Unit 4 Section B Reading Plus
1. Just as there are sports competitions using our bodies, there are also sports competitions using our minds...
结构:Just as + 分句 A, there are also + 分句 B
eg: Just as we need to exercise our bodies every day, there are also ways to train our brain daily.
using our bodies /using our minds
Just as there are class tasks improving our spoken English, there are also exercises developing our reading ability.
2.The “brain athletes” had to remember as many names and faces as they could or as many words as possible in 15 minutes.
as many + 可数名词复数 + as possible
as many words as possible
eg:You need to practise memory skills as often as possible.
= You need to practise memory skills as often as you can.
For instance, competitors had to write down as many English words as they could or note down as many daily sentences as possible in ten minutes.
3..While you might think that these competitors were all born with a strong memory, this is often not true.
eg: While you think memorizing words is hard, this is often not true with good skills.
be born with 天生具有……;与生俱来
搭配:be born with good eyesight /talent/memory
While you might think that good learners are all born with a good memory, this is often not true.
4.Later, if you want to remember the words, all you need to do is remember the picture.
All you need to do is (to) do sth.
eg: All you need to do is practise memory skills every day.
5.While most people are terrible at remembering lists, they are quite good at remembering where things are.
1)固定搭配:be terrible at (doing) sth. 反义词组:be good at (doing) sth.
2)宾语从句:remembering where things are
While she is terrible at memorizing numbers, she is quite good at remembering where things are placed.
You can probably picture in your mind where everything in your bedroom is.
搭配:picture sth. in your mind 在脑海中想象某物
2)宾语从句 where everything in your bedroom is
where 引导宾语从句,作 picture 的宾语,从句严格使用陈述语序(主语 everything 在前,谓语 is 在后,不能写成 where is everything)。
We can picture in our minds where every big tree in the park grows.
7.Later, if you want to remember the words, all you need to do is to remember the picture.
1)if 引导条件状语从句 if you want to remember the words
All you need to do is (to) do sth.
All you need to do 是主语从句,all 为先行词,省略关系代词 that;
主句谓语动词是 be 动词时,后面的不定式符号 to 可以省略,即 All you need to do is remember the picture;
Later, if you want to learn memory techniques well, all you need to do is to keep practicing every day.

Have you ever studied for hours, only to forget everything after the exam This is a common problem for many students. It often happens when we only learn without truly understanding it. 1 It’s called the Feynman Learning Technique (方法), created by a famous scientist, Richard Feynman. People called him the “Great Explainer” because he had an amazing ability to explain difficult topics, like quantum physics (量子物理), in a simple way.
2 The main idea is simple. First, choose any topic you want to learn and write down everything you know about it on a piece of paper. Next, pretend you are teaching it to a classmate who doesn’t know it. 3 While explaining, you might find yourself getting stuck. This is a good sign! It shows you exactly which parts you don’t understand well enough. When that happens, you should go back to your books to review and learn more.
Another powerful part of this technique is to use comparison. For example, to explain how our brain stores memories, you might compare it to a library that organizes books. 4
5 It is a powerful tool that helps you test your own understanding and find the gaps in your knowledge. By trying to teach others, you teach yourself best. This technique helps make knowledge truly yours, and it will stay with you long after the exam is over.
A. So, how does it work
B. It asks learners to study harder.
C. Luckily, there is a better way.
D. This makes difficult ideas much easier to connect with and remember.
E. In short, the Feynman Learning Technique is more than just a study trick.
F. This simple act forces you to use easy language and clear examples.

Grandmother’s Lost Memories
Rick’s grandma is over seventy years old. These days, her memory becomes much worse. Last weekend, Rick visited her home and found some strange changes. She kept calling Rick Johnny, which is Rick’s father’s name. When Rick wanted to eat cookies, she told him those snacks were saved for her grandson, not realizing Rick was exactly that grandson.
Rick felt really sad and worried about her condition. He talked with his classmate Chen Jie, whose grandpa also has memory problems. Chen told Rick that old people’s memory usually falls little by little as they grow older. His grandpa once forgot the way to their park, so Chen takes him there every weekend.
Chen shared a useful idea with Rick: do not only focus on the things the old lady forgets. We should keep in mind all the warm happy memories she still holds. Rick’s grandma still remembers he loves cookies deeply, and this warm memory is very valuable.
The two boys discussed what they could do for the elderly with poor memory. They decided to look back on happy family moments together, such as picnics and old opera shows. They planned to take many new photos and make a family photo album for Rick’s grandma. Looking at pictures can help her recall more warm stories from the past.
Rick finally understood sadness cannot solve the problem. Instead of feeling upset, he should stay with his grandma and create more new sweet memories with her.
1.Who is Johnny according to the text
A.Rick’s grandfather. B.Rick’s father.
C.Chen Jie’s grandpa. D.Rick’s little brother.
2.What trouble does Chen Jie’s grandpa have
A.He forgets the way to the park.
B.He cannot remember any food.
C.He loses his wallet every day.
D.He cannot speak complete sentences.
3.What suggestion did Chen give to Rick
A.Send his grandma to hospital right away.
B.Pay more attention to the happy memories she still has.
C.Stop visiting his grandma to avoid sadness.
D.Teach his grandma new memory skills every day.
4.What plan did the two boys make for Rick’s grandma

My Ways to Learn Better
Hello everyone, I’m Li Hua. Today I want to share three study methods that have really helped me.
First, I make a weekly study plan. Every Sunday evening, I write down what subjects to study each day. I put the hardest subject, like maths or physics, in the morning because I am more focused then. I also plan short breaks — 10 minutes after 40 minutes of study.
Second, I use active recall. After reading a page of a textbook, I close the book and try to say the main ideas aloud. This helps me find out what I really remember and what I need to review again. It works much better than just re-reading.
Third, I teach what I learn to others. Sometimes I explain a history event or a science rule to my little brother or a classmate. When I teach, I find out if I truly understand it. If I get stuck, I go back to the book.
These methods take time, but they make learning more effective. You don’t need to be a genius to get good grades — just good habits. Try one of them this week and see the difference!
