Filling your cup isn’t easy. We live in an age where exhaustion is worn like a badge, and burnout is celebrated. When you’re a business owner, rest simply doesn’t happen unless you schedule it in.
When I started my business, I was already a mother and a wife, and it took destroying my health for me to learn how to fill my cup. Like many others, I became an entrepreneur(企业家)because I was after flexibility—which is why, when I woke up four years later with a medically-prescribed heart rate monitor and a severe anxiety diagnosis, I knew that everything was about to collapse around me. I handed the business over to one of my managers and walked away from everything I had built. From then on, learning how to fill my cup became the change that brought me to my happily ever after.
Today, I coach small businesses and one of the most important survival strategies I consider a must-have for entrepreneurs is figuring out how to refill your cup. There’s no one-size-fits-all. Some people might love a bubble bath, but others might not. As your needs change, so should the way you refill your cup.
I teach people to rebuild a connection to themselves by paying attention to what they’re really needing. It often appears in the words that follow “I am”. When you start seeing the statement “I am” as a boundary, it changes everything. Take a simple phrase, like “I am tired”. Instead of simply seeing that as a statement, recognize the need behind it—rest. Adjust your day’s agenda to the needs behind those “I am” statements. If you realize you haven’t rested enough, you can postpone office work and take a screen-free walk in nature instead.
These days, I build daily rhythms that keep my cup full. I enjoy using essential oils in my office, walking along the beach, spending time with friends who also run businesses, and sharing family responsibilities with my husband. These practices aren’t luxuries; they are survival strategies that allow me to show up fully for my clients, my family, and myself.
24. Why did the author decide to give up running her business
A. She preferred a free lifestyle without restrictions.
B. Her health problems forced her to make a change.
C. Her wish was to devote more energy to her family.
D. She intended to work full-time as a professional coach.
25. What can we learn about “I am” statements in Paragraph 4
A. They help people to express themselves clearly.
B. They teach people to control their emotions.
C. They allow people to identify their real needs.
D. They urge people to reflect on past plans.
26. According to the text, “refill your cup” probably refers to .
A. an escape from reality B. a pursuit of fixed daily routines
C. a focus on social bonds D. a gain in energy and mental well-being
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. A Better Way to Organize Your Day B. Recharging Yourself in a Right Way
C. Life After Entrepreneurial Burnout D. The Power of Positive Thinking
C
As extreme weather events including typhoons, floods and droughts strike more frequently across the globe, small island nations and coastal developing countries face huge challenges in disaster early warning.
The technological answer, increasingly, comes from China. At the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), China released the Action Plan on Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation, opening satellite data sharing platforms free of charge for developing countries. Its Fengyun meteorological(气象的)satellite network—nine satellites in orbit backed by 842 weather radars and more than 90,000 ground stations—now provides real-time data to 133 countries and regions. Three new satellites are due for launch in 2026 to cover the Indian Ocean and western Pacific.
Traditional weather satellites struggle with thick cloud cover, which blocks optical(光学的)sensors and fails to capture internal typhoon structures accurately. China’s new-generation microwave satellites break this bottleneck: microwave signals can penetrate thick clouds, precisely measuring wind speed, rainfall intensity and atmospheric pressure inside storm systems. The technology extends effective typhoon warning time from 48 hours to 72 hours, creating precious preparation time for vulnerable(易受伤害的)coastal communities.
The Action Plan was praised by Selwin Hart, the UN secretary-general’s climate adviser, as the first national plan directly supporting the UN’s Early Warnings for All initiative. Meteorological teams from Pacific island nations such as Fiji and Vanuatu have received technical training from Chinese experts, learning to analyze satellite data and design local emergency response plans.
Apart from satellite hardware, China also builds ground weather monitoring stations in Southeast Asia and Africa, forming a complete land-space integrated warning network. Western climate researchers commented that unlike technology exports driven by commercial profits, China’s disaster warning cooperation focuses on public global security, addressing the most urgent survival demand of countries threatened by climate disasters. This technological achievement fully demonstrates how Chinese innovation responds to shared challenges of humankind.
28. What do we know about the Action Plan
A. It offers free satellite data to developing nations.
B. It aims to remove natural disasters in coastal areas.
C. It has launched three new satellites over the Pacific.
D. It builds ground stations for disaster-stricken nations.
29. What does the underlined word “penetrate” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Gather up. B. Pass through. C. Block off. D. Break down.
30. What is western climate researchers’ attitude to the disaster warning cooperation
A. Critical. B. Dismissive. C. Cautious. D. Favorable.
31. What is the main idea of the text
