It's a truth universally acknowledged that many kids are rarely fond of eating their greens. But fruit and vegetables are the foundation of a healthy diet, which makes parents come up with creative solutions to get their children to happily eat them. That's how food artist Sarah came up with an idea — turn these ingredients into characters, animals, objects, and even inspiring messages. Her delicious creations, which she shares online, are also a feast for the eyes.
Sarah's adventure in the world of food art began in 2018, with a simple rabbit design. Her food collages (拼贴画) not only put a smile on her children's faces, but also keep them coming back for more. For the artist, food art has also provided her with a way to relax after work.
“Most of my designs start due to an event or idea I have. Then I consider which fruit would work to make the design appeal to kids,” she says. “Colours are key.” Staying true to her purpose, Sarah only uses fresh fruit and vegetables, along with seeds, nuts, and occasionally a touch of chocolate. Her art does not contain food additives (添加剂).
Sticking to her values around food has made her notice the versatility of each ingredient. For Sarah, blueberries lend themselves perfectly to various elements. “I love working with blueberries. You can use them for eyes, skin, lines and backgrounds. Very healthy and delicious as well.”
Everyone has their own unique approach to creativity. The most basic creations take her only around 30 minutes to create, while some more complex designs take up to two hours. Sarah says, “I don't really have a creative process. I get ideas when I listen to the news, read books or surf the Internet. I love healthy food and I also make an effort to find useful and beautiful solutions to kids' healthy eating. So my fruit art illustrates my belief and passion.”
24. Why did Sarah start creating food art
A. To develop a new hobby after work.
B. To become famous on social media.
C. To experiment with different food ingredients.
D. To get kids to eat fruit and vegetables happily.
25. What does the underlined word “versatility” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Different uses. B. Attractive colours.
C. Simple designs. D. Various elements.
26. What can we know about Sarah from the last paragraph
A. She uses natural ingredients for her designs.
B. She integrates love and creativity into her food art.
C. She draws inspiration from social networking sites.
D. She is unwilling to concentrate on the creative process.
27. What can be the best title for the passage
A. Fresh fruit and vegetables benefiting children
B. Practical suggestions about maintaining a healthy diet
C. Turn ordinary ingredients into delicious works of art
D. Sarah's journey to be a professional food artist

Recently, AI-generated art is worrying some artists, who wonder whether they'll be replaced by this technology. Meanwhile, others see AI creations as little more than high-tech copying. Many AI tools have become available to the general public. The most accessible ones only require inputting a few words to create original images, which has resulted in a wave of surreal memes. However, when a work of art made with AI controversially (有争议地) won an art prize in Colorado in September, many realised that the technology has more to offer than just memes.
A digital artist from China experiments with AI. While browsing his attractive creations, few might guess that the artist has been experimenting with AI for only half a year. “In May I started following some bloggers on a Chinese social media platform and I was really inspired by their creations, so I started learning,” says the artist. Based on an AI image generator, he creates visionary images that blend cyberpunk (赛博朋克) with Chinese culture and history. The artist's series Cyber Peking Opera attempts to answer the question, “When we enter the metaverse (元宇宙), what will traditional art come to ” and explores the relationship between tradition and technology while also processing culture by way of digitisation.
“The rise of AI technology is an irreversible (不可逆转的) trend,” adds the artist. “Its scale and spread will only increase when the physical world and virtual reality are blended.” While generating AI artwork often takes no more than a minute, the preparatory work is time-consuming. Artists need to familiarise themselves with different software, research source material, and put together strings of text to produce the desired results.
The artist is using his eye-catching creations to combat negative stereotypes (刻板印象) of AI-generated art. “Opinions are very polarised. Some are supportive of this technology, but many are resistant to change,” he says. “AI is very worthy of our imaginations, and my projects make use of this technology to make bold attempts at creation.” Through his work, the artist demonstrates that AI is not just a tool for replication but a medium for bold and innovative expression, offering new ways to reimagine and preserve cultural heritage in the digital age.
28. What can be inferred from the winning of an AI-made work
A. AI art has shown its true potential.
B. Traditional art forms still hold their advantages.
C. Artists are doubtful about the technology.
D. High-tech copying consists of simple memes.
29. How does the artist create his series
A. By relying on an AI tool and his ideas.
B. By combining different AI image generators.
C. By using his rich experience in traditional art.
D. By learning from digital artists online.
30. Why does producing AI artwork require much time of artists
A. Because they need to design enough original images.
B. Because they have to understand the metaverse's feature.
C. Because they have to spend ages improving the software.
D. Because they need to grasp software operation and process texts.
31. What is the artist's attitude towards AI technology
A. Cautious. B. Critical. C. Confident. D. Uncertain.
D
As a popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that's not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn't matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves — the positive and negative effects are just as lasting.
We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We're usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn't be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit.
This “self-talk” helps us motivate (激励) ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!”.
Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably respond in a similar manner. However, harsh and critical (批评的) language will most probably cause the clerk to be defensive.
Words possess power because of their lasting effect. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it loving Is it needed If what we want to say doesn't pass this test, then it's better left unsaid.
Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem (自尊) and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal The choice is ours.
32. What can we learn from Paragraph 1
A. Not sticks or stones but words will hurt us. B. We should live a positive life.
C. We should never say negative words. D. Words have a lasting effect on us.
33. Which word best describes the author's attitude to self-talk
A. Intolerant. B. Positive. C. Sceptical. D. Carefree.
34. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Remind ourselves. B. Praise ourselves.
C. Make ourselves relaxed. D. Entertain ourselves.
35. What view would the author probably hold
A. Encouraging words are sure to lead to kind offers.
B. Negative words may stimulate us to make more progress.
C. People tend to remember friendly words.
D. It is better to think twice before talking to others.

