The Turquoise Coast is one of Turkey’s natural wonders. But in recent years, the area has become severely damaged due to overfishing. An effort to restore the area is in progress, thanks to Zafer Kizilkaya, president and founder of the Mediterranean Conservation Society. He successfully persuaded the Turkish government to build a network of marine protected areas (MPA) covering more than 300 miles along the Mediterranean coast.
Kizilkaya’s mission began in 2007, following a diving adventure in Gōkova Bay, a 62-mile-long gulf in the center of the Turquoise Coast. He had returned to his native Turkey after several years working as a researcher and underwater photographer in Indonesia and was shocked by the marine degradation.
According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, the Mediterranean is the world’s most overfished sea. Realizing the seriousness of the problem, he decided to take action at once and try to persuade local fishers. Getting the support of fishers was the biggest challenge, but because of the dire situation, some started to listen. In 2012, Kizilkaya established Turkey’s first community-managed MPA in Gōkova Bay.
He trained local fishers as marine rangers who could monitor the waters for illegal fishing and send alerts to the Turkish Coast Guard. Thanks to his work, Gōkova Bay’s marine ecosystem has made a great comeback. According to the ocean protection charity Blue Marine Foundation, the number of fish per square meter has increased ten times since 2012 and incomes for local fishers have increased 400%.
Gōkova Bay became a great example for protecting the ocean,” says Kizilkaya. His success helped him persuade the Turkish government to spread the MPA network southeastward along 310 miles of Turkish coastline. “I’d like to see MPAs established across Turkey and the entire Mediterranean, and I hope my work has opened people’s eyes to the crisis underwater and what we can do to solve it,” Kizilkaya adds.

There’s little doubt that participating in sports brings many health benefits for kids. According to a recent study, boys who play sports during their early childhood are less likely to experience emotional stress, including signs of depression and anxiety, later in life compared to boys who didn’t participate in sports.
Marie-Iosee Harbec did the research for the study as a doctoral student. Along with her professor, she analyzed data taken from a Quebec group of 690 boys and 748 girls who were born in 1997 and 1998. The information they looked at was reported by parents of the children and included the kids’ physical activity at 5-year old and 12-year old. They also reviewed reports from the children’s teachers about signs of emotional stress seen in the kids from ages 6 to 10 years.
The researchers discovered that participating in sports in preschool might help boys develop life skills, such as joining in teamwork, practicing self-control and building supportive relationships. Besides, they discovered that joining in sports helps boys with their emotional health, and that emotionally well boys join more often in physical activity.
However, the researchers didn’t find any obvious relationship between girls’ participation in sports and their emotional health. Harbec points to one explanation being that girls are more likely than boys to look for help from and share their emotional stress with family, friends, or healthcare providers.
While the researchers didn’t measure whether the kids they analyzed were good at the sport they joined in, they did measure their physical fitness at age 12. They discovered that boys who had lower levels of depressive and anxiety signs between ages 6 to 10 years were the ones who were the most physically fit at age 12. “We could say that physically active kids probably have better physical fitness,” says Harbec.
Harbec believes schools should provide different after-class team sports and physical activities beginning in kindergarten. She says: “Parents also should join in promoting physical activity and sport participation among youth by acting as role models and taking part in their children’s activities.”
28. Why does the author mention the children’s parents and teachers in Paragraph 2
A. To show the only way to get data.
B. To show the support for the research.
C. To show the collected data were reliable
D. To show the information was hard to get.
29. Why do girls fail to get obvious mental health benefits from sports
A. They are much emotionally stronger than boys.
B. They are better at getting psychological support.
C. They have a larger and better social circle in life.
D. They are used to emotional stress earlier than boys.
30. What is Harbec’s advice for parents
A. Spend more time with children.
B. Look for a role model for children.
C. Force children to exercise regularly.
D. Keep physically active with their children.
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Girls benefit more from regular exercise than boys.
B. Exercise frequency influences children’s mental health.
C. Sports competence is connected with less depression risk.
D. Boys’ childhood sports may reduce anxiety and depression.