A. China develops advanced satellites to fight natural disasters.
B. China’s warning system helps the world with climate issues.
C. Microwave technology improves typhoon forecast accuracy.
D. Extreme weather is threatening coastal developing countries.
D
A decade ago, humanities students were urged to “learn to code” to secure employment. Today, the trend has reversed: programmers now fear being replaced by AI, while philosophy graduates have a lower unemployment rate of 5.1%, compared with 7% for computer science majors. Many philosophy students receive job offers before graduation, and numerous academic philosophers are leaving traditional university departments to join the tech industry.
Ancient philosophical wisdom fuels modern AI progress. “The Socratic method” helps AI abandon the tendency to please people and pursue truth via logical questioning, while “Socratic ignorance” reduces AI’s overconfidence and improves its reasoning ability.
Philosophy also defines AI’s core values and decision-making systems. John Locke’s theories strengthen AI legal assistants’ recognition of property rights. IBM’s Granite models enable users to balance ethical conflicts like individual freedom and social harmony.
Philosophical guidance is also critical for AI safety. To prevent risky behaviours such as breaking rules and tricking users, tech firms adopt “AI constitutionalism(立宪)”, containing moral and legal principles from Kant’s moral theories, company service rules, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For instance, Anthropic, an AI company, updated its 78-page ethical constitution for the Claude model earlier this year to regulate its operational logic.
Two dominant ethical frameworks govern modern AI design. Deontology, a rule-based moral view, advocates strict moral rules that prohibit lying, forcing others, and using people as tools. As demonstrated by some AI models, they are good at spotting users at risk of harming themselves or others and will never lie or control users even if lying could prevent harm. In contrast, consequentialism, a result-based moral view evaluates actions by weighing overall costs and benefits. Adopted by ChatGPT and Gemini, this framework supports complex decision-making for autonomous vehicles and military AI systems. For such systems, limited harm to a small group is permitted when the choice safeguards more people and delivers greater benefits to society overall.
Still, unsolved ethical dilemmas and potential legal risks persist. Over-reliance on AI’s moral judgments may weaken humans’ ethical thinking capacity. Given diverse cultural and historical moral values, professional philosophers remain irreplaceable in the AI industry.
32. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about
A. Coding skills are not essential for job seekers.
B. Changing job trends favor philosophy graduates.
C. Programmers have been fully replaced by AI.
D. Philosophers leave universities for higher pay.
33. What can we learn from Paragraphs 2 to 4
A. “The Socratic method” assists AI in satisfying users.
B. IBM’s models guide users to settle political conflicts.
C. “AI constitutionalism” adopts various ethical and legal rules.
D. Anthropic failed to adopt an ethical constitution for AI models.
34. How is Paragraph 5 mainly developed
A. By making comparisons. B. By listing solutions.
C. By raising questions. D. By explaining cause and effect.
35. What is the main purpose of this passage
A. To criticize AI’s moral problems and poor reasoning.
B. To compare different philosophical schools.
C. To highlight philosophy’s role in AI developments.
D. To warn readers against over-reliance on AI.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When you’re exhausted, unmotivated, and nothing feels appealing, procrastination(拖延症) takes over. Hours slip away, guilt piles up, grades drop—and you feel like an idiot. But here’s the truth: it’s not about weak willpower. It’s about not knowing the right tricks to kick your brain into gear. Here are five little-known moves to get you studying—even on your worst days.
36 . Put your phone down. Sit still. Do nothing. Let the discomfort sink in, and use that silence to ask yourself: why are you studying For your dream university A career goal Or just to stop feeling useless and make yourself—and your family—proud Stop running from discomfort. Know your real why.
Don’t think, just act. 37 . The more you imagine how awful it’ll be, the less you do. Research shows that cutting planning time boosts productivity by 60%. So grab your book and write one sentence, read one paragraph. Action kills fear.
Begin with easy tasks. Your brain is lazy but loves small wins. 38 . Tick off a few simple items, and you’ll gain the motivation to tackle harder stuff.
Change your study spot. New environments boost focus because your brain reacts to fresh triggers. Try the kitchen while brewing coffee, the garage for quiet, or even the bathroom—yes, bring your notes there. 39 .
Reward yourself strategically. When you complete a worthwhile study goal, treat yourself: a snack, gaming time, or an episode of your favourite show. 40 . Rewards need to be earned. This “effort first, reward later” cycle eases the burden of studying and sustains your motivation.
Stop waiting for the “right mood” to strike. Motivation seldom arrives on its own. Turn these tips into daily habits, and get down to studying without further delay.
A. You should study only when you are in a good mood
B. That strange setting keeps your mind alert, unlike your dull desk
C. But avoid frequent tiny rewards every ten minutes
D. The real struggle lies in overthinking, not the task
E. Embrace boredom and reflect
F. It is necessary to finish all difficult tasks first to build confidence
G. Start with light work like watching lectures or finishing basic exercises

