From fitness tracking to sustainable fashion and home appliances, innovative products are changing the way we live. Here are three newly-launched items that combine smart technology with everyday practicality.
ON TRACK
Screenless fitness trackers are the new trend in wearable workout gear. The first new Fitbit since 2023 enters that market, which competitors like Whoop and Oura have muscled into in recent years. The Fitbit Air is considerably cheaper than those options, and integrates with Google's updated Health app. The tracker covers basic metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen and motion data during activity and sleep. All data is processed in the app, with an AI coach available for an additional $7.99 per month.

GOOD TIMING
If time is running out to meaningfully slow down climate change, here's a watch to both monitor the countdown and also feel slightly better about it. Detrash is a British watchmaking brand using recycled ocean plastics, steel and fashion industry offcuts (边角料) to create its timepieces. The watches — from dress to dive styles — come in at under 500. Most lines are limited editions, so if you see one you like, time is probably running out.

PLASTIC PROGRESS
Up to 500,000 tonnes of textile microplastics enter the oceans every year, much from washing machines. Now, effective microplastic filters (过滤器) are being introduced, including a 2025 Moonshot Prize winner. Developed by Bristol-based Matter, the Regen filter can be built into machines or bought separately and installed (安装) at home. The company claims 97% effectiveness. It needs emptying every six weeks, with no replacement filters required.

Martha Siede, who has lived with dystonic cerebral palsy (肌张力障碍型脑瘫) just since she was born, shares her powerful story in the book In Pursuit of "Normal". As a disabled reader, I was delighted, relieved, and lit up with encouragement and connection while reading this book.
I especially appreciated the way Martha lays out our struggles frankly because of how frequently we encounter them. "The hospital is where you would think disabilities would be comfortable and accepted," she writes, "but it does not work. It is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole." Martha's experiences reflected my own frustration there: narrow doorways and crowded spaces that were difficult for me to navigate.
Throughout each stage of her life, Martha excels in fair, inclusive environments and struggles greatly otherwise. My preferred adaptation explored in this book is that of clothing companies who advertise by using photos in which models are seated so that wheelchair users can picture how it will look on their bodies.
Martha makes a clear, easy-to-follow distinction between when she gets the kind of support that makes her life more equal, and when she does not. Recounting these hardships never feels like a lecture or a reframing of history. Instead, Martha has written something that feels honest and strikes a balance between serious health concerns and conversations where she's direct about some tough topics. This tone is very true to my experience of living with depression and disability.
This book will guide not only disabled people but also their caregivers. A lot of valuable advice and life lessons can be learned from this book. Her candid account of struggles and achievements makes her story a source of inspiration for others, showing that anything is possible with a sense of humor and determination. It's not just a tale of survival; it's a testament (证明) to her strength and resolve.
24. Why does the author quote Martha's words in paragraph 2
A. To arouse readers' care for the disabled.
B. To reveal the poor service of the hospital.
C. To explain the cause of Martha's frustration.
D. To demonstrate one issue faced by the disabled.
25. What's the author's attitude towards using photos of seated models
A. Suspicious. B. Dismissive. C. Favorable. D. Indifferent.
26. What does the author think of In Pursuit of "Normal"
A. It is boring but practical. B. It is classic and moving.
C. It is abstract but engaging.
D. It is inspiring and influential.
27. What is the purpose of the text
A. To introduce a disabled writer. B. To provide inspiration for writers.
C. To recommend a meaningful book. D. To stress the power of determination.

