More than 20 years ago, if someone had told Chao Ziyi and Chao Ziwei — two brothers from Henan, who earned their living by making large bowls — that one day they would become artists, they would have laughed it off.
But life often takes unexpected turns. Today, the brothers’ ceramic(陶瓷) works are exhibited both in China and abroad. Although the brothers have never studied art in a formal school, they have created their own unique ceramic style. They also lecture at Jingdezhen Ceramic University in Jiangxi. An exhibition now underway at the university’s art museum tells the story of their artistic path, showing how these two craftsmen entered the world of ceramic art with help from professional artists and teachers.
The exhibition features more than 1,500 works, with a great variety of subjects — books, shoes, tractors, old gatehouses, and animals. Ceramics, deeply connected to Chinese tradition, become a way for them to express personal memories and share social experiences in a modern way.
The brothers still do every step of the ceramic-making process themselves, just as they did in their early years in the family trade. Over time, they have continued to challenge themselves, exploring new sizes and structures. By copying the textured look of bronze and rusted iron, they give their works a fresh, contemporary feel.
Professor Lyu Pinchang, an artist who once guided them at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, says the brothers have moved from strict control of technique to embracing uncertainty, which helped them understand ceramics more deeply. He adds that they have always stayed true to their work — whether making bowls in the past or creating art now — and their devotion sets a great example for young students.
Rising from humble beginnings as bowl makers, the Chao brothers have brought a renewed spirit of craftsmanship into contemporary ceramic art.
24. What was the Chao brothers’ life like over 20 years ago
A. Ordinary. B. Adventurous. C. Colorful. D. Ambitious.
25. What do we know about the exhibition on show
A. It reflects their skills of modern art. B. It covers a wide range of subjects.
C. It tells their memories of hard life. D. It shows their preference of nature.
26. What does Professor Lyu Pinchang think of the two brothers
A. Innovative and devoted. B. Curious and productive. C. Determined and brave.
D. Kind-hearted and strict.
27. What can we learn from the two brothers’ story
A. Life is a struggle, not a race. B. Love breaks down barriers.
C. Every trade has its master. D. Education is the key to success.

