六、阅读表达(共 5 小题; 每小题 2分, 满分10分)
根据短文内容回答下列问题,1—4题每题答案不超过6个单词。
Understanding Word Stress
Word stress is an important part of English pronunciation. In English, every word with more than one syllable has one syllable that is stressed. A stressed syllable is pronounced louder, longer, and higher in pitch than the other syllables in the word.
For example, the word “teacher” has two syllables: tea-cher. The first syllable “tea” is stressed. So we say “TEACH-er”. The word “today” has two syllables: to-day. The second syllable “day” is stressed. So we say “to-DAY”.
Word stress can also change the meaning of a word. For example, “record” can be a noun or a verb. When we say “RE-cord” with stress on the first syllable, it is a noun meaning something you keep information on. When we say “re-CORD” with stress on the second syllable, it is a verb meaning to store information.
Learning word stress can help you speak English more clearly. It can also help you understand native speakers better. You can practice by listening to recordings and repeating the words with the correct stress. Pay attention to which syllable is stressed.
66.What is word stress
67.How is a stressed syllable pronounced
