It was an ordinary day when I got a message from my daughter's kindergarten about an upcoming school dance performance. At first, I thought, “How wonderful, I can't wait to see her perform!” But to my amazement, I discovered it wasn't just the kids, but parents were expected to join as well. “Oh, that's terrible. I'm short of rhythm and have stage fright. How could I take part in it ”
That evening my idea was destroyed as my daughter came home excitedly, “Dad, this is going to be fun. We should wear matching pink T-shirts and stand at the front so everyone can see us. ” And so, we began with practice in front of the television. My wife had luckily found a past performance online. At this point, I realised our performance would also end up online and any mistake could finally be turned into a joke. The stress had now been increased. The first at-home practice went as badly as you could imagine. And fast forward to Saturday and it was time for a group practice at school. Given the short notice, I expected the other parents to be struggling as much as me. I was wrong. They moved very well.
In the days to come we worked very hard and both our confidence and coordination improved quickly. My daughter moved like a swan, while I still moved like an elephant. The day of the big show arrived and my nervousness became less. It turns out that getting nowhere near enough sleep before a big performance is the perfect cure for stage fright. Moreover, my daughter was having the time of her life and that alone powered me.
Reflecting on the past two weeks, I realized this experience had enriched us both. It marked the first time my daughter and I learned something new together. I find myself looking forward to similar events like this in the future.

D. He unwillingly practised dancing with his daughter.
26. What did the author realise after the big performance
A. He could dance as well as his daughter.
B. The experience brought a lot to his family.
C. The other parents were struggling as much as him.
D. Confidence was very important in the performance.
27. What is the best title for the text
A. A dance performance:fear to enjoyment
B. A stage experience:excitement to sadness
C. A stage experience:discovering joy through movement
D. A dance performance:getting out of fear through dance

A study explores how changes in an individual's mental health influence their body weight over time. What they found was that increases in symptoms of depression are associated with a subsequent increase in body weight when measured one month later.
The researchers were from Cambridge's Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology Unit. They examined data from over 2,000 adults living in Cambridgeshire, UK. In the study, participants completed digital questionnaires on mental wellbeing and body weight every month for up to nine months using a mobile app developed by a healthcare company. The researchers assessed an individual's symptoms of depression, anxiety and perceived stress.
A higher score indicated greater severity, with the maximum possible scores being 24 for depression, 21 for anxiety and 40 for stress. The team then used statistical modelling to explore whether having poorer mental wellbeing than usual was related to changes in body weight one month later.
The effect was only observed in those individuals with overweight (defined as BMI 25-29. 9 kg/m ) or with obesity (BMI over 30 kg/m ). Individuals with overweight had on average an increase of 52 grams for each one point increase from their usual depressive symptoms score. For those with obesity the comparable weight gain was 71 grams. The effect was not seen in those individuals with a healthy weight.
First author Dr Julia Mueller from the MRC Epidemiology Unit said, “Overall, this suggests that individuals with overweight or obesity are more vulnerable (脆弱的) to weight gain in response to feeling more depressed. Although the weight gain was relatively small, even small weight changes occurring over short periods of time can lead to larger weight changes in the long-term, particularly among those with overweight and obesity. ”
Monitoring and addressing depressive symptoms in individuals with overweight or obesity can help prevent further weight gain and be beneficial to both their mental and physical health. Previous studies have suggested that poor mental health is both a cause and consequence of obesity. But this research found no evidence that weight predicted subsequent symptoms of depression.
28. What can we learn form the first paragraph
A. Being fat makes people stressed out.
B. Feeling depressed can cause weight gain.
C. It's unnecessary to worry about putting on weight.
D. There is a link between job changes and higher weight.
29. What were the participants asked to do
A. Report their conditions regularly. B. Develop a mobile app together.
C. Exercise on end for nine months. D. Assess their symptoms of depression.
30. What is mainly presented in paragraph 4
A. Systematic analyses. B. Statistical methods.
C. Specific results. D. Practical examples.
31. Which of the following might Julia Mueller agree with
A. People having a high BMI should avoid getting depressed.
B. Overweight and obesity should be dealt with in no time.
C. Individuals with overweight are more likely to feel depressed.
D. Small weight changes occurring over short periods don't matter.
D
A new model of the Milky Way has revealed that our galaxy is wider than we thought, according to a new paper in the journal Nature Astronomy. The researchers found that the bulge (凸起) at the center of our galaxy is less densely packed with stars than they expected.
“We obtained a significantly larger ‘size’ for the Milky Way than that expected,” the researchers wrote in the paper. The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy with a central bar-shaped structure and several spiral arms extending from the center. The galaxy has a dense central bulge around the Galactic Center, which is thought to contain a supermassive black hole. The Milky Way contains between 100 billion and 400 billion stars, but the exact number is difficult to determine due to the presence of dust that prevents our view.
“Our understanding of the Milky Way's structure has improved tremendously through the advancement of galactic observations over recent decades. Thanks to the proximity to our home galaxy, we are able to study the Milky Way's substructures in great detail. For the same reason, however, a global picture of the galactic structure is still incomplete,” the researchers wrote in the paper.
In the paper, the researchers describe how they measured the brightness of all parts of our galaxy, and conducted a census (统计) of the red giants dotted across the Milky Way. They found that the bulge in the center of the galaxy is not as densely packed as first thought and is also flatter;the Milky Way thus has a greater half-light radius than we knew.
The half-light radius is a measure used in astronomy to describe the size of an astronomical object, defined as the radius within which half of the total light of the object is emitted. In other words, it is the distance from the center of the object to the point where half of the total light from the object is contained within a sphere of that radius.
“Because the inner disk profile flattens, the half-light radius of the Milky Way is significantly larger than that expected from a picture of the Milky Way's structure with a bulge and single-exponential thick and thin disk components,” they wrote.
32. What did the researchers find
A. The Milky Way is narrower than we thought.
B. The Galaxy is quite densely packed with stars.
C. The Milky Way is brighter than previously thought.
D. The Galaxy might be larger than we previously assumed.
33. Why is it hard to find out the precise number of stars in the Milky Way
A. The Galaxy is surrounded with dust. B. The Galaxy keeps moving constantly.
C. They are too small to see. D. They stay far away.
34. What does the underlined phrase “half-light radius” in paragraph 4 refer to
A. The distance from the center of an object to half of the total light.
B. The average distance of all visible stars from the center of the Galaxy.
C. The distance within which half of the galaxy's stars are located.
D. The distance from the Galactic Center to the farthest visible star.
35. Which column of a website is the text most probably taken from
A. Education. B. Health. C. Science. D. Entertainment.

