For example, a friend might be using an old pair of glasses, so you can buy him or her a new pair. Or you can give him or her a fun experience (经历) that he or she will remember forever as a gift.

Club Time! Find Your Fun!
As a new Grade 7 student, I have found that joining school clubs is one of the most fun parts of middle school life. At the start of this term, our school held a “Club Fair”. All the clubs set up tables to tell new students about themselves.
I chose to join two clubs: the Robot Club and the Reading Club. The Robot Club meets every Wednesday afternoon in our science lab, which has all the tools we need. Our teacher, Mr Wang, knows a lot and is very kind. He teaches us how to build and program (编程) simple machines. Last month, our team made a small car that uses sunlight to run and can move on its own. We even joined a city competition (竞赛) for middle school students!
The Reading Club meets on Friday afternoons in the school library. We read many interesting books together and talk about what we think. Our teacher, Ms Li, always plans fun activities to make reading more interesting. Not long ago, we acted out a short play from a story we read.
Our school has many other great clubs. The Gardening Club lets students grow flowers and vegetables in the school garden. The Music Club is open to everyone. For those who love sports, we have Basketball Club. They often play against other schools.
By joining these clubs, I’ve made new friends, and learned many new skills. The clubs have helped me feel more sure of myself and have made my school life much more fun. I think every student should join at least one club—it’s a great way to make your middle school life more colourful.

Talk to different people. This is your school now. Doing sports, reading books, or studying together can help you make more friends.

You will be happy if people love you, and not happy if people don’t like you. Don’t worry (担心), be true, be yourself, and be nice to everyone. Sometimes they don’t get to know you much. Sometimes they may say harsh words to you. When they know you more, they will like you.

Is life boring at weekends The left-behind (留守的) children will say “yes”. A study (研究) shows that 90% of left-behind children in China spend a long time on short videos and games at weekends. Their parents work in other cities. They feel unhappy at home and they are not so popular (受欢迎的) in the class.
Some schools set up (设立) weekend clubs to help left-behind children. In those clubs, children can join in many activities, such as dancing, cooking, playing football and so on. The children can join different clubs according to their interests. Students’ parents think they can help their children to get on well with (与……和睦相处) others. “There are a lot of advantages (优点) of being in the clubs. My child makes lots of friends after joining the sports club. He likes to talk with his classmates,” says Li Ming’s father. “I learn how to make a cake in the cooking club. After that, we can eat cakes together. I can cook many kinds of food now. I want to be a cook in the future,” Zhang Hong says.
In the weekend clubs, students can know more about themselves. They can also learn how to get on well with others and work in a team. What’s more, they can learn some skills for life. It’s meaningful for schools to set up the weekend clubs.

A US girl creates a water bottle that can be eaten
美国女孩发明可以吃掉的“水杯”
Madison Checketts loves beaches. But she often sees the sand covered with plastic bottles. “This needed to change,” she told Smithsonian magazine.
The 12-year-old from the US created a new kind of water bottle. People can actually eat it! The idea comes from the “popping boba (爆爆珠)” in bubble tea drinks. A thin piece of jelly (胶状物) keeps the juice inside.
Checketts learned how to make this online. She put some chemicals (化学物质) together. Then she froze (冷冻) them to make the jelly. After some tries, she made her own palm-sized “bubble” with water inside!
People can bite (咬) a hole at the top of the bubble, drink the water and then either eat the “bottle” or throw it away. It can break down without polluting the environment. Checketts said the bottle felt like a gummy bear (小熊软糖) and tasted a bit sweet.
In the future, Checketts will run more tests to make the water bottle stronger and bigger. She wants her water bottle to be used during marathons – as runners stop for water, they can get a bubble, drink the water and either eat or throw the bubble. “I hope people can understand that everyone can make the world a better place,” she said.
