In a garden filled with flowers and beds bursting with vegetables and herbs, nearly a dozen teenagers are harvesting(收获) vegetables for the weekend’s farmers’ market.

During the summer, Little gets paid to work Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a. m. until 2 p. m. with City Blossoms, a nonprofit that brings community gardens to schools in urban areas. She believes that working in the garden has taught her to try all sorts of new things, like eating different kinds of vegetables more often. And she’s taken those healthy behaviors home with her and her eating habits have encouraged her family to buy more fruits and vegetables.
City Blossoms is one of many groups across the country teaming up with local communities to build school gardens, like the one at Eastern. It works with schools to create learning gardens and trains teachers in how to use them to get students busy and improve students’ academic performance(学业成绩). These gardens are really outdoor classrooms. For example, the gardens can be used for math lessons, like calculating the area of a plant bed and learning the science of how plants grow.
For the students, the experience can be a nutritional eye-opener, which has totally changed their views on where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) has been around for thousands of years. But recently, it has found a new stage:social media. From the well-known gua sha tools to the practice of drinking hot water, TCM-inspired habits are becoming popular in health routines around the world.
Videos on platforms like TikTok and Instagram romanticize TCM practices. They show people boiling apples for better digestion, changing iced coffee to hot water, or wearing slippers indoors — small habits like these are presented as keys to a longer, healthier life.
But what is behind this trend Unlike Western medicine, which often treats symptoms(症状) one by one, TCM focuses on balance within the body. It uses ideas such as qi (vital energy), yin and yang, and the interaction between the body and its environment. The goal is to prevent illnesses and achieve a harmonious(和谐的) state, rather than simply reacting to illness.
However, the rapid spread of these traditions online raises concerns. On social media, complex traditions are often simplified into bite-sized habits like “drink hot water” or “avoid cold foods”. When practices that developed over centuries are reduced to quick advice, the deep philosophical and cultural bases behind them can disappear. What remains is a simplified version of a much richer system of knowledge.
There are also practical concerns. While many people use TCM for relaxation and preventative care, scientists note that some herbal(草药) treatments lack enough medical evidence and can even carry risks. The line between a cultural practice and medical advice can easily be unclear online.
In spite of these debates, the popularity of Chinese wellness reflects a real search for balance in today’s fast-paced world. Whether people are embracing the deep philosophy or simply the beauty of these traditions, it’s clear that TCM has firmly entered the global self-care conversation.
28. How do online platforms present TCM practices according to the passage
A. As romantic personal choices. B. As advanced medical treatments.
C. As fashionable lifestyle habits. D. As easy-to-follow daily health tips.
29. What is a key feature of TCM’s approach to health compared with Western medicine
A. It aims at inner harmony. B. It treats each symptom separately.
C. It depends on the environment. D. It uses traditional Chinese medicine.
30. What concern does the author raise about the spread of TCM on social media
A. Unclear herbal treatments. B. Unnecessary medical expense.
C. Over-focus on quick advice. D. Loss of deeper cultural meaning.
31. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To discuss TCM’s rising online popularity.
B. To describe how to use TCM practices.
C. To argue TCM is better than Western medicine.
D. To warn against online TCM health trends.