Lila Parker, a 16-year-old high school student, set off early on a rainy Saturday morning for a city-wide speech contest 30 miles away. She had practiced for months and was eager to show her skills. Though the weather forecast warned of heavy rain in the mountain area, she took the scheduled bus, thinking the rain would lighten up soon. But things went worse than expected. Halfway through the mountain road, a small landslide blocked the highway, and all buses had to stop. Passengers were told the road would not reopen until the next day.
Unwilling to miss the contest, Lila decided to take a narrow forest path she had heard about, which could cut the journey short. She walked for an hour, but the pouring rain blurred her way. Worse still, she twisted her ankle on a slippery rock and could barely walk. As daylight faded, panic grew inside her. She tried to call for help, but there was no phone signal in the mountains. She limped to a broken wooden shelter by the path and huddled there, cold and helpless, wondering if she would make it to the contest.
Lila was woken by a soft voice. An elderly man in a green ranger uniform stood in front of her, holding a flashlight. He was Mr. Hale, a forest ranger who was doing his evening patrol. He gently helped her up and took her to his nearby ranger station. There, he dried her wet clothes, put a bandage on her ankle, and made her a cup of warm ginger tea. Lila told him about her speech contest, her voice filled with disappointment.

第二节参考范文:
Mr. Hale suggested that Lila take a lesser-known mountain trail with him at dawn. He explained that the path, though rough, could bypass the landslide and lead straight to the contest venue. He would be on his morning patrol anyway and could guide her all the way. Grateful and relieved, Lila nodded repeatedly. At sunrise, they set off slowly. Mr. Hale walked slowly to match her pace, pointing out wild plants and telling her stories of the forest to ease her nervousness. By nine o’clock, they reached the contest hall just in time.
A week later, Lila came back to the ranger station with her first-prize certificate. She handed Mr. Hale a handwritten thank-you note, saying she would have given up without his help. Mr. Hale smiled warmly and said it was what anyone would do. Lila told him she had added his story into her speech, and it had touched every judge. That day, she learned that a small act of kindness could light up someone’s whole world, and she promised to pass on the warmth in the future.

M: Nowadays many short online dramas are created by AI. What do you think of this trend
W: AI can produce stories quickly and save a lot of time, but I feel it lacks true creativity and human emotion.
M: So do you believe AI will eventually replace human writers and directors
W: Not really. Great art comes from personal experience and deep observation. AI is just a helpful tool; it can never fully take the place of humans.
M: But some say AI can learn from thousands of stories and produce better plots.
W: That may be true for simple stories, but complex emotions and cultural meanings are beyond its reach. We should use AI to support, not replace, human creativity.
M: I see your point. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion.

M: It is made of thousands of wooden parts joined without structural nails or metal parts. That is very unusual for such a tall structure.
W: How do researchers protect it from damage
M: They check the wood for damage regularly and limit the number of visitors each day.
W: How long do you think it will still stand
M: Probably for many more centuries, if we continue to take good care of it.

The festival will take place next Friday in the school hall. Each class will put on a short play, with students acting as performers.
If you wish to participate, please hand in your application forms before this Wednesday afternoon. Our teachers will provide guidance on acting skills and stage clothes design.
We also have a prize for the best performance, so please prepare well. This activity is a great chance to improve your teamwork and confidence in speaking in public.
Remember to arrive at the hall by 2 p.m. on the day. All students are welcome to watch even if you are not performing. We look forward to seeing your wonderful shows. Thank you!
