A special “telephone call” took place in a Hawaiian aquarium (水族馆): a mother dolphin
chatted with her baby while they were in separate tanks. Connected by a special underwater audio
link, the two dolphins quickly exchanged squawks and chirps(唧唧的叫声). The researcher noted
it was clear they knew who they were talking to, with information passing back and forth quickly.
This experiment is part of a broader scientific effort to find out the secret of dolphin
communication worldwide. As mammals (哺乳动物), dolphins are smart and social, working as a
team to complete tasks. Their need for complex communication seems natural. “From birth, they
produce many different kinds of sounds like squawks, whistles, clicks, and squeaks. Sometimes
one dolphin will vocalize (用言语表达) and then another will seem to answer,” says researcher
Sara Waller. Just as humans use gestures (手 势 ), dolphins also communicate through body
language, such as jaw claps, bubble blowing, and fin touches.
Scientists think dolphins “talk” about everything, from basic facts like their age to their
emotional state. “I guess that they say things like ‘Good fish are over here,’ or ‘Watch out for
that shark because he’s hunting,’” says dolphin expert Denise Herzing. When meeting danger,
some dolphins call for help. For example, after one spotted dolphin was bullied, it returned the
next day with friends to run after and drive off the bully bottlenose dolphins, showing that it
communicated the problem and led the group.
Although experts have listened to dolphins for more than 17 years, they are still far from
speaking“dolphin”yet. Part of the reason is the elusiveness (飘忽不定) of the animals. Dolphins
are very fast swimmers that can stay underwater for long periods. To understand “dolphin speak”
is also difficult because their language is so dependent on what they’re doing, whether they’re
playing, fighting, or going after tasty fish. During fights, for example, dolphins clap their jaws to
say “Back off!” But they clap their jaws while playing too, as if to show who’s the king of the
underwater playground.
29.How did the dolphins chat with each other in the Hawaiian aquarium
A.Through a special underwater audio link.B.By swimming to the surface and shouting.
C.Through a special computer and speaker.D.By using their own body language only.
30.Why does the writer mention the story of the spotted dolphin in Paragraph 3
A.To show that dolphins are the smartest animal in the ocean.
B.To show that dolphins are easy to get angry and like to attack.
C.To show how dolphins work together to find food in the ocean.
D.To show an example of dolphins’ communication and teamwork.
31.Which of the following is the best title for this passage
A.Mammals of the Ocean—Dolphins B.Mother Dolphin’s Touching Story

C.The Colorful Social Life of Dolphins D.Discovering the Secret of Dolphin Talk
Grown-ups (成年人) never understand anything on their own, and it is tiring for children to
be always and forever explaining things to them. So then I chose another job and learned to fly
airplanes. I lived my life alone, without anyone that I could really talk to, until I had an accident
with my plane in the desert of Sahara six years ago. Something was wrong with my plane. As I
had nobody else with me, I decided to try the difficult repairs all alone.
The first night, I went to sleep on the sand, a thousand miles from humans’ living places. I
felt quite lonely. You can imagine my surprise, at sunrise, when I was awakened by a strange little
voice. It said, “If you please, draw me a sheep!”
“ What ” I shouted, jumping to my feet, completely surprised. I looked carefully all
around me. I saw a most special small person, who stood there, looking at me seriously. He was
hardly taller than a rosebush.
Before I could speak, he repeated, “Draw me a sheep!”
I had never drawn a sheep before, but I was so surprised and lonely that I did as he asked. I
drew a simple sheep, but he shook (摇动) his head,“No, that one is sickly. Make another.”I tried
again, but he said, “This one has too many horns (角). It’s not what I want.” I drew a third, and
a fourth, until I grew tired. “I don’t know how to draw sheep any more,” I said, handing him a
piece of paper with nothing on it. “Here’s a box. The sheep you want is inside it.”
To my surprise, his face lit up, “That’s just what I need! Does it eat a lot of grass ”
“Of course. Why do you ask ”
“Because where I live, everything is very small. I need a sheep that won’t eat all my
roses.”
Roses. The word made me think of the time I was six years old. I found a book named True
Stories from Nature, and there was a picture of a huge snake swallowing(吞咽)an elephant. I
showed it to grown-ups and asked if it made them scared. They said, “Why would a hat make us
scared ” I explained it wasn’t a hat—it was a huge snake with an elephant inside. But they told
me to stop talking about snakes and elephants. They said I should focus on my spelling and
arithmetic (算术). That’s when I realized grown-ups never see the true meaning of things. I put
away my drawing and decided not to explain anything to them any more.
The little prince pulled me back to the present, “Will you promise the sheep won’t eat my
roses ”
“I promise,” I said. And in that moment, I knew I had finally found someone I could talk
to.
—Adapted from The Little Prince

a. having an accident with the plane
b. meeting the little prince in the desert
c. sleeping on the sand and feeling lonely
d. handing him a piece of paper with nothing on it
A.acbd B.acdb C.abcd D.abdc

A.Because the little prince was good at drawing.
B.Because the little prince could understand him.
C.Because the little prince also liked small animals.
D.Because the little prince lived in a place with roses.
35.What can we infer from the writer’s experience with grown-ups when he was six
A.Grown-ups were better at understanding the true meaning of the picture.

A 25.C
第二段提到“Sometimes, I felt people secretly looking at my face”(我总觉得有人偷偷看我的
脸),第四段新同学直接点明“You have a red rose on your face”,直接佐证胎记的位置是脸
部。arm(胳膊)、leg(腿),后文完全没有提及肢体相关的线索,和“看脸”的细节矛盾;
件事当作玩笑的情绪基础;plan(计划):语义完全不通,拥挤的车厢不可能是“一个计划”;
serious(严肃的):语境没有任何线索说明作
Sadly
Since(自从/因为):引导时间或
size(尺寸):没有线索描
