Dear Jack,
I’m sorry to hear you have trouble remembering English words. Here is my advice.
First, draw mind maps to connect new words with topics—your brain remembers connections better than simple single lists. Second, turn hard words into short rhymes or songs; rhythm helps memory stick for a longer time. Third, review regularly: read them 20 minutes after learning, then again next morning—“use it or lose it”. Also, use your senses: write words by hand and say them aloud.
As long as you try these carefully and never give up, you’ll see amazing progress before long.
Yours,

How funny would it be to see memes (表情包) in our textbooks Fourteen high school students have made it come true. They wrote a set of creative textbooks that include five subjects: Chinese, English, maths, chemistry and physics. They share their notes and experiences to help you prepare for high school entrance exams. You can see funny memes almost everywhere in their textbooks. The language they use is not too serious. Each textbook has its own style, too. The English textbook introduces movies, TV series and so on. The chemistry textbook has wuxia characters. There is a boy named Shangguan Huaxue in the book. He meets a girl and they learn chemistry together. It has ancient poems and wuxia-style descriptions. Yan Zuhuai, a 15-year-old top student at Chengdu No. 7 High School, is the textbooks’ editor-in-chief (主编). He got the idea to create the books in June. “Many underclassmen wanted me to share my notes with them. When I saw people sharing bikes, I thought I could share knowledge as well,” Yan said. But when he put all of his notes together, he found them boring. Realizing that his classmates enjoy online novels and memes, he decided to add these things and invited 13 students to join him in creating them. Their first drafts (草稿) came out in August. Students and teachers praised them. But Yan felt the books needed to be improved. In October, he and his team learned how to use the design software to improve the books. The final versions came out at the end of December in 2018.

Do you think you have a good memory It is difficult to say exactly what memory is. Even scientists who have been studying memory for many years say that they are still trying to find out what it is. We do know that memory is not just one thing stored (存储) somewhere in the brain. Memory is made up of small pieces of information stored all over the brain.
The human brain is very small and light. But it needs about 20% of the oxygen that our body takes in. We can’t think well if our brain isn’t getting enough oxygen, so always make sure there is enough oxygen in the air when you need to learn or remember something!
Why do you forget things sometimes The main reason for forgetting something is that you did not learn it well enough in the beginning. For example, if you meet some new people and right away forget their names, it is because you didn’t record the names when you heard them.
No one can remember everything, but everyone can learn how to improve their memory. Here are some ways:
·When you want to remember something, tell a friend about it. This way the new information becomes more memorable. Later on, think about the conversation with your friend. It will help you remember the information.
·Don’t over-train your brain. When you’ve remembered a list of new vocabulary, stop studying. It’s better to study a lot of material for a short time than a small part of material for a lot of time! But remember: you do have to practise your new vocabulary as soon as possible!
·If you want to remember big things, break them down into smaller parts. It’s easier to remember 764598304126 if you break it into four smaller bits: 764-598-304-126.
·If you want to remember a piece of information, but you can’t, don’t get angry. Relax when you study! Try to enjoy yourself. You are learning new things every minute. You will remember better if you are happy and relaxed.
In short, none of the ways can make your memory 100% perfect, but all of them are helpful.
19.Where is memory stored in your brain
A.In the left brain. B.All over the brain.
C.In the right brain. D.Some parts of the brain.
20.What can you do to improve your memory according to the passage
①Be relaxed when you study.
②Over-train your brain.
③Break the things down into smaller parts.
④Talk with your friends about the things you want to remember.
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.①③④ D.①②④
21.According to the passage, the writer probably agrees with ________.
A.learning at least 100 new words at a time
B.remembering long numbers by writing
C.getting angry when you can’t remember some information
D.getting enough oxygen when you remember things
22.What does the writer mainly talk about in the passage
A.What the human brain is and where the memory is stored.
B.When we think well and how we remember everything.
C.Why we forget something and how we improve our memory.
D.What memory is made up of and who can have a good memory.
C
Students who learn languages often think they have memory problems. They worry because they can’t remember words. In fact, the problem is usually with how they study.
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term. When you see, hear or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library, it’s organized (有条理的). When you put away a book or memory, you can’t just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
How can you do this with vocabulary The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences with this word. Even better, make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is “height”, you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. All of these activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meanings of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.
23.In the writer’s opinion, students can’t remember words because ________.
A.they have memory problems
B.they are too worried
C.they don’t use a proper way
D.they don’t like to study
24.According to the passage, what can help us find a word in our long-term memory more easily
A.Just reading the word.
B.Putting the word in short-term memory.
C.Connecting (联系) the word with other words we already know.
D.Using activities to make the word’s meaning stronger in long-term memory.
25.Which of the following is an example of “thinking about the word in new ways” mentioned in the passage
A.Learning some grammar.
B.Making a list of words with similar meanings.
C.Using the word to write a short story.
D.Looking up the word in a dictionary.
26.This passage mainly tells us about ________.
A.students’ problems in language study
B.how to make the meanings of words stronger
C.short-term and long-term memory
D.how to improve ways to remember words
D
How does our brain decide what to remember and what to forget Scientists have discovered that emotion plays a huge role. We are much more likely to remember events that made us feel strong emotions—like joy, fear, or surprise—than events that were boring.
This is because of a part of the brain called the amygdala (杏仁核). When we experience something emotional, the amygdala “tags” the memory. It tells the brain, “This is important! Remember this!” This is why you can probably remember exactly what you were doing on your 10th birthday, but you can’t remember what you ate for lunch three Tuesdays ago.
This “emotional memory” was very useful for our ancestors. Remembering which berry made them sick (fear) or where they found sweet fruit (joy) helped them survive. Today, it still affects us. A student is more likely to remember a science experiment that ended with a loud bang (surprise) than one that was quiet.
However, this can also be a problem. If a student has a very embarrassing moment in class, they might remember it for years, even though it’s not important for survival. Understanding this can help us. If we want to remember something, we should try to connect it to an emotion. Making learning fun and exciting is not just enjoyable; it’s a smart memory strategy.
27.According to the text, which memory is the brain most likely to keep
A.A boring daily routine.
B.A quiet moment of rest.
C.An event causing strong feelings.
D.A list of unrelated facts.
28.What is the function of the amygdala
A.To control body movements.
B.To mark important emotional memories.
C.To help us forget painful experiences.
D.To store long-term memories.
29.Why did the writer mention “our ancestors” in Paragraph 3
A.To explain why emotional memory was useful for survival.
B.To compare modern life with ancient times.
C.To show that people today are less emotional.
D.To describe how they found food.
30.What is the writer’s suggestion for better memory
A.Avoid all emotional experiences.
B.Connect what you learn with emotions.
C.Only study important survival skills.
D.Forget embarrassing moments quickly.

