In Harbin, China, winter temperatures often drop below (低于) 20℃. Although it is really cold, many people still have fun outside. One of them is 62yearold Yu Xiaofeng. Every morning, she does something amazing — she jumps into the freezing Songhua River! The water is so cold, and most people don’t want to touch (触摸) it.
However, Yu loves swimming in it very much. Each day, she wakes up at about 5 a. m. and goes out for exercise. She swims in the cold river every morning, even when there are snowstorms.
“Getting out of bed in the dark and cold mornings is difficult,” says Yu. “But I always tell myself, ‘Keep trying!’ Winter swimming isn’t easy at my age, but I like it. This daily habit keeps me strong and healthy. I will keep on swimming,” says Yu.
Yu’s story encourages more young people to try winter sports, like skating and skiing. In Harbin, some schools also build ice rinks (溜冰场) on their playgrounds. Then students can enjoy the fun of ice and snow sports at school.

Bella has only one arm, but this doesn’t stop her from going for her dream: playing basketball.
When she was young, she dreamed of being a basketball player. So, when she was in high school, she tried to join the basketball team. But she didn’t succeed. She was very sad. However, she didn’t give up (放弃). She emailed many coaches (教练) and told them how much she wanted to play basketball.
Finally, Martin Rather, a coach from Lesley University, took notice of Bella. He asked her to join his team. Bella practised really hard. She wanted to show everyone she could play basketball just as well as other players.
Then, in a basketball game, Bella did something amazing. She became the first onearmed girl to score (得分) in the school’s women’s basketball game. Her coach was so proud of her. He stopped the game for a moment to celebrate. He said, “She made history. This is a moment we need to remember!”

Today we went on a school trip to the Yuelu Mountain.
We met at the school gate early in the morning and set off by bus. When we got there, we began to climb the mountain. Along the way, we saw beautiful flowers and green trees. Some students took photos while others talked happily. At noon, we had a picnic on the top of the mountain. We enjoyed delicious food and had great fun. Time passed quickly. In the afternoon, we went back home. I felt tired but really happy. It was a wonderful school trip for me.