This way to dreamland
Daydreaming means people think about something pleasant, especially when this makes them forget what they should be doing. Daydreamers have a bad reputation for being unaware of what's happening around them. They can seem forgetful and clumsy. 36 They annoy us because they seem to be ignoring us and missing the important things.
But daydreamers are also responsible for some of the greatest ideas and achievements in human history. 37 Can you imagine what kind of world we would have without such ideas and inventions
So how can you come up with brilliant daydreams and avoid falling over tree roots or otherwise looking like a fool
First, understand that some opportunities for daydreaming are better than others. Feeling safe and relaxed will help you to slip into daydreams. 38 And if you want to improve your chances of having a creative idea while you're daydreaming, try to do it while you are involved in another task — preferably something simple, like taking a shower or walking, or even making meaningless drawings.
It's also important to know how to avoid daydreams for those times when you really need to concentrate. “Mindfulness”, being focused, is a tool that some people use to avoid falling asleep. 39________
Finally, you never know what wonderful idea might strike you while your mind has moved slowly away. 40___________
Always remember that your best ideas might come when your head is actually in the clouds.
A. They stare into space and wander by themselves.
B. Having interesting things to think about also helps.
C. Without wandering minds, relatively, we wouldn't have phones or watches.
D. At one time, daydreaming was thought to be a cause of some mental illnesses.
E. It involves slow, steady breathing for self-control that helps people stay calm and attentive.
F. Daydreams are often very simple and direct, quite unlike sleep dreams, which may be hard to understand.
G. Therefore, it's a good idea to keep a notebook or voice recorder nearby when you're in the daydream zone.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was fond of drawing from an early age. After winning a regional youth art competition, I was selected to attend an international art camp in China the following month. Together with students from different countries, I explored different forms of art and learnt about Chinese culture.
One afternoon, I visited a local museum. At the museum gift shop, I picked up an art book featuring famous Chinese paintings. One painting called Night-Shining White immediately caught my attention. I could feel the horse's power within its burning eyes, bared teeth and kicking hooves(蹄). The movement looked so natural and powerful that it seemed ready to jump out of the painting. Later, I learnt that the painting was created by Han Gan, a famous Chinese artist from the Tang Dynasty, who was well-known for his horse paintings.
Inspired by the masterpiece, I decided to paint a horse for the camp's final exhibition. I wanted my work to show the same strength and spirit that I had seen in Han Gan's painting.
However, things did not go as planned. No matter how hard I tried, my horse looked lifeless. The body seemed awkward, and the eyes showed no emotion. One sketch(草图)after another ended up in the bin. Feeling frustrated, I stayed in the back of the art room one evening, staring at another unfinished painting. Just then, my instructor, Ms Li, walked in. She looked carefully at my drawing and smiled.
“Han Gan didn't become a great painter by simply copying other paintings,” she said. “He spent years observing real horses. If you want to understand his art, you should first understand the animals themselves.” Then she handed me a sketchbook. “Why don't you visit the city equestrian(骑马的)club this weekend ”
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
With the sketchbook in my hand, I set out for the equestrian club to observe horses.

第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
With the sketchbook in my hand, I set out for the equestrian club to observe horses. Standing quietly beside the horses, I carefully watched their every move. I observed how they lowered their heads to eat grass, raised their heads alertly, and galloped freely across the field. With close attention, I recorded their vivid postures and lively eyes in my sketchbook. Gradually, I realised the vitality hidden in horses, which was exactly what my previous paintings lacked. Back at the camp, I started painting again, pouring all my observations and feelings into my work.
Paragraph 2:
Two weeks later, my painting was displayed at the camp's final exhibition. Unlike my previous sketches, the horse in my painting looked energetic and vivid, with bright eyes and powerful limbs. Many foreign students stopped to admire my work and praised it for its unique charm. Ms Li smiled and nodded at me. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: true art never comes from blind copying. Only by observing life carefully and feeling things with our hearts can we create fine works of art.

Text 10
W: One day, Murphy went to a doctor to talk about his wife. He said to the doctor, "Doctor, I think my wife is deaf because she never hears me the first time and I always have to say things again and again." "Well," the doctor answered, "go home and stand about fifteen feet from her and say something to her. If she doesn't answer, move about five feet closer and say it again. Keep doing this so that we'll get an idea about how serious her deafness is."
Sure enough, Murphy went home and did exactly as the doctor told him. He stood about fifteen feet from his wife in the kitchen as she was cutting some vegetables and said, "Betty, what's for dinner " He heard no answer. He moved about five feet closer and asked again. No answer. He moved five feet closer. Still no answer. He got fed up and moved right behind her, about an inch away, and asked again, "Betty, what's for dinner " Betty said, "That's the fourth time you asked me. They are meatballs."