Using artificial intelligence to create artworks increases artists’ productivity and generates more positive reactions, according to a study involving submissions to a popular art-sharing website by more than 50,000 users. But generative AI works are more likely to display stereotypical themes, reducing the novelty of an artist’s work..
The researchers tracked 4 million works published on the website by the artists. The artists self-divided into two groups: those who continued to work using traditional methods — a sort of control group, and those who adopted AI. The latter group, numbering about 5,800 were identified by the use of tags (标签) on their work, such as “AI-generated” or the names of the AI tools. Works posted into AI art communities on the site were also included.
Artists who adopted AI tools saw their productivity measured by the number of works posted increase by 25 percent over the study period. They also saw a 50 percent rise in the number of “favorites” their work received over six months. But novelty, measured by the subject matter and specific details of the work, decreased for the AI-using group.
“The study completely tracks with my own experience with these tools and spaces,” says Andres Guadamuz at the University of Sussex, UK. “At first, it felt that you could do anything, bring anything in your head into existence, but the more I used them, the more I kept coming back to themes I liked.”
Guadamuz points out that he isn’t judging the quality of the images produced by generative AI nor their originality, nor the creativity involved in the process. All these things are often hotly contested, with some artists saying that generative AI is using their works as training data and limiting their ability to be recognized as creatives.
Zhou at Boston University is also considering these questions. He says, “The generative technology accelerates the ability to produce. But it raises other issues: Are we giving up the process of understanding what goes into being creative and producing something meaningful, in favour of just being able to force our way with technology ”
32. What do we know about the artworks created by AI according to paragraph 1
A. They are abundant but less creative
B. They are generative but less popular.
C. They balance popularity with artistic depth.
D. They attract viewers with the trendy subjects.
33. How was the study conducted
A. By surveying artists’ opinions on AI tools using.
B. By analyzing suggestions on generative AI works.
C. By comparing AI-assisted artworks with traditional ones.
D. By observing the process of AI-assisted artistic creation.
34. What can be inferred from Guadamuz’s statement
A. AI tools help artists explore new creative styles.
B. AI users receive more recognition for their creativity.
C. Artists believe AI improves the quality of their artworks.
D. Artists may repeat themes they like when using AI tools.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. The Unstoppable Rise of AI Artworks.
B. The Double-Edged Sword of AI in Artworks.
C. The Role of AI in Artistic Productivity.
D. The Breakthrough of AI in Artistic Creation.

My husband’s company promoted him and relocated us to New York City. We found a safe, affordable place to live. Once we got settled in, I was determined to find employment. After a few days of searching and applying, I was fortunate to find a job as an administrative assistant with Young & Rubicam, a famous advertising agency. I wasn’t thrilled about the job because I had graduated with a degree to teach English, but the pay was good, and the extra money was a blessing.
The job was rather dull, though, mainly typing letters, answering phones, setting up for conferences, filing, scheduling meetings, arranging travel for the copywriters (撰稿人), etc. I felt that what I was doing was insignificant. As letters or travel brochures would come across my desk to be typed, I would read over them. Often, there were grammatical errors or the spelling was not always accurate, but since it wasn’t my job to correct them, I typed them as they were given to me.
One day, I was talking to my grandmother, LouOlive Graham. Anyone not related to her called her Lou. Everybody else, including all twelve of her children and fifteen grandchildren, called her “Muh”. Muh was a wise woman lady. Her children adored and admired her. There was nothing better than to spend a day with Muh, which meant you were going to hear fascinating stories about her growing up, while savoring her tea and cakes.
Over tea, I said, “Muh, you should see the things that come across my desk — letters, memos, and brochures with crazy grammar, poor spelling, and awkward sentences. But I guess it’s not my job to correct them.” Then, I added that I only did what they paid me to do.
Muh listened attentively, as she always did, and after I finished, she said very calmly, “Honey, don’t just do enough to get by. Always do your best work. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. You may find more enjoyment in the job if you do your best. Plus, it never hurts you to let people know that you can do more than what they hired you to do.”

Dear teachers and classmates,
It is a great privilege to speak here on the topic “Health First.”
Nowadays, many students are troubled by poor health. So absorbed are they in screens that they often stay up late, and what worries us most is that some even suffer from anxiety, which affects their study and daily life. To change this, I’d like to offer some practical suggestions. To begin with, it would be a good idea if we could exercise daily, which will help us build up our bodies. In addition, I suggest that we should keep a balanced diet and get enough sleep, because they contribute greatly to good health.
Health is the foundation of everything. Only by taking care of ourselves can we build a brighter future. Let’s start today!