第二节 词汇运用(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分)
A.根据短文内容,用方框内所给词的正确形式填空,使短文通顺、连贯。(多余一词)
connect/create/easy/brain/information/practice
Our memory is like a library. When we learn something new, our 51 needs to store the 52 properly. The more we 53 , the stronger the connections in our brain become.
Scientists say that to remember something well, we should 54 it with what we already know. For example, if you want to remember a new word, try linking it to a picture or a story. This makes the memory easier to find later.
Also, using new information in different ways helps 55 a deeper understanding. The key to a good memory is not just repeating, but using the knowledge actively. When we use it, we won’t lose it.
B:阅读下面短文,根据括号内所给汉语注释写出单词的正确形式(每空一词)。
My grandmother has a 56 (宝贵的) box of memories. In it, she keeps letters from my grandfather, 57 (照片) of her children, and 58 (票根) from places she has visited. She often takes out the box and 59 (分享) stories with me.
One day, she showed me a 60 (日记) she kept when she was a teenager. In it, she wrote about her dreams, her 61 (朋友), and her first day at school. I was 62 (惊讶的) to see that she had the same worries and hopes as I do. She said, “Memories are the 63 (财富) of life. They 64 (帮助) us understand who we are.”
Now, I have started my own box of memories. I want to 65 (保存) these moments for the future.
第三节 语法填空(共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据上下文或括号内单词等提示,在空白处填入适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
I once read a story about a man with an amazing memory. He could remember every single day of his life in perfect detail, and recall exactly 66 he had for lunch on a usual Tuesday ten years ago. I was amazed, but also a bit sad. My own memory felt more like a 67 (forget) squirrel, always busy but often losing its nuts when I needed them most.
This feeling became a real problem during our biology class. We had to 68 (memory) the whole life cycle of a frog, from egg to tadpole to adult. The list of steps and words seemed endless. My project partner, Leo, noticed my trouble. “Just repeating the words won’t stick,” he said. “We need to make it easy to see.” He suggested we turn the difficult process 69 a simple, funny story. He even drew a step-by-step graph that looked like a funny comic, where a tiny egg grew legs and jumped off the page. Turning boring facts into a lively story proved to be a much more 70 (effect) way to learn.
On the day of our report, nervousness took me. I often happen to forget things under pressure. As Leo began speaking, my mind 71 (go) through a terrible empty moment. The first word was gone. But then, I looked at our poster. 72 (see) the silly frog image we had drawn in the middle of its change immediately brought back the right word — “metamorphosis”. The rest of the facts came back quickly. Our project was 73 great success!
That experience 74 (complete) changed my view of memory. I stopped seeing it as a fixed ability and began viewing it as a skill. A good memory isn’t about a magic brain; it’s about finding the right key — a story, a picture, a 75 (feel) — to unlock the information you’ve carefully kept. Now, in every subject, I look for that key.

76.例文
Dear Jack,
I’m sorry to hear you have trouble remembering English words.
Yours,
Li Hua
