Discuss the ways for you to learn other school subjects actively.
A: Hi, welcome back to A‘s Podcast. Today’s guest is B. He‘s here to share some ideas on how to learn
maths actively.
B: Hi, A. Thanks for having me! When it comes to maths, I think the key is to become an active
problem-solver, not just a passive listener.
A: What do you mean by “active”
B: Well, many students just watch the teacher solve problems on the board. That‘spassive. To learn actively,
you need to get your hands dirty. For example, instead of just reading for mulas, I try to explain the
concepts to myself or even to my rubber duck!
A: A rubber duck That‘s interesting!
B: Yes! It forces you to organize your thoughts clearly. Also, I don’t just do theexercises in the textbook.
I ask “what if” questions-like, “What if I change this number Will the method still work "
A: So, you're not just memorizing steps. You're actually exploring the logic.
B: Exactly! And when I get stuck, I don‘t just wait for the teacher. I try to draw diagrams or teach the
problem backwards to find where I got lost. It might sound slow, but it helps me truly understand.
A: That makes sense. It's not about spending more time staring at the page, but spending time thinking
with the pencil.
B: You got it! Start with simple problems to build confidence, then challenge yourself step by step.
A: Great advice,
B: Thanks for sharing!
