Fish babies in space What surprising news! In a space study on zebrafish(斑马鱼), Chinese scientists have set a new record. They successfully got the four zebrafish to live and grow healthily in a closed water world.
__①__ The zebrafish went to China’s space station on the Shenzhou XVIII spaceship on April 25. Since then, they have been living in a closed fish tank (缸) with some plants. The fish grew up and had babies in 43 days. It means that the fish completed a whole life stage, from growth to development and giving babies.
__②__ In their special closed environment, the plants made air for the fish and the fish’s waste gave the plants food. The scientists gave the fish food through a special needle (针管).
__③__ Such a closed environment is important for future studies in space. It means that plants and animals can live in space more easily.
__④__ For example, they often swam on their back in space. The low gravity (重力) in space is a big reason. However, on the Earth, gravity pulls everything to Earth’s center, and animals can find their way easily. Gravity also makes their bodies work harder and become stronger.
It isn’t the first time fish have been sent to space. Zebrafish were earlier sent to space station in 1976. Why do scientists choose zebrafish Humans and zebrafish share 70 percent of the same genes (基因). So the new finding will help scientists better understand human health and human diseases.

Billy always loved blueberries. Today he was going to make juice with his uncle. His uncle liked to make juice out of everything. He made carrot juice, apple juice, vegetable juice, and more kinds of juices. He’d never made blueberry juice before.
First, Billy and his uncle went to a blueberry farm. They picked for an hour and got some blueberries. It was hard to pick the little berries from the trees. Now Billy understood why they are expensive in stores.
Next, they had to wash the berries and dry them. After that, they put the berries into the blender and then turned on the blender. When the blueberries turned into dark purple juice, they turned off the blender and poured the juice into a pot.
When they tasted the juice, they could really taste the blueberries. But it wasn’t very sweet. They added grape juice to the blueberry juice. Billy’s uncle didn’t want to add white sugar from a bag to the blueberry juice. It was better to use a naturally sweet juice, like apple juice, pear juice, or grape juice. They used grape juice, because the grapes had a similar color to the blueberries.
Finally, they could drink it. It was a lot of work to make the juice, but it tasted so nice!

“How was your weekend ” “Did you see the game on TV last night ” “Isn’t the weather beautiful today ” These questions and the answers to them are examples of “small talk” — the short, friendly conversations that people have with friends and parents.
Some people don’t want to make small talk at work. They think they shouldn’t talk about things that have nothing to do with their job, or their partners will think they aren’t serious about their work. And others might not enjoy small talk about themselves.
But small talk is important. It can help you a lot. It shows you’re friendly and care about your partners. You become a better team member. If not, others might feel uncomfortable around you and think you’re unfriendly. Peter Harper, a manager at the Apex Company in the USA, says, “We always look for friendly workers who know how to talk with each other and our customers (顾客).”
Here is some advice for successful small talk. You can talk about the weather, news, hobbies, TV programs and famous people like movie stars, singers, etc. You can also share something about your family such as birthday parties and other family events, but don’t share very personal information like family problems. Remember not to talk about money, age and so on.
Listening is an important part of small talk. Listen carefully to others and ask questions. Don’t just talk about yourself. And remember to smile. Making small talk takes practice. The more you do it, the better you’ll be at making small talk!
( )70. What’s Para. 2 mainly about
A. Why some people don’t make small talk.
B. How to start small talk.
C. Why some people don’t believe their partners.
D. How to be serious about work.
( )71. What Peter Harper said shows ______.
A. most customers don’t like small talk
B. good listeners don’t need to ask questions
C. small talk helps you to be a good worker
D. you can practice small talk with customers
( )72. According to the passage, which of the following is OK for small talk
A. “How old are you ”
B. “Who’s your favorite actor ”
C. “Why did your parents fight yesterday ”
D. “How much money do you make each month ”

When my daughter was in primary school, she brought four small twigs to (树枝) home one day. Her teacher gave these twigs to the students to grow. My husband and I grew them outside our house with my daughter. However, three of them died. Only one still grew but it didn’t grow very tall.
A few years later, I saw the only twig started to die. The lower branches (树枝) became poor. Only the top was still green. I did my best to save it, but it didn’t work.
Later one morning, I went out and looked at it again. I wondered if it would be better to just cut it down. However, I saw something moving on the branches. It was a robin (知更鸟) building its home there! I was surprised when I looked at it. I thought maybe this tree was still useful. It might not be healthy or beautiful, but it still gave a bird a home. It made me know that nothing is meaningless. It doesn’t matter if we are young or old. Until we die, we still have things to do, love to give, and joy to share.

X. 范文:
Dear Editor,
With the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence, many new occupations have emerged, such as drone pilots, data engineers, robot coaches and space chefs.
I believe that in the future, people will only need to work at home for one hour a day, because other work will be done by robots. So we will have more time to travel to relax ourselves. We will also have more time to spend with our family. In order to adapt to these, we should now actively exercise our bodies and work hard to learn the relevant knowledge of AI. At the same time, we should improve our relationship with our family and friends.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
