Imagine a writer who described the times with nothing but words. That was Mao Dun (1896—1981), one of China’s greatest modern writers. Born as Shen Yanbing in Zhejiang, he later chose the pen name “Mao Dun”. With the help of his friend Ye Shengtao, this name became famous.
So what powers Mao Dun’s writing His masterpiece Midnight (Ziye), published in 1933, gives us the answer. The story takes place in busy Shanghai. It follows Wu Sunfu, a factory owner who fights against foreign competitors and dishonest officers. Through Wu’s sad story, Mao Dun showed the real problems China faced in the 1930s. The book was so popular that critics (评论家) called 1933 “the year of Midnight”.
Mao Dun could write about more than just cities. His Rural Trilogy (农村三部曲)—Spring Silkworms, Autumn Harvests, Winter Ruins—voiced the feelings of poor farmers. In these stories, good harvests (收成) sometimes bring disaster. This shows how big world events could shake even the smallest Chinese villages. Mao Dun could move easily from writing about business offices to farming fields. You can feel his deep care for common people on every page. But his real gift was his realistic writing style. With this ability, he recorded social changes so clearly that his books are like history and literature joined as one. Readers can almost see and feel the time periods he wrote about.
As we near his 130th birthday in 2026, Mao Dun’s works still speak to us today. They remind us that great writing is more than just for fun—it helps us see the world more clearly. For young readers today, his books open a window to China’s past and encourage us to value our own literary treasures.

29.Which is closest to the underlined word “powers” in meaning in Paragraph 2

Glasses are very useful for many people, helping them see clearly. But their history is quite interesting. Let’s explore it.
The earliest glasses were invented in Italy around the 13th century. At first, they were only used by scholars and rich people because they were very expensive. These early glasses didn’t have temples (the parts that go over the ears); people had to hold them in front of their eyes or put them on their noses.
In the 18th century, Benjamin Franklin invented bifocal glasses. They have two parts: one for seeing far and one for seeing near, which was a great help for people with both nearsightedness and farsightedness. Later, in the 20th century, plastic lenses were invented, making glasses lighter and more comfortable.
Now, glasses are not only a tool for vision correction but also a fashion accessory. There are many styles, colors, and materials. Some people even wear non-prescription glasses just for their appearance.
32.When were the earliest glasses invented
A.In the 12th century B.In the 13th century C.In the 14th century
33.Why were early glasses only used by scholars and rich people

According to experts, over 22,000 plastic bottles are thrown away every second, and the number is still growing. 41 a small part of them get recycled, most end up in the ocean. There, they break up into small pieces. Fish and birds often think of them 42 food by mistake, which is dangerous for them.
Now, Robert has 43 up with an idea that may not solve the world’s plastic problems, but will at least make progress and hopefully inspire (鼓舞) others. He plans to use the plastic bottles to build a village in the forest of Bocas Del Toro, Panama.
Robert is a Canadian businessman. He has been living in the central American country for many years. He started Bocas Del Toro’s 44 project in 2012, after noticing plastic waste being 45 thrown away on the island’s beautiful beaches. During one year and a half, Robert and his volunteers collected over a million plastic bottles!
In 2015, he had the idea of using the 46 to build houses, and then the Plastic Bottle Village was born. The project is on an island in the Bocas Del Toro. It’s still in its beginning. So far, they have 47 only a number of houses. But if Robert has his way (如愿以偿), there will soon be a special community, and 90 to 120 48 will live in the Plastic Bottle Village.
If he can raise enough money, Robert also plans to build an education center with student dormitories (宿舍). He wants 49 to learn how to use the plastic waste.
Recycling plastic bottles is 50 in cutting down the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans each year, but the smartest thing to do is to avoid them completely. So do your part.

41.B 42.A 43.C 44.B 45.C 46.A 47.B 48.C 49.C 50.A
排除to“到”和for“为了”。
根据空后的“an idea”可知,此处考查固定短语“come up with”,意为“想出”。
根据“live in the Plastic Bottle Village”可知,居住的主体是“家庭”,families“家庭”符合社区居住逻辑。
根据“cutting down the amount of plastic”可知,回收对减少污染是“有帮助的”。
It tastes like a tomato, smells like a tomato and even looks like a tomato. There’s just one question: It’s purple. This new purple tomato could soon 51 (sell) in the US.
A team of scientists, including Dr. Cathie Martin, developed the special kind of tomato by making changes to its DNA.Though the color is unusual, they have much 52 (great) antioxidants than normal tomatoes.
句中有“than”表示比较,“much”可以修饰比较级,great的比较级是greater。
test sth on...
a piece of news为固定搭配,表示“一条消息”,“good”以辅音音素开头,用不定冠词a。
“so far”是现在完成时标志词,主语为“they”,助动词用have,plan的过去分词planned,表示“计划”。

A.Still valuable.

Later, in the 20th century, plastic lenses were invented, making glasses lighter and more comfortable.