The world is full of the sounds of animals communicating with each other: birds singing, crickets chirping, whales singing songs in the deep. Until now animal “language” has been a mystery to humanity. But now, all that may change. As AI technology and machine learning develop into new fields and areas, scientists are using it to interpret animal language.
More than 50 years ago researchers recorded the beautiful songs of humpback whales (座头鲸) and shared them with the world, which opened up a whole new field of study: whale communication. As the technology advanced, so did the field.
Scientific American reports that there is the Earth Species Project: a team of AI scientists, biologists, and conservationists who are building a machine-learning model that uses data from a wide range of animals to figure out what their actions and sounds mean. In addition, there are projects that focus on only one particular species such as the Project Cetacean Translation Initiative (CETI) which hopes to translate the language of sperm whales using AI.
CETI hopes that if humans can understand what’s going on inside whales’ minds—and, eventually, the minds of other animals—it might inspire greater conservation measures. The group has good reason to believe it could. In the 1960s, when researchers discovered that humpback whales sing to each other, for instance, their work led to the wildly successful Save the Whales campaign. Seriously threatened for decades, humpback and gray whale populations started to recover.
Marine biologists and computer scientists worked together to analyze the most comprehensive database of whale sounds. They did a study to see if they could design a tailored machine learning program capable of spotting familiar sequences within these interactions, much as humans have recognizable conversational patterns. The result was a new kind of processing model able to anticipate what some whales might communicate next.
This kind of work isn’t limited to whales. Across the natural world, scientists are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for help to understand the lives of animals.
28. How does the author present the issue of animal language
A. By quoting an expert. B. By giving examples.
C. By defining a concept. D. By providing statistics.
29. What does the author try to explain by mentioning the discovery in the 1960s
A. Whale populations continue to grow. B. The government supports whale study.
C. Research contributes to decision-making. D. Scientific study helps protective measures.
30. What is one of the researchers’ findings about whale communication
A. Its content can be predicted. B. It follows traditional patterns.
C. Its frequency can be spotted. D. It has been copied by humans.
31. What is the best title of the text
A. The AI Tools in Biological Research B. The Mystery of Whale Communication
C. Using AI to Interpret Animal Language D. The Ways of Translating Animal Language
D
Novelists have different ways of describing laughter. Characters can wear a big smile, be all smiles, crack a smile, grin from ear to ear, break into a smile and so on. The richness of language may suggest that laughter has limitless diversity (多样性). However, it may be wrong.
A new study led by Dr. Roza Kamiloglu, provides evidence that there are just two main types of laughter: one generated when people find something funny and one that can be caused only through the physical act of tickling (挠痒痒).
Dr. Kamiloglu instructed assistants to collect 887 videos that were then classified, ranging from tickle attacks to laughing for other factors. About 70% of these videos were used to train a machine-learning algorithm (算法) to classify laughter by reasons. The algorithm was then asked to classify the remaining 30% and correctly identified laughter produced by tickling 62.5% of the time. All other forms of laughter, whether they came from viewing stand-up comedy or practical jokes, were difficult to tell apart. This suggested there was something unique about the tickling laughter. When Dr. Kamiloglu ran the experiment again, asking human observers to classify the laughter, a similar result showed: Human observers correctly identified tickling laughter 61.2% of the time.
The findings made scientists reflect on the roots of laughter. After all, humans are not the only animals that can laugh and tickle. This points to the fact that laughter from tickling developed over 10 million years ago. This early sort of laughter probably developed to help primates(灵长目动物)build friendly relations. As for other forms of laughter, they probably developed millions of years after tickling, when human brain became complex enough to understand deeper meanings.
32. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 refer to
A. The richness of human language. B. The approach to describing laughter.
C. The idea of countless kinds of laughter. D. The complexity of classifying laughter.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The process of the research. B. The contents of the videos.
C. The methods of generating laughter. D. The working principle of the algorithm.
34. What can we learn from the research findings
A. All the forms of laughter are difficult to tell apart.
B. Tickling laughter developed much later than others.
C. Primates use tickling to build pleasant relationships.
D. Humans’ laughter is far more complex than primates’.
35. What’s the text mainly about
A. Where laughter comes from and how it develops
B. How primates make friends with each other
C. How writers use words to show happiness
D. Two kinds of laughing ways for humans

Are you tired of pulling all-nighter study sessions for tests Do you end up with low grades despite your best efforts You may benefit from learning how to study. The key is to understand that learning is not measured by the amount of time you spend, but by what additional knowledge you’ve gained from those experiences. 36
Here are some study strategies.
Use daytime hours to study.
Prioritize academics when you are more energetic and have access to resources. In college, this might include tutors, professor office hours and labs. 37 Then reward yourself during the evenings with social and personal time.
Review material close to when it was first presented.
The longer you wait before consolidating(巩固)the material, the more difficult it will be to connect to upcoming concepts. So don’t wait until the mid-term or final exam to study. Revisiting your notes with the lecture still fresh in your mind helps you both consolidate and clarify the information. 38
39
Turn your phone off or move it out of sight. When the brain is constantly switching between tasks — from studying to an instant message and back again — it is harder to learn. What you think are only momentary interruptions result in huge losses in overall productivity. There are even apps that can help put you in control. Examples include Forest, AppBlock and Cold Turkey.
Get proper sleep, exercise and nutrition.
40 Your body needs proper care to allow you to learn. This is especially true for sleep. Lack of quality sleep can cause a lot of physical and mental damage in just a couple of days. Sleep not only supplies your energy, but is crucial in consolidating information.
A. Ask for help.
B. Control electronics.
C. Think quality — not quantity.
D. Some prefer using online study tools.

