beautifully”形成语义上的转折对比,所以选择“but”。
因为“be important to sb.”
56.eating 57.usually 58.is 59.interesting 60.on 61.their 62.the 63.When/After 64.bees 65.finding
love doing sth.
故填is。
故填on。
故填their。
故填the。
根据“we find how ugly some of our tomatoes are, we bring them to Tudela”可知,此处指发现番茄有多丑时/后,就把它们带到图德拉。 故填When/After。
