2a Write the jobs based on the definitions. Then add more for your partner to guess.（课本 p.58）

（二）Step 2 2b 造句与 2c 短文填空

短文：I still remember how disappointed I was when I ①___________ my maths exam for the first time. Mr Guo found me crying in the classroom after school. He said to me, “Don't give up. Keep working hard and ②___________ again in the next exam.” I promised him that I would not lose hope. After that, Mr Guo often spared some time to help me. Whenever I found something I didn't understand, he was always happy to ③___________ it. With his help, my maths skills started to improve. （三）Step 3 3a 读 New Year, New Me
3a Read the text and complete the table.（课本 p.59）
课文原文（课本 p.59 逐字）：
New Year, New Me——As the year draws to a close, it is the perfect time to think about the changes we want to make in the coming new year. We can improve our lives by learning something new, forming good habits, working harder at something, or even improving our relationships with others. I hope to make next year better than this one, so I am going to make three resolutions.
The first one is about taking up a new hobby. I am going to join the school music club to improve my singing! I think singing is a great activity. And my friends and family all love my singing.
I am also going to get fitter. Besides jogging, I am going to do push-ups and sit-ups. I feel energetic after I exercise. I'm sure I'm going to be a healthier and happier person.
Last but not least, my English isn't good enough, so I am going to study for two more hours each weekend. It might be hard, but I am going to get a lot better at English!

思路点拨： besides jogging 除慢跑外还有——besides 表“除……之外还有”，与 except（除去）不同。
（四）Step 4 3b-3c 写“我的新年决心”
3b Write down the things you want to improve and your resolutions.（课本 p.59）范例：tennis skills—Practise three times a week and find partners. / spoken English—Watch English-speaking TV shows without subtitles. / cooking—Try more recipes.
3c Use the notes above to write three paragraphs. In each paragraph, write what you are going to improve and how.（课本 p.59）
范文：My first resolution is to improve my tennis skills. I fell in love with this sport in October when I watched a professional match. After that I took a few tennis lessons, but I still can't consistently hit the ball. Next year, I will practise three times a week, aiming to master basic forehand and backhand techniques. I'll also try to find more tennis partners for regular practice.
My second resolution is to improve my spoken English. While my reading and writing skills are good, speaking is still my weakness. I have decided to watch more English-speaking TV shows without subtitles. Though challenging, this will help me learn more about natural speech.
My third resolution is to improve my cooking. In Unit 3, I learned about some simple dishes and successfully cooked them myself. I have more confidence in cooking now. I plan to try more recipes, especially my favourites: steak and chocolate cake.
延伸任务：Make a resolution poster. Write your goal and ways to keep it in English, and share it with your classmates.

易错提醒
注意：fail an exam 考试不及格；fail to do sth 未能做某事——fail 后可直接接考试，接动作需加 to do。
注意：draw to a close 即将结束——as the year draws to a close 岁末年终，固定搭配。
注意：写决心全文用第一人称+be going to，不要混入 will 与过去时；each weekend 与 every weekend 同义。
注意：confident 形容词（be confident in）/ confidence 名词（have confidence in）——介词搭配相同，词性不同。
答题技巧
定义猜词抓动词短语：put out fires→消防员、designs clothes→服装设计师、advice about the law→律师。
②在祈使句里对“你”说话用 try your best；④keep on 后接动名词 practising。
三个决心都按“总起句+具体打算+期望”展开——仿写时每段都这样搭。
三个决心按“爱好→健康→学习”排序，最后一个用 Last but not least 引出更出彩。
第 3 题空格前有定冠词 the，需填名词 confidence 而非形容词 confident。
语言点归纳
决心短文三段式：开头总起（As the year draws to a close, ... I am going to make three resolutions.）→分述（The first one is about ... / I am also going to ... / Last but not least, ...）→结尾期望；
每段结构：improve 什么+具体打算（be going to do）+期望（I'm sure I'm going to ...）；
高频表达：take up a new hobby / get fitter / feel energetic / last but not least / a lot better。