Insects, with their tiny brains, exhibit remarkable navigation abilities. They can find their way through complex environments and even detect small openings to pass through. This phenomenon has sparked the interest of researchers, particularly in the field of computing, where efficiency is a priority. A team led by biologist Dr. Maria Fernández at the University of Cambridge has recently made significant advances in understanding how insects achieve this, and they have applied their findings to develop a bio-inspired navigation system for robots.
One of the key factors in insect navigation is the way they process visual information. "When you're driving a car, the objects closer to you seem to move faster than those farther away," explains Dr. Fernández. Insects use this principle to measure distances and navigate effectively. However, the real world is not a straight line, and insects often need to make rapid adjustments to their paths to avoid obstacles or find food. To handle this complexity, they employ a series of simple, yet effective, strategies.
Dr. Fernández's team, including PhD student Alex Johnson, developed a neural (神经系统的) model that mimics (模仿) the insect brain's activity. The model is based on the principle of minimizing the apparent motion of the environment. "We programmed the robot to always move towards the area where the visual motion is least," says Johnson. "This simple rule allows the robot to center itself in narrow passages and navigate through them with minimal computational effort." In various virtual environments, the robot demonstrated behavior similar to that of insects, successfully finding and passing through small openings.
The researchers believe that this finding could have significant implications for the development of energy-efficient computing. "By designing specific hardware that replicates (复制) these simple neural mechanisms," Dr. Fernández explains, "we can create more efficient and compact computing systems. This approach could lead to significant advancements in robotics, sensor technology, and even mobile devices."
In the future, Dr. Fernández aims to apply these insect navigation principles to the design of specialized chips. "These chips would be much smaller and consume less power than current general-purpose processors. This could revolutionize how we build and use computing devices in a wide range of applications," she comments.
28. How does insect navigation research drive technological innovation
A. By developing new types of robots. B. By understanding insects' navigation ability.
C. By improving general-purpose processors. D. By creating virtual environments for testing.
29. Why is "driving a car" mentioned in paragraph 2
A. To demonstrate the principle of car motion.
B. To emphasize the limitations of human vision.
C. To interpret how insects perceive distances.
D. To compare the movement of different objects.
30. How do insects use visual information to navigate
A. By detecting the fastest-moving objects. B. By judging the smallest relative motion.
C. By following a straight path at all times. D. By memorizing the locations of obstacles.
31. What is the future goal of the research
A. Designing insect-inspired smart chips. B. Researching general-purpose robots.
C. Developing sensors that save energy. D. Building computers inspired by insects.

New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the "mobile" phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us
Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you're awesome at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet.
The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parent it might be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting. And for the clinician, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ attempts to quantify (量化) our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and capitalize on (利用) future creations. This adoption is critical from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the dynamics of AI and search are changing for just about everyone.
Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in projecting the potential for a child's success. But what about technology The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a defining aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smart phones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to incorporate technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it.
While this shift brings challenges, it's unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn — turning adaptability with tech into a measurable edge.
32. What is TQ according to the text
A. Ability to apply new technologies. B. Skill of fixing high-tech products.
C. Talent to follow modern changes. D. Speed of learning new languages.
33. Which of the following people has a high TQ
A. A manager who often uses modern search engines.
B. A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance.
C. A grandparent who finds new tech devices awkward.
D. A mom who watches videos of her child's school life.
34. What does the underlined word "assimilate" in paragraph 4 mean
A. Rely on. B. Turn down. C. Contribute to. D. Take in.
35. What might be the best title for the passage
A. Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ B. How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era
C. What Makes TQ the New Intelligence D. Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes

Nowadays, many people have trouble sleeping. According to a study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, nearly 40% of people in 13 countries reported sleep problems over the past two years. As we age, sleeping becomes even harder. 36 Waking up at night is normal, especially when getting older, but bad news can keep your mind active and make it difficult to fall back asleep. Simple actions like keeping your bedroom between 15.5 and 19.5 degrees Celsius and avoiding screens 30 minutes before bed can help. Here are four more useful tips.
Test your pillow.
A pillow bought in 2020 is already too old. Experts say pillows should be changed every one to two years. 37 According to Dr. Michael J. Breus, when the brain feels pain, it cannot send sleep signals.
Get enough sunlight.
Morning sunlight is key to good sleep. It stops melatonin (褪黑素) production in your brain, helping you feel less sleepy in the morning. It also helps your brain produce melatonin later at night. Try to get 15-30 minutes of morning sun, plus two 15-minute outdoor breaks during the day. 38
39
Eating salty snacks like potato chips can cause nighttime trips to the bathroom. A Japanese study found that when people reduced salt, their bathroom visits dropped from twice a night to once. More salt meant more wake-ups. According to Dr. Rafael Pelayo, these trips make it hard to fall back asleep, leading to tiredness and even depression.
Solve problems before dinner.
40 Talk earlier. Dr. Ashley Mason suggests working things out right before dinner. Arguments after dinner can continue until bedtime, activating your nervous system and disturbing sleep. Going to bed angry may even make you feel worse the next morning.
A. Opening curtains also helps.
B. Avoid salty snacks before bed.
C. Eat a light meal two hours before bedtime.
D. A new pillow never causes any neck or shoulder pain.
E. By 60, people tend to wake up more often and get less sleep.
F. Don't wait until night to discuss difficult issues with your partner.
G. An old pillow can cause neck and shoulder pain, leading to poor sleep.