The widespread use of mobile phones has changed how we communicate daily, but their place in education is still a matter of debate. Some think of them as a trouble, though others feel they can serve as a useful tool for learning. Some people doubt whether students are focused on their lessons or are instead distracted by their devices, texting or even trying to cheat by taking photos of tests.
36 There's also a chance they're playing games or watching videos on their phones instead of listening to the teacher.
37 For example, France has made a law that doesn't allow students under 15 to use mobile phones in school. The problem of students using mobile phones in school is a real worry. They are checking their phones, texting or going on social media. 38 Therefore, to deal with the problem, some schools have started using tech solutions. And other schools have begun to use special boxes to keep students' phones during school time, so they won't be tempted to use them.
39 The teachers in these schools believe that students have grown up with mobile phones. Teachers think it's their job to teach students how to use mobile phones the right way as a learning tool. They also teach about how to use phones properly, including how to be responsible for social media and the Internet. 40 In their eye, the technology has already existed, so schools should use it to help students and not fear it.
A. It's apparent that mobile phones can destroy a child.
B. They regard it as part of changing education for children.
C. Students are often distracted by their mobile phones during class time.
D. However, some schools have decided against a complete ban on mobile phones.
E. In fact, with proper guidance, mobile phones can boost the learning experience.
F. Some students even devote up to 12 hours daily to their mobile phones.
G. Educators are exploring effective ways to monitor student mobile phone usage.

When I was in middle school, I was always interested in drawing. I would spend hours sketching in my notebook during free time. However, I never thought my drawings were good enough to show anyone. I enjoyed creating art, but I lacked confidence and was too shy to share my work with others. One day, my art teacher, Mrs Lewis, announced that the school was holding an art competition. She encouraged everyone in the class to participate. As soon as I heard about it, I knew there was no way I could enter. My work wasn't good enough to be displayed alongside the other students' works.
After class, Mrs Lewis noticed I didn't seem excited. She asked me, “Why aren't you entering the competition Your sketches are beautiful. ” I was surprised that she even knew I liked drawing. I explained that I didn't think my drawings were good enough to be shown to others, let alone entered into a contest. Mrs Lewis smiled and said, “You don't have to win. You just have to believe in yourself enough to try. ” Those words stuck with me. She didn't push me to be the best; she just wanted me to take a chance.
For the next few days, I went home and worked on a drawing I felt proud of. It wasn't perfect, but I poured my heart into it. Each time I doubted myself, I thought about what Mrs Lewis had said. Slowly, my confidence grew, and I decided to enter the competition. I handed in my work the day before the deadline, unsure of what would happen but proud that I had taken the first step. That small act of bravery felt like a huge victory for me.

W:When I stepped onto Harvard four years ago as a first-year student, I did not know where my journey was going to take me. Excited about math and music, I knew I wanted to continue studying both. Throughout my four years, I tried so many different things.
Of course, I had ups and downs throughout the years. It was not always a walk in the park. Over the course of my time here at Harvard, I underwent four surgeries on my ankle. I was very lucky to have a lot of academic, medical, and social support. Studying while having medical issues was not an easy task, but getting through it made my graduation more meaningful because it was a proof that I worked very hard to get there.
I am proud of how I spent my time here at Harvard integrating myself into the community and becoming a student on campus who other students could come to for support and help academically, socially, and emotionally. My goal in life is to help others, and I graduated from Harvard, feeling that I had not only been able to do so during my undergraduate career, but also gained the knowledge, experiences, and qualifications to be able to continue to do so.

Dear Jim,
I'm glad to hear that you're writing an article on AI for your school newspaper. I suggest you focus on how AI is transforming different industries, such as health care, education and transportation. You can also mention how AI is helping in daily life, like in smart homes and personal assistants.
This would be interesting because AI is a hot topic, and many people are curious about how it impacts their lives. It would also show the positive changes AI can bring to society.
Good luck with your article!
Yours sincerely,

One possible version:
When the results of the competition were announced a week later, I was shocked to hear my name. I had won second place. As I stood in front of the class to accept my certificate, I couldn't believe it. The room filled with applause, and at that moment, all the doubts I had about my abilities melted away. What mattered wasn't the award itself but the fact that I had taken a risk and believed in my talent. The excitement I felt wasn't just about winning—it was about proving to myself that I could do something I had once been afraid to try.
After the ceremony, Mrs Lewis found me and said, “I told you that you had it in you. ” Her belief in me had been the push I needed. I realized then that taking a chance, even when you're unsure, is the only way to grow. From that day on, I stopped hiding my drawings. I began to show my artwork to my friends and family, and with each piece I created, my confidence grew. The art competition was just the beginning. I had learned that sometimes, the most important victories are not about winning a prize but about believing in yourself and keeping trying.