Middle school is a hard time for teenagers. They’re not little kids anymore, but they’re not fully-grown. The social environment for middle schoolers can be full of ever-changing friendships, confusing messages and making clear which friends are good friends.
Life skills every middle school student needs to learn include understanding, self-respect, time management, teamwork, creative thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. These skills lay the foundation(基础) for success in high school, college, and the working world.
Middle school students should learn that not only is it OK to ask questions in class, but it’s also expected. Middle school students should know how to learn through questioning and should know that it is OK to ask teachers to explain materials they don’t understand.
They should also understand that disagreement is part of life and should begin to understand that school isn’t for teaching you what to think, but rather how to think—how to analyze and solve problems, how to separate facts from opinions, and how to seek out different viewpoints. Middle schoolers who don’t know any way out of a disagreement other than a fight are going to have a hard time in life. Peaceful and respectful ways of solving problems are an essential life skill that should be learned in middle school. Whether it’s fighting over cutting in the lunch line, or what clothes who is wearing, middle schoolers must learn how to hear each other out and to make compromises(折中).
Middle schoolers can learn to discuss respectfully, prevent interruption, and listen patiently and actively to understand what another speaker has said. Good communication is clear, short, and to the point, but with guidance, they can learn how to organize their thoughts and present their ideas properly.
Middle school may be a student’s first time to manage their own class schedule and homework. They need tools to help them stay organized and to manage their time effectively. Middle school requires a more structured way to balance schoolwork with after-class activities and still have time for hanging out with friends.
32. What can we say about middle school students from the first two paragraphs
A. They are complete adults. B. They are short in life skills.
C. They want to be successful. D. They need to be understood.
33. What skill is talked about in the fourth paragraph
A. Being respectful. B. Telling right from wrong. C. Dealing with differences.
D. Avoiding disappointments.
34. What is the probable meaning of the underlined word “interruption” in paragraph 5
A. Replying too directly. B. Communicating aimlessly.
C. Partnering with the speaker. D. Stopping others from speaking.
35. What can be the best title for this text
A. Gains and Losses of Middle School B. Life Skills for Middle School Students
C. Challenges that Middle Schoolers Face D. Tips on Making Friends in Middle School

Ways to Turn Classmates into Study Partners
Many students worry about balancing study and social life. They fear that focusing too much on grades will make them lonely, but spending too much time with friends brings guilt (惭愧). However, this isn’t an either-or choice. 36 .
● Redefine relationships to be task-oriented
Instead of chatting for hours, turn your peers into study partners. For example, form a small group to share difficult questions. 37 . This satisfies social needs while improving grades, so you won’t feel guilty.
● Use tiny moments to stay connected
You don’t need long hangouts. Use the 10-minute breaks or walk to the cafeteria together. 38 . These little moments don’t waste time, and they can actually help you feel good. A few words with a friend between classes is enough to lighten things up.
● 39
When you study, stay offline. If a friend sends a message that’s not urgent, just reply later. True friends respect your pace. If they get upset, it might just be that they’re used to quick replies but good friends will understand when you need to concentrate.
● Accept the ups and downs of friendships
It’s natural that some friendships fade while new ones grow. You don’t have to force yourself to keep pace with everyone. Instead, treasure those who cheer you on.
Remember, the goal isn’t about chasing a perfect balance, but about making things work together. Let your peers be a source of support, and let your studies be a shared journey that builds mutual respect. 40 .
A. Such an approach turns social time into productive study time
B. It’s the small, regular moments that really matter
C. Set clear limits for study and social time
D. Put your own needs first, like an oxygen mask
E. Accept that friendships change over time
F. Try these tips and find what works for you

参考范文
Dear Worried,
I'm sorry to know that you are annoyed and anxious recently. It is not unusual for teenagers to face such challenges, so there is no need to worry too much.
Here are my suggestions. First of all, I recommend that you sign up for suitable extra-curricular activities, which makes it easier for you to release anger and quit bad moods. Moreover, why not exchange your feelings with a trusted partner Sharing your negative feelings is a good solution to your trouble, because not only does it offer you emotional support, but it also helps you gain useful advice. Furthermore, it would be wise to focus on your goals. By doing so, you can keep a positive attitude in your life and study.
Sincerely hope you will find these ideas of some help. And I have full confidence in your ability to get out of this trouble soon.
Yours,
Jamie

(Text 10)
Last week, I saw an ad for a table tennis robot in a tech magazine. It could play table tennis all by itself! Since table tennis is my favorite sport and I've always wanted to become the school champion, I really hoped to get one. I asked my mom if she could buy it for my birthday. She understood my excitement, but gently pointed out that the robot was expensive and that buying it was not the best way to improve. She suggested practicing with my friend Cheng, who loves the sport as much as I do. At first, I felt disappointed. But now I'm really glad she gave me that advice. Technology is amazing, but real progress comes from effort, friendship, and playing with others. Now we practice every day, and we're both getting better! This experience taught me that the future is more about people, passion, and shared dreams than just smart machines.
