A good teacher-student relationship does not come into being by accident; it is built slowly, through countless small moments inside and outside the classroom. 1________ Without honest communication, teachers cannot discover what puzzles their students, and students cannot understand why their teachers set certain rules. Both sides then begin to guess each other's thoughts, and guessing is where misunderstanding usually starts.
2________ If a teacher promises to return the essays by Friday, the essays should be back on Friday, not a week later. Keeping promises is the first test of trust. Little by little, students begin to believe that their teacher means what he or she says, and they become more willing to open up in class.
Respect matters just as much. 3________ Students should not expect kindness from their teachers while answering questions in a rude way, and teachers should never laugh at a wrong answer. When both sides treat each other politely, the classroom becomes a pleasant place where everyone feels safe to speak, to ask questions, and even to make small mistakes.
Of course, even in the best classes, problems appear from time to time. Homework may be handed in late, or a joke may hurt someone's feelings. 4________ A calm talk after class often solves in five minutes what a whole week of cold silence cannot.
Finally, remember that building a relationship never really ends. 5________ A teacher who stops to listen to a student's worry at the school gate is doing as much for the relationship as one who explains a difficult grammar point in class. Small daily actions, not grand speeches, are what keep the connection alive year after year.
A. Respect, however, must go in both directions.
B. A simple 'thank you' after class can mean a lot to a teacher.
C. Trust grows when teachers keep their promises and treat every student fairly.
D. When disagreements appear, it is better to talk about them calmly rather than let them turn into arguments.
E. Technology can help us stay in touch, but it can never take the place of face-to-face communication.
F. First of all, both sides need to communicate honestly and often.
G. Teachers who listen carefully to their students usually find it easier to gain their trust.
五、阅读理解
(一)
When I entered senior high, I was a shy boy who never raised his hand. Maths had always frightened me, and my grades were among the lowest in class. Then Miss Zhang became our maths teacher.
Unlike some teachers, she never posted the scores of the whole class on the wall. Instead, she returned each paper with a short note. On my first test, the note read, 'You solved the hardest question but made small mistakes in calculation. Come and talk to me.' I was surprised that anyone had noticed what I could do rather than what I could not.
In the following months, she gave me exercises that were neither too easy nor too hard, and she praised every bit of progress. When I got a question wrong, she asked me to explain my thinking, then pointed out exactly where it went wrong. Once she even stayed after school for an hour to explain a problem again. Step by step, maths stopped being a nightmare.
Two years later, I entered a national competition and won a prize. At the award ceremony, everyone praised me, but I knew whom to thank. Miss Zhang changed not only my grades but also the way I saw myself. From her I learned that a good teacher does not simply teach a subject; he or she helps students discover the courage hidden inside them. Now I am studying to become a teacher myself, hoping to pass on what she gave me.

Twelve years ago, Sara moved with her family from London to Sydney. On her last evening, she and her best friend Amy promised to stay in touch forever. Some adults smiled, believing that distance slowly kills even the closest friendship. The two girls were determined to prove them wrong.
In the first years, they wrote long emails and sent photographs by post. Later, video calls made life easier: every Sunday evening, one girl's morning met the other's evening, and they talked about school, books and dreams. When Sara failed an important exam, Amy stayed on the line until midnight just to comfort her, and the next morning she emailed her a list of encouraging notes.
However, both friends admit that screens cannot do everything. Once, when Amy's father was ill, Sara wished she could simply sit beside her and hold her hand instead of talking to a camera. 'Messages can carry words, but not warmth,' Sara says. So every two years they save money to meet in one of the two cities.
The friendship has also taught them a lesson about the online age. Many young people today have hundreds of 'friends' on social media whom they hardly know. Sara and Amy's story shows a different picture: true friendship is measured not by the number of contacts but by the depth of understanding. Distance has never been a wall between them; instead, it has taught them to value every minute they share, online or face to face.
6.Why did some adults smile at the two girls’ promise
A. They thought the girls were too young to travel.
B. They believed writing letters was out of date.
C. They believed distance would weaken the friendship.
D. They thought video calls were bad for study.
7.What did Amy do when Sara failed her exam
A. She posted Sara’s story online.
B. She bought Sara a plane ticket.
C. She helped Sara prepare for the next exam.
D. She comforted her for a long time on the phone.
8.What does Sara mean by saying “Messages can carry words, but not warmth”
A. Written messages are hard to understand.
B. Online communication has its limits.
C. Sara dislikes talking on the phone.
D. Warm words are useless to a sick person.
9.What do the two friends do every two years
A. They meet each other in person.
B. They write a book about friendship.
C. They take a trip to a third city.
D. They buy each other expensive gifts.
10.What does the story mainly tell us
A. True friendship depends on depth, not numbers or distance.
B. Social media is the best way to make friends.
C. Long-distance friendship is impossible to keep.
D. Friends should meet each other as often as possible.
