Yang Zhenning was born in Anhui in 1922. He was one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century. From a young age, he was very interested in science and studied hard when he was at school.
After studying at Tsinghua University, Yang went to the US to learn more. Yang and Tsung Dao Lee did important and new work on parity non conservation (宇称不守恒). This great achievement won them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957. Yang was also the first Chinese person to get this big honor. He also created the Yang Mills theory—it’s a key part of modern physics.
In his later years, Yang went back to China and focused all his energy on education. He taught at Tsinghua University and helped train many young talented people. He also acted as a bridge for study exchanges between China and the United States. Yang passed away in 2025 at the age of 103, leaving behind something that will be remembered for a long time.
