What Makes Smart Home Still Not Smart Enough
In 2013, I moved from an apartment to a loft (阁楼式公寓). To change the temperature on the air conditioner, I had to walk all the way downstairs. So, I bought my first smart home product: a thermostat. At that time, the experience felt truly amazing. But now, twenty years later, that magic feeling is gone. Smart home systems haven't really gotten better in some ways, they’ve become more troublesome.
First, setting them up is time-consuming. Before buying a new device, you have to spend hours reading user reviews. After you buy it, it may not work as you expected. The setup (设置) can be long and confusing. Sometimes, the device just stops working for no reason.
Second, devices often don’t work well together. Nowadays, more and more devices are made by small companies. So, they don’t have the money to test them with all the other products. There are also so many brands and systems that use different software. You have to switch between different apps. The technology is cheap to make. But connecting everything smoothly is hard.
Last but not least, there is the problem of privacy. Many smart devices record sound and video every day. This information often goes to the company servers. This raises questions about who can view that information. You may also wonder what will happen to your smart home if the Internet stops working.
Still, smart homes can be useful. But in the future, these devices need to be simpler, safer, and work together better. For now, setting up a smart home is like a hard game. Is it worth it You decide.
60.Where did the writer move to after leaving the apartment
61.What was the writer’s first smart home product
62.Twenty years later, the writer didn’t feel good about the smart home systems, did he
63.How many problems did the writer meet with his smart home systems
64.In the writer’s eyes, how do these smart devices need to be in the future
65.Would you like to have a smart home Why or why not

In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made a great invention—the telephone. For the first time in history, people could talk to someone far away just like they were in the same room. But today, phones can do much more than just make calls!
The story of mobile phones began with two-way radios. These early devices (设备) had a big problem—they only worked when people were close to each other. In the 1940s, smart scientists found a way. They built tall radio towers across the country to pass signals (信号) easily.
Everything changed in 1973 when Dr. Martin Cooper made the first real mobile phone call. During the 1980s, mobile phones became smaller but were still very expensive. Only rich business people could afford them, and the phones looked like big plastic bricks.
The 1990s brought another big change. Phones became cheaper and smaller, fitting easily in pockets. Soon, almost everyone had one. Text messaging became popular. People started writing short messages instead of making phone calls. Meeting time became more flexible (灵活的) because you could just text “I’ll be 15 minutes late.”
Now we have smartphones—like powerful mini-computers in our pockets. We use them to take photos, watch videos, play games, and even help with housework! Messaging apps let us send videos and long messages easily. While phones help us stay connected, some people worry that we spend too much time on them.
Looking back, it’s amazing how phones have changed. From Bell’s simple telephone to today’s smartphones, this has truly changed our lives. What will phones be able to do next Only time will tell!