Everyone has dreams, but not everyone can make them come true. The difference lies in whether you are willing 56 (keep) going when times are hard. When we face difficulties, we should not be afraid. 61 matters is not how many times we fall, but how many times we stand up. If we keep working hard and never lose heart, we 62 (achieve) our goals sooner or later.

Kathy’s family vacation to the beach was usually the highlight of her summer. This year, however, her parents announced a new rule: no cell phones for the entire week.
“But my friends will be expecting updates about the trip,” Kathy complained. Kathy’s mom gave her a serious look. Unwillingly, Kathy handed her cell phone over and her mom locked it away.
The drive to the beach house took most of the day. As they turned off the highway onto country roads, the clouds darkened. Rain started to pour. “Even more beautiful in the rain,” her mother said.
“What do you think, Kathy ” Kathy glared at her mom. “Beautiful,” she muttered.
That night after dinner, Kathy wandered into the kitchen, where her father was washing dishes. She gave her father a loving look and said in her sweetest voice, “Couldn’t I have my cell phone back, just for one second Just so I can tell everyone what an amazing time I’m having ”
“Can’t,” he said. “It’s not here. Remember ”
Kathy was very annoyed. Having nothing better to do, she examined the dusty bookcase in the living room. The books looked as dull as the weather. On the top shelf, however, she spotted a puzzle. She took it, emptied the pieces on the table, and began to sort them.
After what seemed like a few minutes, she looked up. It was past ten o’clock. She had been working for almost two hours! She yawned. The puzzle was not half done, but she was exhausted. So, she went to bed.
When Kathy awoke the next morning, she jumped out of bed and drew the curtains. A blazing sun was rising over the blue ocean. The sky was cloudless. The scene reminded Kathy of a photo that her friend Betty had recently sent her.
This view was even better. It would leave everyone speechless. Kathy dashed to her bedside table and reached for her cell phone. But there was nothing there. She sighed. Still, she wandered in front of the window, admiring the sunrise.

写作范文
第一节
On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I, together with our school’s voluntary association, paid a visit to the Disability Care Center, where we gained first-hand experience of the life of those who are visually impaired.
We were instructed to blindfold ourselves and spot the flags scattered across the floor. Initially, everything went smoothly. But later, the difficulty level increased as objects were placed randomly. We failed to locate the objects, with some even tripping.
The activity gave me a deeper understanding of the disabled community, encouraging me to offer them a helping hand whenever possible.
第二节
After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. There on the beach, fishermen had already carried their harvests back and were sorting them out. The sunshine on the beach, on the seagulls and on Kathy amazed her. Everything was natural and soothing. The scene and warmth suddenly reminded Kathy of the undone puzzle, which was supposed to be a breathtaking picture of the seaside. With some seashells in hand, she headed back and settled down to the work on the puzzle. After what seemed like several hours, she finally completed it.
Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn’t thought of her cell phone for hours. She looked out of the window. The sun was blazing. Maybe it was time to plan for the following week. She now knew that she would not be short of things to do. She looked at the books and found them shining with the sunlight through the window! What an amazing change! She smiled. With a cell phone, we can do a lot. But without a cell phone, a lot more things are waiting to be explored.

Text 10
M: Welcome to Car Wonders. In this episode, we are talking about a special vehicle that can both drive on land and float on water. That is the Amphicar 770, which was launched at the 1961 New York Auto Show. It was made in West Germany and marketed from 1961 to 1968, with production stopping in 1965. The Amphicar 770 can reach speeds of 70 miles per hour on land. And when it goes into the water, it achieves speeds of 7 knots — slow but steady. In June 1965, two Amphicars successfully crossed the Yukon River in Alaska. In August 1967, four Amphicars participated in the Yukon River Flotilla project. Amphicars also appeared in a number of films, including Rotten to the Core and The President’s Analyst. Next up, we’re checking out another classic car — the 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood, often called “a sofa on wheels.”
