Tom always lived for grades. He was always interested in books and ideas. Why should he care about people They only made fun of him. They were jealous (妒忌的) because he was so smart, or so he thought. It seemed that Tom knew everything — except one thing. He didn t know how to get along with other people.
He made his parents believe that school was a waste of time, so he began home schooling with special teachers. He dreamed of being the youngest person to enter university, and he sent letters to famous professors to see if it was possible.

It is not very simple and you ll need another person to help you. Experiment and learn how to use them, and I l be back in a week to see how you re doing. Then, I ll have another test for you.”

Instant noodles(方便面)are a favorite quick meal when people don't want to cook. Picture eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort! But many believe they're just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they're unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.
The main issue isn't the noodles themselves, but the common way people make them: pouring boiling water over dried noodles and adding all the salty seasoning packets(调料包). These flavor packets contain high levels of salt and artificial additives (人工添加剂), making this version unbalanced and unhealthy.
Actually, plain instant noodles aren't terrible. They're fried during production (which adds some oil and calories), but they fill you up well and provide quick energy when you're hungry. To make them healthier, cook them properly: boil the noodles first, drain excess starchy (含有淀粉的) water, then use fresh water or broth (肉汤). Crucially, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This boosts vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal!
So, are instant noodles junk food If prepared lazily with all the seasoning and no extras, yes. But when cooked with less seasoning plus veggies and protein, they become a decent occasional meal. Remember: the secret is variety. Enjoy them once or twice a week as part of a diverse diet, and they won't harm your health. They're far less scary than people think — just upgrade your cooking method!
8.What determines if instant noodles are unhealthy
A. Their quick cooking time. B. The time of eating.
C. The preparation method. D. The junk food label.
9.What is the major cause of unhealthy instant noodles
A. The dried noodles. B. The flavor packets.
C. Using boiling water. D. People avoiding cooking.
10.What is the main purpose of the third paragraph
A. Warn about health dangers. B. Give cooking instructions.
C. Argue noodles are harmless. D. List harmful additives.
11.What is the suitable title for the passage
A. Instant Noodles: Not All Waste. B. Instant Noodles: How to Cook
C. Instant Noodles: Eat Sometimes. D. Instant Noodles: What we know

Research often points to exercise as a good way to improve mental health, but a recent study from the University of Georgia suggests that it’s not just physical movement that affects mental health. It’s how, where and why you exercise that makes the difference.
“In previous (以前的) research, physical-activity research has focused on how long someone exercises for or how many calories are burned,” said Patrick O’Connor, co-author of the study. “The amount of exercise has been the main way researchers have tried to understand how physical activity might influence mental health, while often ignoring whether those minutes were spent exercising with a friend or as part of a game.”
Many studies found that people who take part in regular leisure-time physical activity, like going for a run, taking a yoga class or biking for fun, tend to report lower levels of anxiety. But while leisure-time physical activity offers better mental health outcomes, these benefits may vary greatly depending on the environment of the activity, according to the researchers.
“For example, if a soccer player runs down the field and kicks the game-winning ball, their mental health is fantastic,” O’Connor said. “In contrast, if you do the exact same exercise but miss the goal and people are blaming (责备) you, you likely feel very differently.”
Many studies also showed that adopting regular exercise routines improved mental health, especially for individuals with existing mental health disorders. However, these studies were typically based on similar samples, so the results aren’t probably suitable for more diverse groups. “If we’re trying to help people’s mental health through exercise, then not only do we need to think about the amount and the mode, we also need to ask: What is the context (背景) ” O’Connor said.
For O’Connor, the key point is clear. It’s not just movement that matters. It’s the meaning, the context and the experience of the activity that determine the influence of exercise on mental health.
12.What did the past physical-activity research pay most attention to
A. The exercise environment.
B. The length and energy cost of exercise.
C. The experience of doing sports.
D. The feeling of joining group games.
13.Why do two soccer players have different mental feelings with the same exercise
A. They have different exercise habits.
B. Their exercise environments and results are different.
C. Their health conditions are not the same.
D. They spend different time on sports.
14.What can we infer from the passage
A. Exercise amount is the only key to mental health.
B. Old study results can fit all kinds of people well.
C. The context of exercise plays a vital role in mental health.
D. Leisure-time exercise can stop anxiety completely.
15.What does the underlined word “diverse” in Paragraph 5 probably mean
A. Various. B. Simple. C. Healthy. D. Serious.

37.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I still remember the first day when I entered high school. Everywhere on the campus I could smell excitement in the fresh air, yet a thread of nervousness wound through my stomach. As I walked through the campus road, I gazed up at the towering buildings and the busy students, knowing that a new chapter of my school life was about to unfold.
In my first math class, I quickly realized it was going to be far harder than what I was used to. The teacher talked so fast, and the mountain of homework was too much, making it hard for me to breathe. I tried to pay attention, but my mind was racing. I started to doubt myself, wondering if I could really handle high school life. I felt I could hardly follow anything. I felt lost.
After the class, I sat at my desk, feeling like I was in over my head. That’s when Mr. Smith, my math teacher, came over. He saw I was upset and asked if I was okay. I told him I was finding everything really hard and wasn’t sure I could handle it.
Mr. Smith’s eyes softened as he smiled, and he said in a comforting tone, “I understand how you feel. High school is a significant leap from junior high, but it’s also an opportunity for you to grow. Everyone struggles at first. The important thing is not to give up.” He spent some time going over the math stuff I didn’t understand.
His words made me feel a little better, and I listened closely as he explained everything again. By the end of our talk, I felt a bit more hopeful about the rest of the day and the year ahead.

37.【答案】After that day, I made up my mind to face the challenges. Regarding my studies, I developed a comprehensive plan. For math, I dedicated extra hours every day to practicing problems and seeking help from teachers and classmates. I also applied the same determination to other subjects. In English, I started reading English novels and watching English movies to improve my language sense. In physics, I did more experiments to better understand the theories. I told myself that every subject was a mountain to climb, and I was ready to scale them all.
As the weeks passed, I noticed that I was making progress. Math was no longer the insurmountable hurdle it once was. I could follow the teacher’s pace in class and solve complex problems independently. In English, I could communicate more fluently and write better essays. My physics grades also soared as I grasped the concepts more thoroughly. These achievements not only brought me joy but also strengthened my belief that hard work pays off. I was deeply thankful to Mr. Smith. His words of encouragement had lit a fire within me, inspiring me to keep striving forward in this new stage of my life.
38.【答案】Dear Peter,
I understand you ’re under great stress since entering senior high. Don’t be overly anxious! First, make a detailed study plan that suits your own situation, which can help you manage your time more effectively.
Second, what you need to know is that everyone adapts to new environments at their own pace, so be patient with yourself. You can join some clubs where you can meet like-minded friends; this is a great way to fit into the new surroundings.
If you still feel overwhelmed, don ’t hesitate to talk to your teachers or classmates, who can offer you useful advice.
I believe you ’ll get used to it soon.
Best wishes!