In the spring sun, my aunt and I headed for her flower shop. Normally I would be delighted to help in her shop, but not recently because of Rosa. Rosa was my sister, just one month old, who was settled in my old bedroom. For ten years, the small room was full of my toys and books. But now it was transformed into her baby room, decorated like a garden with pinks and yellows. My space, my old life, was gone.
"Here we are!" We arrived at the shop, a wave of colour and sweet smell washing over me. My aunt said I could pick some flowers for Mum and Dad. I used to love this, but today I was so overcome with tiredness and envy. Why bother to bring them flowers when they were enjoying Rosa at home without me
Silently I helped my aunt arrange flowers. "Your mum told me there hasn't been much shut eye recently for any of you." "Not much, since Rosa the alarm clock was installed (安装)." I complained with a huge yawn (哈欠).
"I remember having to creep (蹑手蹑脚地走) around like a worn-out mouse when your mum was a baby. I spent the first months hating her so much." "But you and Mum seem so close," I said, guiltily hiding away my envy of Rosa.
"Now we are. But it took me years to grow into the role of big sister. Few flowers blossom (绽放) overnight, you know." She pulled me in for aside hug, glancing up at the clock, and suggested I take a walk outside.
Behind her shop was a field dotted with spring flowers. Stepping into the field, I began to pick little flowers. It was like gathering my childhood memories. I remembered how I'd sit with Dad, making flower chains, crowning (授予) each other with the silliest titles: Queen of Junk Food and King of Mess. My smile grew wider. The shining yellow flowers reminded me of the color in Rosa's baby room. Was she awake I wondered.

A Possible Version
With academic pressure growing for us students and AI becoming increasingly accessible, many of us are turning to technology for an efficient learning companion. Yet what I truly long for is an AI partner with a lovely appearance and practical functions.
My ideal AI learning partner is a palm-sized robot sitting quietly on my desk. It features a soft-white shell, big warm eyes and a small chest screen. When stress strikes, it offers gentle comfort and workable study plans. Functionally, it analyzes my mistakes with vivid examples and generates quizzes from my error records. It helps polish my writing, correct my pronunciation and tailor learning schedules for me. Instead of giving direct answers, it inspires independent thinking.
Such is my ideal AI learning partner, who would fuel my growth as a reliable helper.
第二节 (满分25分)
One Possible Version
Suddenly I saw two familiar figures walking towards me. “Look who’s here!” my dad exclaimed with a smile, holding Rosa with a baby basket. The yellow flowers in my hand seemed to glow even brighter as I gazed at the beautiful little girl. I couldn’t help recalling what my aunt told me. I knew that it would take time for me to adjust to sharing my parents’ attention and my old room, but I was determined to be the best big sister I could be. Then I carefully arranged the yellow flowers into a small bouquet and handed it to my mom with a smile. “These are for you and Dad, and also for Rosa,” I said, feeling the warmth in my chest that had been missing earlier.
Rosa was wide awake in her baby basket beside the picnic blanket. Her big blue eyes were open, taking in the world around her. As I watched my little sister, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and amazement at how perfect she was. I gently picked her up and held her close, feeling her warmth and breathing in the sweet scent of her hair. I knew that from now on, my life would never be the same. I would no longer be the center of attention, and I would have to share my parents with this beautiful little creature. But as I looked into Rosa’s eyes, I knew that it was all worth it. She was my family, and I loved her more than anything in the world.

W: I’ve been thinking a lot about our living situation lately. Kids need some personal space, and my working from home has made it even harder to find a quiet corner.
M: I also find it necessary. I looked at some listings online last night. There are a few bigger houses still within our budget. I haven’t decided yet, as I worry about the longer travel time if we move farther from the city center.
W: It’s not a problem if it’s close to public transport. I just care about the kids’ new schools.
M: I looked into that as well. The nearby schools actually have newer facilities and smaller class sizes. Kids are easy to adapt to a new place and will make more friends soon. I really think staying here may limit the kids’ growth.

W: Welcome to the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Let me share some interesting and useful details with you.
First, the best time to visit here is definitely spring, when all kinds of flowers are in full bloom and the trees turn green. The garden has many beautiful spots worth seeing. The Guilfoyle’s Volcano and the Desert Garden are always crowded with visitors, but the Rose Garden enjoys the highest popularity, drawing lots of photographers and lovers of nature. Visitors can join various activities here. On weekdays, we offer free guided tours to tell you about the garden’s 180-year history and the stories behind each old tree. On weekends, we hold wonderful flower shows with rare plants from all over the country. I have some brochures here with all the activity schedules and route maps. I’ll hand them out to you now, and then we’ll begin our pleasant tour.
